@Koake1002 she didn't write it, but she made it hers. Kinda like how Whitney Houston didn't write I Will Always Love You. Yet it's the version everyone knows. Or how Bon Iver wrote Skinny Love. Yet Birdy is the one that made it famous.
after all these years...this song still hits me in all the right places....places that need healing, places that have been healed. This song is a staple in the soundtrack of my life
Unbelievable. I learned this years ago. Had a female vocalist that just Nailed it! My hair stood from the conviction of the Vocals Every Time ❤️ like Wow! Vocal BEAST
I'm known to everyone that I know and love music from all genres and eras,BUT the first time I heard this(around 3yr ago) my mate played it I sat there mesmerized with tears in my eyes. It's one of my favourite songs of all time
All of these lines across my face Tell you the story of who I am So many stories of where I've been And how I got to where I am But these stories don't mean anything When you've got no one to tell them to It's true, I was made for you I climbed across the mountain tops Swam all across the ocean blue I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules But baby, I broke them all for you Oh, because even when I was flat broke You made me feel like a million bucks You do, and I was made for you You see the smile that's on my mouth It's hiding the words that don't come out And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed They don't know my head is a mess No, they don't know who I really am And they don't know what I've been through like you do And I was made for you All of these lines across my face Tell you the story of who I am So many stories of where I've been And how I got to where I am Oh, but these stories don't mean anything When you've got no one to tell them to It's true, I was made for you Oh, yeah, well it's true that I was made for you
How does this not have over a million views?! Such a great song, and when combined with her voice inflections and pitch, this is magnificent. Brandi Carlile is such a gem, so underrated, but you get the impression she's okay with that as she shines the light on other performers like Tanya Tucker, Joni Mitchell, and Wynonna Judd to name a few.
I can't believe I haven't seen or heard this before. What an incredible performance! Thanks Elton you've got great taste in music. I can't stop playing it either!
In my life, I've heard Pat Benatar, Ann Wilson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson, Adele and so many more wonderful female singers that at one time or another I may have thought were the best ever. But right now, I gotta go with Brandi. Just incredible!
I agree. She makes me tear up with almost of her songs. The only one I can compare is Sarah McLachlan. Saw her in concert in the early oughts and was in tears the whole time.
This is the song of my life and Brandi is the platonic crush of my life! hahaha Who doesn't tremble inside listening to this voice and pitch!!!! aaaaaa
I am from South Africa, saw her live in my GAP year while traveling and working the usa in 2010. met the band outside the back of the venue. This was my big moment, still to this day. She is so humble and the twins too. Was great to be introduced and get a pic. Good to see they are still together making music on their land, not disbanded after all this time. Good to see they are being added to bigger lineups. They do deserve so much more exposure. They should be headlining already. I'm grateful for the exposure they get and hope that exposure turns into the exposure that makes them break though all of the walls.
😢😢😢 I got blown away ever since i first listened to this 😢😢song.... it makes me feel emotional and missing as well. I don't wanna stop listening to it though. It's like she sang it specifically for me. ❤❤
Maybe we can all agree that Brandi's voice is SERIOULSY under-rated and 'The Story' and 'The Joke' are top 10 songs of all time - and who thinks another artist can say they have 2 in the top 100 let alone top 10
I listen tô many Brandi sonhe, and It ALL started after hearing This onde in Sara Ramirez voice. I'm a Brazilian fan of Brandi and totally in love with her voice 💜💜💜💜
Damn, I am Hispanic and I’ve always listened a lot of music in English and I’ve never listen this singer before. I just can’t believe it. I just came because randomly watched “The Lucky one” movie right now and this song is part of the soundtrack. What I’ve been missing, she just became one of my favourite voices. Damn
“The Story” (2007) was Brandi Marie Carlile’s BREAKOUT HIT, but this piece of devotion is one of the few she didn’t write herself. The author was Phil Hanseroth. Brandi wrings a lot of emotion out of this tune. How does she relate to it, might you ask? Well, the same way listeners do to her music. In 2013, she explained : “[Songs and lyrics are] malleable. They can be made to be about one’s life. If it’s a love song, it can very easily be interpreted as a song about someone’s parents. It it’s about addiction, it could very easily be interpreted as being about a divorce or death. It’s relative. And that’s what I love about the art of songwriting.” Her producer asked the American vocalist to perform this without her acoustic guitar, arguing that the instrument was distracting her. Though furious at first, Carlile ended up putting the guitar aside and recorded the take that made the cut. “The Story” got a huge promotional push when it was released. It was an ITunes “single of the week,” and Carlile performed it on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Late Night With Conan O’Brien and the CBS Early Show… thus was viewed and heard by a massive audience‼️ 💙💫🩷
