CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Vlad the Impaler (Gary Oldman) returns from battle to find Elisabeth (Winona Ryder) dead. He renounces God's church and accepts the powers of darkness.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel, this film from Francis Ford Coppola and screenwriter James Victor Hart offers a full-blooded portrait of the immortal Transylvanian vampire. The major departure from Stoker is one of motivation as Count Dracula (Gary Oldman) is motivated more by romance than by bloodlust. He punctures the necks as a means of avenging the death of his wife in the 15th century, and when he comes to London, it is specifically to meet heroine Mina Harker (Winona Ryder), the living image of his late wife (Ryder plays a dual role, as do several of her costars). Anthony Hopkins is obsessed vampire hunter Van Helsing, while Keanu Reeves takes on the role of Jonathan Harker, and Tom Waits plays bug-eating Renfield. Bram Stoker's Dracula was the winner of three Academy Awards.
CREDITS:
TM & © Sony (1992)
Cast: Anthony Hopkins, Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder
Director: Francis Ford Coppola
Producers: Michael Apted, Francis Ford Coppola, Susan Landau Finch, Fred Fuchs, James V. Hart, Charles Mulvehill, Robert O'Connor, John Veitch
Screenwriters: James V. Hart, Bram Stoker

A perfect storyline, soundtrack, cast and action, just a masterpiece of a film, and when you add Gary Oldman, it seals it. Perfectly captures the novel to the best of its ability, while leaving us with an unforgettable film. Sad, they don't make movies like this anymore, Ahead of it's time, and aged so well.

I remember being a kid and watching the trailers on TV and wanting to see this movie so bad, but I was only 7 or 8 at the time. My friends bought tickets for the rerelease at Alamo Drafthouse and it was the loudest damn movie I've been to, but I had the biggest smile on my face throughout the movie. Nobody will ever come close to being a better Dracula than Oldman's performance. Still a phenomenal movie from beginning to end.

I like how this scene shows his damnation but also sets up his eventual salvation. It shows the reincarnation theme and how destiny will play it out. The priest here is implied to be an ancestor or a previous life of Van Helsing with Anthony Hopkins playing him. And Elisabeta is doomed through suicide so Vlad sells his soul for her and it sets up his 'oceans of time' battle with God/church/Van Helsing (Priest) and his 'oceans of time' search for his wife (Mina). In the end the very thing that dooms him (Elisabeta/Priest) saves him (Mina/Van Helsing) and he has his final confrontation with God and is forgiven.

Such a classic and legendary film this is with a perfect storyline, soundtrack, cast, action as well as emotion. A film that is ageless, way ahead of its time, and even with age is still perfect. A film that captured Dracula completely and perfectly from the original origins with another master performance by the legendary Gary Oldman (like he always does) along with Anthony Hopkins especially when you have Gary Oldman, who always goes above & beyond sealing your movie to be one of the greats and of course a young Keanu all nailing their performances, directed by the legendary Francis Ford Coppola with another legendary unforgettable masterpiece film. Very sad that they do not make films like these anymore and how even today, this movie proves how advanced it was, its honestly ageless.

@@kyrieeleison5698 Yeah the action scenes were cool but the story itself of Dracula Untold is lame: 1) Vlad Tepes being a tragic hero: sure he could be an antihero but in Dracula Untold it is said that he was known as Impaler because he impaled for the turks and was called "Son of the Dragon" for some reason. I mean the true Vlad III Drăculea Tepes impaled turks, was called "Son of the Dragon" (Drăculea) because his father was Vlad II Dracul (Dracul meant Dragon in romanian and he was given such surname for his devotion to the sacred Order of the Dragon) and never fought wars for them and he was technically who declared war; when the Sultan sent emissaries for Wallachian tribute he demanded the turks to take off their turbants because they were in christian ground. When the turks refused, he stabed their own turbants in their heads mercilessly and it was taken as a declaration of war (where was this intimidating and insane Vlad in Dracula Untold?) 2) Not being faithful to the vampiric powers established by Bram Stoker; I mean was it really neccesary to add the "strength of 100 men" when Stoker specified that Dracula posseses the strength of 20? He was still far stronger than any soldier he would encounter in the field of battle so why make this uneccesary change? 3) Plotholes; How the f*ck did the Sultan know about vampiric weaknesses? This was a compleatly unknown creature they were facing and the only ones who partially knew some of the legends of the "Vampyre" were Vlad and that priest who warned him about Broken Tooth mountain and I don't think both would give any information to Mehmed. So, in the end he suddently knew about silver and even the stake for no reason at all. Great 4) Dracula not being the first vampire; this is something that was bothering me, I mean, is Dracula! It is through his own willingness to reject God and through his dark power that his victims were condemned to living death, not that of some unnamed (probably Caligula though) Master Vampire hiding in a mountain. This is nothing major and could have been overlooked because Charles Dance is a great actor but mostly if the rest of the film was good. Which wasn't. Dracula Untold makes a fine action movie, but it is no Dracula/Vampire movie. Let alone being at the same scale of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

It's called Dracula untold , the guy kills thousands of Turks and there's not a single impalement scene. (first thing that struck me), second of all, they all speak english for no reason. Thirdly, (but that's just my personal taste), the cinematography, the music, style & acting pale in comparison to Coppola's opening. Yes, there's big explosions, nice CG...But so what ? the fight choregraphy, the way it's filmed is meh... a waste of time. Coppola's version is more viseral & intense.
