It is. I married in 2011 and didn't pay more than 2k which includes my dress. There's no WAY I was paying more for one dang day. And believe it or not it worked and was fine. I borrowed a lot and made due with what I had because I was paying for it all

My mom got bridesmaids dresses from J.C.Penney's in the 90's,got her wedding dress on sale for 100$ at David's bridal, and my grandmother baked her wedding cake.But I don't who of the many groomsmen I've seen picked their tuxes.Maybe because some guys neglect to try things on,forget certain items i.e socks,bout,ties.I guess it's been easier to take care of it for them if they don't show interest.If their responsible and consider it an honor good on them...go for it. I remember looking through those JCP bridal catalogues. And dreamed. I was fortunate enough to wear the dress of a sweet friend and the style was exactly what I'd wanted.

We got married 37 years ago [1984]. I wore my Mom's dress, had a matron of honour and I let her buy whatever kind of dress she wanted. Hubby & brother rented tuxes. We had dinner for 63 in a park pavilion after we were married outside in the park. My grandmother made our cake. My friend's husband, who didn't know anyone volunteered to take pictures. He was by no means a professional but he promised to get a pic of everyone there. We have so many amazing candid shots of everyone enjoying themselves throughout the wedding, it's amazing. So many moments we didn't witness while doing "official wedding stuff" that we've had memories of for all these years. One of my favourite photos is of hubby and I having a serious discussion about something between the ceremony and walking to the pavilion. We were totally oblivious to the camera and were just relaxed and so much "us". We spent one thousand dollars. The biggest expense was for the city ballet company to make a crinoline for me to go under Mom's dress that she wore over hoops in the 1950s. My seamstress grandmother steered us to the ballet company. They were modestly priced, [way, way less than any wedding shop wanted to do alterations] they enjoyed the challenge, we had a lot of fun with them and it was an awesome result. The costume maker also suggested a few other alterations, at no extra cost, to modernize the dress. Thank goodness I don't have typical '80s fashion in my wedding pictures LOL 😏

Actually the episode called "is this rustic wedding worth it?" has a super lovely couple in it. The bride made sure to always get the grooms opinion on things, and he wanted to make sure she got the flowers that she liked, budget be damned. They even splurged for his groomsmen gifts. They were honestly just the sweetest freaking couple. No bridezillas, no dismissing the groom.

After 20 years in education and a PhD, I just want you to be comforted in the fact that those negative comments about how parents should be teaching values and morals is a liberal cop out that teachers learn to say while they blatantly teach values that undermine what parents teach at home. This bride displays the exact behavior that teachers and teachers’ unions display and teach- throw a fit when you don’t get your way because you deserve it. This is why I left the profession and now homeschool my kids.

What I just can say, based on my experience of weddings in Italy (I’m Italian and I’m 52, so I had the chance to participate to many weddings…) is that I never had tiramisú as a cake. You made the right choice. My family and my husband's family made most of the stuff for our wedding reception after we saw how much professionals wanted to charge, but it was a lot of work! If I had to do it over, I would have had a much smaller wedding.
