I had so much fun watching other people's videos and I had my own little collection so... thanks @LostLifetimes for responding to a comment and making this feel less stupid to do
I just realised I need to be less ashamed of my food opinions because if Brennan has the same way of looking at food as me there's no way I'm doing it wrong.
I say. Live life. It's too short to worry about what other people think....I mean unless you're a psychopath. Then maybe worry a little. Cus that's empathy.
If food was only meant as fuel we wouldn't have taste buds Enjoy your food try something new, keep to classics, love yourself the same a chef would love you for eating their food with heart and joy!
I really appreciate how he approaches talking about this. There's no guilt, no "I'm goin' crazy over here, gonna regret this later!" no weight talk (aside from meal-must-be-heavy-to-pass-the-Brennan-test), no pitting "junk" foods against "healthy" options, nothing. He both recognises that food is fuel, yet truly savors the process and the love that goes into making food good. It's all very experiential and tethered to people he loves, people he's never met but knows put their heart into something, or valued alone time. What a solid dude. Refreshing takes all around, would love to cook him a (heavy) meal and share it.
@@squeezie_b8895he's also a man who's talked about working out several times. men talk about a lot of this in a disordered way as much as others, but often differently
They're amazing. The problem is that they're the heaviest shit on earth. It's truly astonishing to me that people can eat more than 4 of them. But to be fair, I don't have the highest tolerance for heavy, greasy food.
My grandad used to make them every Hanukah, it was a yearly highlight. I remember how only a half of each batch would make it to the table, with the rest vanishing misteriously on the way... Good times.
they literally just talked about this in a recent adventuring party. "You (Brennan) and Grant, culinarily, are full opposites. Grant will sit down and just eat, like a bowl of spinach, and that's a meal for him." -Siobhan, as they discuss how Brennan views salads as medicine
Ya know, as a native Irishman, Brennan for all that I love him usually reads more American to me than Irish, but this compilation start to finish was pure Irish. Between that sort of weirdly hallowed way of speaking about foods that would kill lesser men with the sheer fucking heft of them, to the almost insulted face when someone compares his favourite foods to sex like 'how dare you sully my culinary enjoyment by comparing it to something so vulgar' is just start to finish conversations that Ive been on both sides of. Especially the sticky toffee pudding 'DM' description.
same!! i have a bad relationship with food that started during childhood, so i hate having any kind of conversation about food and i hate seeing people eat and also them seeing me eating. but somehow! this mans sweet enthusiasm over food! is making me feel better about it all! how?!
The way Brennan describes not just food but the *experience* of good food, gives me the same feeling I felt watching Ratatouille as a kid. Something in my soul feels hungry and content all at once
3:04 I usually don’t watch a lot of compilations but the choice to overlay the audio from the podcast over the visual of Brennan candidly munching is like staring into a campfire while listening in on a good story lmao It just tickled my brain lmao
Fettuccine is the best. It's heavy, holds sauce well, thick, and excellent for slurping. Like, the slurp is solid and satisfying. That being said, penne comes in at a close second place for me. It loses points for lacking the slurp but gains points for the sauce-hold. Now, angel hair spaghetti can be tossed right into the compost. Those weak, pathetic noodles!
I’d love to talk about food with Brennan, because we have almost none of the same tastes, but all the same passion. It would be a beautiful arguscussion
If weight is how Brennan determines the goodness of food, he’d fuckin love my lasagna Edit: watching Brennan perk up whenever another person mentions a food he hasn’t tried before and he has this look of absolute wonder as if he is listening to someone recount their journey to the far reaches past the known universe, it’s magical
This video will be the perfect remedy for days when I don't have an appetite. Hearing someone I admire so much talk so passionately about food feels like comfort food in itself and makes me want to eat all the actual comfort food he talks about. Love it so much.
@@whithertheywander you said it with food is my love language. It is a crime that I cannot express my enjoyment of brennan’s content by like, faxing him chili
@@kimberlyvance3131 Seriously, Dimension 20 should open up a roster of people who will just... send homemade snacks to filming sessions. 10/10 would go on a brief trip to LA (from Australia) and hire a place to stay with a kitchen if they'd be willing to film 15 seconds of the D20 team scarfing down my homemade scones or blackberry pie or nachos or whatever.
I really want him on "Last Meals" on the Mythical Kitchen channel. Firstly, I'd think it'd be a great interview, second is he'd get to eat all his favorite foods :D
this is terrific, and terrifically niche, and comforting to those of us in the venn diagram of both being very food passionate and very brennan lee mulligan oriented
as a fellow food lover, nothing makes me happier than seeing people get happy about the food they're eating, so watching this video was just one big dose of serotonin for me edit: this is missing the most recent and good installment of the description of the seafood stew and baked goods from episode 16 of worlds beyond number.... that was truly a love letter from brennan to food and it made me SO hungry
@whithertheywander exactly!!! you gotta love good food man!! salad and healthy foods have their place but like brownies and ice cream and deep fried stuff has its place too!!!
I still feel like my one biggest regret as a 16 year old was only being able to eat 20 inches of my 22-inch meatball grinder. I could have made it, but my lunch break was over
i remember, he told the cheesecake story on the GBBO episode of tablepop because they were rolling their dice into a cake that brennan resolved to eat after the shoot. everybody was like, the dice have contaminated the cake, let's not eat it, and brennan was like, no just avoid the top and eat through the sides!
This is soooooo comforting and healing. Love him and loooove when people openly and unapologetically and loudly love food. Killing diet culture one compilation at a time 👌👌👌
@@whithertheywander There's also the car crash food stories. On the Exandria DM's roundtable he's got a story about dealing with shock after a car accident by eating a pizza and a half (and also the great DM snacking rant). And in a more recent Dirty Laundry on Dropout there was a question along the lines of "Who retrieved their Milano cookies from a car wreck?" And I immediately knew it was Brennan. I was correct.
I want to find all instances of the car crash/milano/tony pepperoni story to make the conclusive version but I can think of like four without knowing for sure how to find them. thanks for the assist
Truly, the big takeaway from this video is so important - community is best facilitated through good, filling food. There's nothing more wholesome and fulfilling than people sharing their favorite foods and coming together to enjoy them.
honestly brennan's so real for being so passionate about latkes like there was one day i ate only latkes and it was probably one of the best days of my life i love latkes so much and i've literally told my friends about how matzo ball soup is better than any medicine in the world lol
I used to get really badly b-limic and had such a reward-based approach to food. And honestly, Brennan unabashedly snacking and just being so enthusiastic about food, it helped so much. The way he describes some of the foods he loves, it got me out of some bad routines. Like, nah, f-ck this, I'm having sticky toffee pudding
This whole video is a delight. The look of surprise and wonder when he takes that first bite of deep fried éclair is a magical thing! (Beautifully highlighted by your editorial annotations, might I add.)
This video means so much to me. This is my roman empire. You're doing god's work. Also can we talk about him gushing over Izzy's latkes, so cute, and like of course the Irish guy would love the potato thing
❤❤❤❤❤ I'm honored, yes I love him talking about Izzy's cooking and how much they like cookies together. You reminded me I should've pulled the potato bit from the nickname question on 99q, next time I guess. Also I love your work and made a whole squeaky noise when I saw you commented
Nothing makes me feel more validated in my untethered love of food than this beautiful, beloved man sharing the same sentiment. Thank you, Brennan Lee Mulligan.
This was great. I love the recent episode of Make Some Noise too where Erika gives Brennan the senior class superlative of "most almonds eaten in a day". Last night's Burrows End, where he literally had to break a scene with Izzy because he was eating a Frito as well! LOL "Mom, are you okay?" "I'm eating a Frito."
Brennan has never met me and doesn't know that I exist... and yet with his understanding of food, he understands my soul better than anyone else on the planet.
When he talks about the dumplings at 14:38 I damn near broke down. $5-20 dumplings and we'll eat like kings, and be strong for the world tomorrow...I felt that.
I think this genuinely healed a small part of me that struggles with food. I have a very complicated relationship with eating but this wonderful man talking about food like he lives and dies for it is so healing for the soul. I am going to go eat so many cookies now
In exchange for all the delightful and enriching entertainment that Brennan has provided for me throughout the years, I feel obligated to provide him the heaviest, fattiest and most filling home cooked meal he's ever eaten. I would like to make this beautiful boy waddle chubbily away from the table. This is an open offer, someone please bring it to Brennan's attention. Honestly the whole D20 cast & crew can come too, I'll feed all of ya'll. We're talking from scratch pierogis, spicy seafood gumbo, lentil soup, stuffed mushrooms, veal meatloaf w/mushroom gravy, baked ham, scotch eggs, baked mac & cheese, my grandmother's unbeatable recipe for sage sausage stuffing, etc... It would be like Thanksgiving with none of the lame staple dishes or any family there to ruin it. Just a free-for-all orgy of gluttonous consumption. Hmu Brennan.
u know what, i’ve been struggling to get the energy to make myself proper food these days and this is the motivation i need to actually cook something. love this man
Brennan is one of the most interesting people! He understands that food is a gift and some of the best parts of a day! As a Storteller he has that way with words!
Yesterday, I went out to brunch with friends. I got my first Cubano (Cuban Sandwich). (it was a Pavo [Turkey] Cubano if anyone is curious) it was THE SINGLE BEST sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. No joke. There’s half of it (and DELICIOUS chips and salsa) still left. I’m gonna eat it later, but how SPIRITUALLY I relate to Brennan’s love of good food..it just made me think of that fire ass sandwich I have awaiting me at home
oh man the best sandwiches I’ve ever had are bahn mi from Vietnam. Delicious crunchy fluffy baguette, thick layers of salty pate, and meaty ham, offset by crisp lettuce and cucumber and generous handfuls of fresh zingy cilantro seasoned with fish sauce it’s so so so so so good and heavy and light at the same time so delicious, just straight culinary perfection in a brown paper bag
I was so happy when he started talking about latkes, because the idea and approach had all felt right to me, bt up until that point, most of what he talked about wasn;t foods I really eat, but damn I love latkes. And when I first saw the How to drink episode, I was so surprised and happy to have him show up there
This compilation made me think that I also want a compilation of Brennan talking about how much and what he loves about Izzy. Cuz every time he says her name or talks about her, the light in his eyes that was for food combines with his love for Izzy. You can tell that he absolutely LOVES her, and as a fellow Capricorn I love that for him.
Theres still extended family in my house since last week, I have been stressed and unable to sleep since they visited, clip compilations like this are saving me rn
I love the Overboard montage included in this. Brennan showing up on Polygon was, at the time, a big endorsement when I was still unfamiliar with what Dropout was up to. It's funny to remember a time when I recognized Brennan but NOT Lou Wilson, Zac Oyama, etc.
amazing, 10/10, though im surprised you didnt include the clip of brennan and connie thinking instant coffee was a snack, not bc it fits the theme but bc its hilarious
i cannot describe the sorrow and yearning hearing brennan talk about downing these different foods by the pound. i got my gallbladder removed years ago and haven't been able to truly eat since then.
i love seeing everyone in the comments appreciating brennan’s appreciation of food bc same. honest to god it’s healing; as someone who has struggles with food this is just great to see and listen to
I fucking love food but the way Brennan goes on about it is so sincere and fills me with such joy every time. I know I have this passion within me I just need to unlock it, so I can be like Brennan and inspire the love of food in others. Bro enhanced my whole aspect on food, thanks for putting this out here
Lol I remember I did the cheesecake thing once. It was a middle school play and a loaf of fancy bread. During rehearsals I hollowed the fancy bread out bit by bit then when the show actually happened I took a bite out of the loaf of bread and it was probably the loudest, crunchiest, most stale bite of bread ever. I have no idea if anybody in the audience or my scene partner noticed, but I found it really funny and it took so much willpower to not laugh out loud about it.
