Defending yourself in a boxing match is essential to your success. If you want to win your match or at least come out of the ring with little to no damage you need to learn how to block punches. Even if your head movement isn't the best, your ability to stop a punch with your hands will get you far.
When blocking punches you have a several options. You can catch, perry, cover, elbow or forearm block. knowing when to use these basic defensive blocks will save your face and also create counter punching opportunities!

Thank you for the video and say thank you to your coach for helping as well. Good content , exactly what I was looking for, especially when you went over forearm blocking. I've always learned that way of blocking from my dad, but in my boxing class they only tell me to cover up, something that's been taking some time getting used to. This cleared it up for me Thank you

This is what I love about boxing, simple and effective. Just a matter of getting that practice in to make it second nature. Cool vid thanks!

I like this technique but some guys hit hard as hell with cross punches and i do not like absorbing too many of those if thats the case. Good video simple yet detailed.

Try avoiding the hit. But i dunno
@neutrino78x
@neutrino78x Год назад
this isn't really absorbing it. Your forearm is preventing it from hitting the sensitive places in your torso and head. We do pretty much the same thing in real martial arts (ITF Taekwondo in my case). Especially at 3:51, we call that a low block in Taekwondo.

Those forearms blocks look like the blocks used in karate. My guess is that's what karate blocks were before karate was reformed into the unusable mess that it is today. Anyway, amazing video guys, extremely informative.

Unusable? 😂 ffs .. ur talking bout 'karate ' and ppl breaking wood snd shit...thats bs.. karate aint a joke bro especially when implementing that knowledge with muay tai nd mma
@kenkongermany7860
@kenkongermany7860 Год назад
Not quite. Originally in Karate you followed the arm back in after the first contact. So the forearm contact with NO follow through was just a timing drill for beginners. You move the arm with circling blocks, ( Cause catching punches only works on the RETRACTION - if it does) At the least you have to deal only with one "unfelt" hand on the other-side for a split second. It's part of kakie in okinawan styles. But you can see parts of it in kyokushin or MMA ( - the high starting downward circle mostly.).

One thing I would suggest, is that you should get a better microphone. I feel like it automatically makes your video seem more high quality to the average viewer even tho the content is the same . Only saying all this Cuz I think your videos have potential

Maybe this is a weird question, but I’m a beginner so I don’t really know: do I keep my fists clenched all the time or do I try to keep an open hand and just close them when I punch? Because whenever I try to parry with a closed fist, my fingers tend to hurt
@MM-co3gl
@MM-co3gl 6 лет назад
Chris S try to close your fingers a little more without putting too much presure on your finger tips I had the same problem when they hurt Also, I am not a coach, by experience I use to close my fists so my hand does not get smashed by big punches and my arm muscles are already tucked and aren't going to move around as the punches come
