Oh my goodness, I want you to do that to my back!! I have this problem with my back almost every month. I've been using my little Shiatsu back massage machine to get them out. I turn it on & sit in my chair and lean back against it as hard as I can stand (sometimes I press so hard to get the knots out that it makes my stomach upset so I have to back off). After doing it for 30-40 minutes a couple days in a row it feels much better for 2-3 weeks then back it comes. If I was a massage therapist this would seem to be some excellent information to have & skill to learn. Great video & information. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!

DR Sawyer that’s great that you have found a way to manage this it home! I would look for a Gua sha therapist around you to help you out. Or graston certified (physical therapists and chiros do this too)

Ty for sharing this very informative video. I had no idea other people dealt with this. Now I know how to treat it. Oh n for those looking to critique the video, try doing so in a respectful manner. Anything else is unnecessary.

Awesome info. I have been diagnosed with DISH Disease which can calcify soft tissue. Traditional physical therapy just hurts. I’m interested in this but I get mixed opinions on whether Gua sha is good or bad for DISH.

Where in Colorado is there a professional like you?! I would be 100% dedicated to weekly massages! I have had several “deep tissue” massages and although I say please focus on my shoulder blades they never do 😔

Hi, do you have any tips to determine if you have a knot or a bursa? (specific region between the shoulder blade and spine)

Interesting idea using the tools. I use tapping techniques to break up those areas, but I can see this technique would give added attention to the rhomboids.

Do you always do both sides equally? Or can you just work the trouble side?
@Zionsedgemassage
@Zionsedgemassage 3 года назад
That's a great question Elise. In the first massage if they are really experiencing pain, I will end up spending more time on the problem area. It will usually be around twice as long. But I do try to even them out on both sides.

Have you ever done dark skin people? What are the the indicators of success or failure on them?
@Zionsedgemassage
@Zionsedgemassage 5 лет назад
First Don Diego that is an excellent question. It will depend on how dark the skin is. If it’s moderately dark you will be able to see changes in tone, but if it’s really dark you may have to go more on feel. Another indicator of areas that needed work are raised bumps on their surface of the skin and warmness and you can definitely look and feel for that. And Make sure it’s adequately warmed up and look for the areas that feel bumpy and grainy when you are scraping.

I’m a black woman I’ve had it done …. & I had some redness on my skin as the blood circulated/ came to the surface …but no deep scarring! I have chronic pain & I highly recommend gettin this done . Also they sell gua sha tools on Amazon …but u can gua sha with a spoon or anything with a rounded hard edge that u can safely scrap to achieve that relief - tbh that’s what my holistic therapist recommended I do in between seeing her for sessions

Do you have any ideas for self gua sha/ gastron tech. on mid to lower back?
@Zionsedgemassage
@Zionsedgemassage 5 лет назад
Hi Krystel, well we have to be careful about doing It over the kidneys, but you can definitely do work over that area (though there Is to solid structure - bone- to scrape against on the lower back. When I have clients that need fascial release on the lower back, I'll actually use cupping. But anything from the rib cage up, you have someone do on you. But doing it on yourself is only going to happen if you have some crazy flexibility. I just posted a vid on cupping - you might want to check it out. Do you have chronic back problems?

@@Zionsedgemassage Thanks for all the good info, and yes I have chronic (lower) back pain. Sometimes I can someone so gua sha on me, but one of the things that appealed to me is I can treat myself w/it. I will check out your cupping video.

I used to have chronic lower back pain until I had my psoas worked on. I have a desk job and all that sitting kept the psoas muscle shortened. It’s an uncomfortable treatment, but definitely worth it.

@susanhorvath2254

This is much deeper. Brushing is focused on the lymphatic system which is right underneath the skin and is moved with very light movement/massage.
