@@teresaotworth1684 the dress didn't have any sparkle and was mostly tulle. Its all about the material and labor put into making a dress. A big tulle skirt doesn't actually cost as much as a fitted satin skirt. Also, lace can be produced by a machine in bulk and then applied strategically to a skirt and corset. Whereas beading and Crystals must be applied by hand.

It's not the guilt-trip part, it's the "I'm totally responsible for making the relationship" part. Rather arrogant and controlling to me.

I'm not Greek but my family was completely involved in my wedding. Grooms,mother made the cake, grooms sister in law made the little mints for the cake table. The 2 of them together made the table decorations. My younger sister did the flowers, my older brother gave me away as my father had passed away, my sister and brother in law were matron of honor. and groomsmen, my niece was Jr bridesmaid and nephew was ring bearer. My grooms brother and sister in law were bridesmaid and best man. The grooms children were flower girl, Jr groomsman and ring bearer. We each had 1 friend as bridesmaid and groomsman. My mother paid for the church and Minister and caterer. As I said it was a total family affair and was absolutely perfect. The day couldn't have been any better. It wasn't a huge wedding, about 200 people. We were fortunate enough to have a photographer as well as a videographer. One from the front of the church and the 2nd from the pack,. No one helped me pick out my dress as I made it and all the dresses for the wedding party. I also made my grooms tuxedo as well as tuxedos for the young boys. I had the perfect wedding that I had always dreamed of and didn't have to spend a small fortune to do it. I waa working at a formal wear store at the time so I could have bought a dress had I chosen to but I had always dreamed of making my own dress. I had made many dresses in the past so I was up for the challenge and I finished all the clothing in 6 weeks time as that's all the time we had to plan our wedding

Yess. I see the brides in the last episode forcing her mom to buy the most expensive dress dubble her price and she don't care. She is fk adult can't even pay for herself. I'm glad and thank God in my country the whole family helping the bride and the groom paying for the dress and the groom pays the bride helps. The family collect money for them and pay for the furnitures too that's a teamwork

It’s all about more money to help by a house, we’re talking a substantial amount and she gets that , it was beautiful, perfect for an Orthodox wedding.

The money thing was done in Greece until the mid 80ies, then it stopped. The braking of the plates also stopped at that time

The sample of the 2nd dress fit her fairly well, whereas the sample of the 1st gown was several sizes too big - if it had been in her size, it would have "fit her torso. . .and [have given] her some shape."

@@BasicYTHandle Maybe... But I thought the first dress had too long of a torso for her, even with the proper size, it hit too low on her waist. But you could be right of course.

@@BasicYTHandle That is right. They didn't bother to use the normal "clips" at the back of the first sample dress that they normally use to to tighten the bodice around the bride. Not clipping it at the back, made it appear to be slipping down her torso, because it was loose.

She’s such a delicate little lady. The first sample dress just swallowed her. I’m not sure that it could have been clipped to make it look better. Perhaps if they pinned the dresses like Gok does…

The first dress was double the size she required. It really interfered with the fit. And I don't think the plunging back really suited her. The second dress was pretty and demure which seemed to fit her style more.

I wanted a big dress like one of my cousins had, but I am only 5'3 and barely weighed 100 lbs when I got married and the dresses were just too much for me. I wore a Jessica McClintock/Gunne Sax dress with a simple crinoline under it, just a fingertip length veil

I didn't think the waistline flattered her at all, but maybe it was her posture. Unfortunately I see a lot of girls a bit hunched over when they put on a strapless top and it creates a stomach pooch.

Definitely not flattering on her and her entourage was being too polite to say it. She should walk away, look at other options (magazines, internet) then come back. If still drawn to only that dress, then it is the one.

In Argentina its the same. In our capital, theres nothing like that and in the Interior we have something similar. Not so bombastic, but during the couple first dance people gives them money

I was going to say, I’m Greek and have been to many Greek weddings and I had never heard of this tradition. Although now I’m think this may be a staple. 😉

That’s what I used to make my dress super big.. it’s so much better than the hoops because you can actually sit down without flashing your goodies at everyone lol… since we had to travel with the dress the crinoline got a bit flat and my gown started dragging it was so frustrating.. until my aunt told me to take it off.. she took it, turned it upside down and sprayed each section in the crinoline with hairspray let it dry a bit flipped it back around and when I put it back on my dress was MASSIVE but I wasn’t stepping on it anymore 😂

I'm not sure how many blood relatives there were, but I think the Vietnamese community in that area is/was very close-knit; plus her father was a minister, so... lots of expectations and obligations. - Sometimes I dream of having a big family, but then I remember that a) I am an introvert and b) not every big family is a big _happy_ family. ;-)

I’ve been to a Greek x Swedish wedding, the bride was from Sweden and the groom from Greece. They flew in plenty of guests from Sweden, guess it was a surprise to them xd

I hate when cultures have stuff like that tbh. Like for an indian wedding if you want a small one people are gonna think oh shes not proud of her partner or shes embarrassed (or pregnant) and its so annoying. If you wanna have the non-traditional style wedding its always so judged.

@@veraps.5176 Funny you should say that. My husband asked his Greek buddy if he had seen that movie and what he thought. Greek buddy laughed and said that's pretty much what his family is like, spot on. I don't know from where exactly in Greece his family is, though.

....I find them overbearing. Not Greek myself. But had a fair few Greek female friends, who seriously struggled with growing up in such an environment.

Sm we are Bengali Bangladeshi . We also have so many guest and also we just invite 300 guest in my brithday cz they are our closet family members relatives . And India also sm as BD . Indian meximam guests are more than 600 in a wedding and it's normal 😁😂...
