Box truck rollover on the freeway - box comes off the frame! How the heck this box came off the frame, I have no clue. Doesn't seem like it impacted anything with great force and the load ended up being roughly 12,000lbs or so. Either way, it made for a fun and tricky job. As you can see in the video, the box came off almost all the straps, with the only solution to cut the remaining straps and separate them. From here, it turns into two recoveries. One for the cab and chassis, and one for the box.
The cab and chassis was the easy part and obviously had to be done first. Once that was done, it was towed away with our medium duty Vulcan wrecker. Next was the box - this was not easy. Unlike a container that we man handle day in and day out, there are no lift points on this. They are not designed to be picked up from the top and are very fragile, especially with a load. Dave had the idea to rig this one, and once executed it came over very nice.
After we got it upright, we lifted it high enough to have our tandem axle transporter flatbed backup underneath, then we set it "offset" so the load stays on the center of the bed. Throw some straps, and off we go! Also don't forget to grab the best synthetic rigging protection out right now, Bailey's Urethane Sleeves: baileystowinginc.com/Baileys-...

That job certainly was more complex than it initially looked! Shows how important it is to assess the risks, and evaluate tensions and stresses before you start doing anything! 👍

These guys went from surgeons cutting piece by piece to opening a frame straightening shop in the middle of the street to a salvage crew all in the time it took me to enjoy a beer and watch this video. I hope they're all getting paid very well. That's one hell of a skill set and a crew of men that bring it. Kudos. 🍻

I've ran a box truck before UHAUL and bigger. I've pulled flatbed as well. I HATE U BOLTS. But it appears that the box broke off the frame that the U bolts tied to. So it would be 😎 if the box floor was built like a flatbed trailer. Then secured to the truck frame like a 5th wheel is. I worked for a company. They had a brand new 53' van trailer. Loaded with 45000 lbs. Spotter truck went to put it in the door. Axles to the rear. Twisted the suspension and boggie frame off the trailer. The slider rail was only welded to the frame on 3 x members. Trailer still had temp plates.

Looks like they needed some cribbing within the trailer to fix the pallets in place. You can see that friction didn’t do the job. PS - thanks for an interesting video

Check out Diablo recip saw blades too. My local pullapart does hundreds of cars and gets many cuts per blade. I can take the nose off a wrecked Silverado including cutting the frame rails to harvest LS engines using one blade and it will still have a good bit of life remaining. Another tip is all that spraying WD or oil on recip blades does is cool them off so I switched to soapy water for no slime and easy clean up. The less petroleum I wear the better.

I dunno who built that truck, but if I were the owner I'd want my money back! That's a pretty epic structure failure. Also, I wanna know what the heck was on ONE pallet that flipped it. Solid diesel engine blocks? Had to have been DENSE!

Why not take the pallet jacket inside the Box and shift the load to the center of the Box and strap it down?
@PepesTowingService
@PepesTowingService Год назад
You would have to pull them all out first to even access the ones in the back. How do you plan on doing that when the box is literally off the frame, there’s no loading dock and you’re blocking a freeway off-ramp? That’s an absolutely horrible idea.
@wesman7837
@wesman7837 Год назад
get inside the box, and tip the pallets over in the middle of it so your weight distribution isn't all screwed up! or just lift the heavy side until some of the weight shifts back to the passenger side! you guys act like you have never dealt with a box truck with a load on it before.
@PepesTowingService
@PepesTowingService Год назад
I love when dumb people comment all hot. First of all, I’m not sure if you are aware but just because my truck has Hulk on it, doesn’t mean I have his real life strength. 4,000lb+ pallets each just being pushed over? Lmfao good one. And if you saw the video you’d see CLEARLY the integrity is messed up. It’s not a container I can flip any which way. It was a risk to even upright let alone risk counter leaning. Then what happens if the lift point breaks or it tears? How is just setting it two feet offset not the fastest and easiest and safest way for this local transport? But ya, please tell me how to do my job more lol

i was curious of that too, but not sure if just strapping to the frame of the original truck would work considering the load might break thru the side and make even more of a mess... that way it only needed 1 truck to haul to the offload spot, but i guess they know more since they were there to see the actual damage..... keyboard warriors can only know so much
