Tara, thank you so much for doing the podcast with me, for sharing this clip and for the shout out to support my channel! This is super kind of you! Also I want to tell you that I'm learning so much from you - not just about breathing. I admire how well you communicate and how you run your channel too! I need to work on all those things!!!

@sakurajudousa I had so much fun talking with you. You ask very intelligent questions, which forces me to be a better communicator, so I am equally grateful to you. Also, we're friends now, Dimitriy, so let's plan more discussions/projects for the future.😉

So good to have you back, spoiling us with your guidance delivered softly without belittleing. I for one have learned that Wim and other more 'harsh' breakthing techniques are not good if one is compromised. Yet the media hype of same, forgets that some can be harming.

@mijf1171 Thank you! Yes, I tend to agree with you. It's one of my pet peeves, honestly. Certain techniques get sensationalized, but because people do not understand the deeper mechanisms at play, it doesn't occur to them to consider precautions or contraindications. The population I work with (including myself) really cannot tolerate hyperventilation techniques. It makes our symptoms far worse. It is important to realize that just because something is popular, doesn't make it innocuous. Everyone needs to do their own homework to discover what is right for their bodies. Thank you for your feedback. Appreciate you, as always.

Love the subject! I did start with Wim hof / oxygen advantage and found the Belightt channel. Thank you, Tara! I was doing the wim hof but not hyperventilating just normal breaths. More relaxing that way. I also followed a channel on deep diving. The practice breathing was breathing normal for a minute and on the inhale, holding your breath for a minute or less and then building up during multiple minute breaths to increase your breath hold times. Many ways to exercise your breath. Especially breathing through your nose to take advantage of nitric oxide. In deep diving, you want the co2 to warn you when it's time to resurface. Thanks, Tara!

@dparis1768 Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate your input, as you have so much personal experience with various breathing styles. There are certainly so many ways to practice breathing. And definitely, if you are diving, you need CO2 to kick in as a warning bell! You would NEVER want to hyperventilate before going under water. That's a recipe for disaster! Thanks for the reminder and for leaving that in the comments.🙌

Just stumbled upon you happenstance. Enjoyed the short clip. My breathing is terrible and is in part the culprit to many years of health problems ( I’m asthmatic) New subscriber here. I’ll check out your past videos ❤

Hi @mickkali Thank you so very much for checking out this short clip and for subscribing to my channel! I am so grateful for your support!🙏💖 Yes, asthma can cause so many other long-term health issues. Luckily, asthma is one of those issues that can be dramatically improved by making improvements to your daily breathing habits. Please reach out with any specific questions, and I will try to guide you accordingly. Thanks so much again for supporting the channel!

amazing! i will be sure to watch very intrigued i practice Wim Hof breathing almost everyday i do however think it is VERY different than breath hold training and Co2 tolerance for relaxing i think the low Co2 low O2 holds have its own sets of benefits over high Co2 low O2.. i think its VERY important to practice a lot of Co2 tolerance breathing and slow relaxing breath with a Wim Hof practice or you can get the negitive effects over time that Tara mentions with too much over breathing practice like Wim Hofs
@BELightTT
@BELightTT 8 месяцев назад
@IntoTheDepths444 I 100% agree with you. I'm glad you have such a diverse practice, and I think you are going about it in a really intelligent and practical way. If you love WHM and you want to get the specific benefits of that practice, that's terrific, but it's important to realize there is always a sort of "trade-off" and that it's really important to practice as much "functional breathing" as possible for the remainder of the day. I think you have the right recipe for sure!🙌 Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience and methodology. I really appreciate that!

Another great video from Tara. I did Wim Hof because I heard Kate Winslet held her breath for 7 minutes and 15 seconds. I worked my way up to a 9 minute breath hold on an exhale. As always an interesting video.

@williamhenry3337 That's amazing! William, I didn't realize you had gotten up to a 9-minute breath hold. Awesome!🙌And tell me, are you still practicing Wim Hof today? Do you get other benefits from that practice? And have you ever experienced any negative side effects? I would love to hear more about your personal experience. Thanks for watching, William! Always appreciate you.😊

@@BELightTT I did the 7 minute advanced breath hold (see attached link) many times. I only did 9 minutes twice. Oxygen saturation at 78. Google says if your brain goes without oxygen for as little as 4 minutes you can have permanent brain damage. Google says death can occur in as little as 8 minutes (ask George Floyd). I worry about doing it to often so I haven't been doing Wim Hof lately. I don't have positive or negative impact either. I always breath through my nose and do the Dr Andrew Weil breathe work (4-7-8) and your BEST nitric oxide video with bumble bee humming breathe work daily. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8AEP-DX260U.htmlfeature=shared

Let me share / ask something about breathing. This may be relevant to your viewers. Maybe you can touch on this in your videos or maybe we can talk about this in the next episode of my podcast. So, I heard about importance of nose breathing long ago, but kind of dismissed it as NOT PRACTICAL, especially when exercising at high intensity. Two problems: 1) There doesn't seem to be enough air coming in through the nose. 2) The nose tends to be "stuffed" to various degrees. If you are catching a cold and it's really stuffed - well, it seems just to be plain impossible to breath through the nose. When not sick, there is often still some amount of mucus which TENDS TO COME OUT upon exhale! Yak. Not cool :) Any words of wisdom there? Having said that, after talking to you I decided I'm gonna REALLY give it a try now. So when I go for my jog in the morning I do a close to maximum hold on exhale, then challenge myself to recover breathing through the nose and continue breathing through the nose during the entire jog. I decided to take the approach that the mucus coming out of my nose is a sign that I EXHALE TOO FAST. I notice that if I sort of HUMM on exhale, it slows it down sufficiently to prevent the embarrassing situation described above. And humming is all kinds of good too. I notice that it seems hard at first, however after 5 minutes everything normalizes: the mucus seems to go away, breathing seems to slow down, no more humming is required. So, am I on the right track here? Have I just rediscovered the wheel? :)
@dparis1768
@dparis1768 8 месяцев назад
You're on the right track. I started breathing through my nose 3 years ago. It was rough. My nostrils were so narrow and swollen, but I persevered. Today, it's the second nature. Definitely helps your mucus and respiratory system. Less allergies and colds. There are times when you will need to breathe through your mouth when you're sprinting. It helps keep moisture in your mouth, so less dehydration. Less sickness. Keep up the good work!

@sakurajudousa I think you answered your own question. Yea, Dimitriy, this is a bit too much for the video comments. I work with my private clients on this type of stuff and we cover this in my 4-week program. But, yes, you absolutely have the right idea...you can already see that, just from the positive results you're getting. Converting to nasal breathing during aerobic activity sucks. And the mucus is definitely an issue. I would encourage you to carry a hanky with you on your runs, LOL😂 You need a good 2-3 months of consistent training to fully convert to nasal breathing during this type of activity. Hope it helps! Actually, as an aside, this is not a new idea at all. My bf told me that when he was training at Tokai (this would have been 20-25 years ago), they used to duct tape their mouths closed while training and sparring. That's very similar to the idea I spoke about in our conversation regarding the SportsMask. You are creating more resistance to breathing, limiting how much air can get in, but more importantly how much CO2 can get out. It is extreme! And not for everyone. Progression is VERY important here. But the potential positive adaptation for performance is great!
