The mom says she gets the feeling her daughter doesn’t want her there?! Woman, you won’t go because of dad and she still wants you at the dress fitting? Any tough time or “feelings” you feel are caused by your husband and your enablement of him.

I can’t imagine a Dad wanting their daughter to stay with someone who cheats on them. I feel so sorry for this brides mother, her husband has clearly been abusing her their whole relationship. Afraid to go to her own daughters wedding because she’s worried about what she’d have to deal with at home from husband. So very sad. I hope she finds the courage to leave him.

This has obviously been dad’s own mo if he’s not ready to take out the guy who cheats on his daughter, but instead encourages her to stay with him. Sadly the daughter, likely raised in a house with an unpleasant father, does not understand that she deserves WAY better. It’s SO unfortunate that the mother cannot find it in herself to support her own daughter over her husband. This is my mother and her husband ALL over!

I saw my own mother and her husband here. It’s more likely that mum supports the husband’s appalling behaviour and casts herself as the meat in the sandwich. She’ll do nothing and I do wonder if the mother actually DID go to the wedding for a finish. It’s unconscionable that these mothers are unwilling to prioritise their kids over their husbands. Your kid is WAY more important than a partner in every facet of life! When the father leaves the mother eventually, guess who she’ll be looking to for support and help…those very same kids who mean diddly squat now when she’s still got the husband.

It took my mother 24 years to finish her college degree and follow her dream of being a school teacher. What kind of loser dad values "traditional southern values" over his daughter's happiness and wellbeing? I consider infidelity borderline emotional abuse, so he's basically saying "I don't care that your husband hurt and abused you honey, I won't stand by your side unless you stay with him." Im glad her mom was starting to change her mind because it makes you a failure of a parent to stick by an awful father like that otherwise

I agree with what you say, but can’t believe that the mother would change something that’s worked for her for at least 23 years.

I don’t know what episode it was but when she came back for her fitting the mother ended up not going to the wedding. The father was very set on her not going sadly.

It's not a southern value. She thinks that because she grew up with an abusive dad. My own mother declined marriage to my father because of abuse. She didn't feel she must be married even though she had children with him. He wasn't a good person and that was that. There is no "southern marriage standard". Even my aunt has been divorced because of infidelity. We are all from Georgia.

@@Ready-ForTheEnd I'm aware lol. Plenty of people use the term "traditional values" to excuse abusive or bigoted behavior.

@@shannonseltzer thats depressing. I know her mother is probably being abused too but I'd cut them out of my life at that point. Not worth the heartache.

I saw the picture of the church the second bride was getting married in and thought it was a lovely gothic building and the stained glass was beautiful. I'm interested in that sort of thing so I looked it up and to my surprise 'one of the oldest churches in Atlanta' was only built in the 1920s! I'm glad to know people are still capable of producing such spectacular craftsmanship but it also made me chuckle a bit as even my local parish church dates back to the 12th century and I've never heard anyone saying "oh yes, it's one of the oldest churches in the area you know". 😁

So, 'dad,' you're going to break your own daughter's heart by not only not attending the wedding yourself, but also banning her mother from attending... because you totally gotta uphold them good ol' fashioned values of sticking with a cheater rather than reclaiming your self-respect? Yeah, that's *real* parental 'love' right there, isn't it? 🤨

One thing that was crystal clear in my growing up years was that if my dad ever forced my mom to decide between him and the kids, he would be on the losing end of that battle. But the thing is, he never would have anyway because he wasn't a selfish narcissist. When my husband, who was like a son to my parents, cheated, my parents, said, "Well, I guess that's it for him then." He fell light years of that pedestal. Neither parent would ever want me to stay with someone who demonstrated such low character. That the mom is choosing to appease the dad instead of supporting her daughter makes me think he is at minimum extremely controlling or at worst, abusive. The mom should maybe follow her daughter's lead.
