In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Bridear from Japan.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

I didn't stress it enough, but I think the guitar work is an outstanding feature of the band- a notch above a lot of the all-girl J-rock bands

Bridear has been around for nearly 10 years now. They have had several lineup changes over those years. The last one hit them pretty hard having to start over with new guitarist and a drummer. Kimi, the vocalist and Haru on bass are founding members. Natsumi on drums was picked from the Band Telecide which disbanded. They have really progressed on their last two albums with the current line up. This video and some of their upcoming tour to the EU and the UK was crowdfunded. This song is a single and did not make their last album Bloody Bride. Kimi's vocals are versatile and can be right at home on a pop song. Check out "Dear Bride" for something close to that.

I have been following this band for a while now. BAND MAID, TRiDENT and Bridear are my favorites. All decidedly rock sounding with Bridear being the heaviest. In this third iteration of the band, I think they have become more listenable overall. Hardcore fans still rant and rave about the original version, but what is past is past. I am just happy to see them still together in this form and still rocking out. They still deliver some pretty special music. I think the style here is something they created and doesn't fit in a box.

Great reaction and it's nice to see Bridear releasing new music and this is quite different from what I've heard in the past, seems they've changed again and it's for the good. The only good thing to come out of the extended lock downs seems to be some pretty awesome new music for all the Japanese bands. "Bloody Bride" (from back in April) is also a bit more prog, but not as much as this one, but still a good song.

One of the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands, founded in 2011. They go hard and heavy, and really epitomize the technical side of Japanese rock bands. This is the original lineup: Kimi-Vocals Haru-Bass, growls Misa-Guitars, growls Mitsuru-Guitars (pink flying V) Kai-Drums In 2019, Kai left to start a family, Misa left to pursue her own musical vision, Mitsuru soon followed, and they had to bebuild. Amazingly, they did so without any loss in quality, finding Misaki and Ayumi on Guitar, and after one short stint with another drummer, Natsumi, formerly of Telecide, to take over on drums. New Lineup: Kimi, Haru, and Misaki-Guitar, audience left Ayumi-Guitar, audience right Natsumi-Drums I saw them live in London just after this lineup came together, and they were explosive, playing mostly stuff from the original lineup. They have been experimenting with a variety of styles, dabbing in progressive and pop, but they still come back to their metal roots. In “Brave New World Revisited” (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_6-OXcyMkYI.html) I think they’ve got a masterpiece. It’s also a tour-de-force for their brilliant young guitarist Ayumi. If this is their direction, they are going to re-emerge into the top tier of Japanese bands. From the original lineup: “Light in the Dark” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CN3KDIBdosQ.html “Ignite” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LQIDqudG_DQ.html New Lineup: “Starlight” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4lq90GqRxiE.html “Bloody Bride” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CN3KDIBdosQ.html

I knew the band but never paid much attention before - for me they were just one more metal band, good but definitly not outstanding. This song made me changed my mind, it's probably their best stuff ever. If they keep on writing such stuff, I may become a fan. They're playing in my town next month, I took my ticket - just curious.

@@deanwolfechannel So I saw them ten days ago in Brussels during their european tour. Lovely band really, it was a real tour like in "the good ole days":a van, two roadies and a different country every day. (except in the UK, three gigs + one in Glasgow). Very professional (in Brussels, one of the rented amps was defective at the sound check - they got by), great attitude and very friendly people. Now I'm a fan.

All Japanese bands are superb live and Bridear are no exception. Natsumi, their drummer is great. You need to try Sokoninaru, their song Re:Prog. Incredible track. Having seen them live in London in 2018, I am fan for life. They played this live and it was better.

Hey, this was pretty great! Honestly, I didn't expect much. Been inundated with Japanese bands lately, and thought- what "new" can there be in this category? I'm pleasantly surprised. This reminded me a bit of Nightwish. I agree with you, Dean. This singing wasn't "poppy", but even though she was singing in English, I could still hear that Japanese flavor. I will check out more from this band! Thx 🌀

I really love that one, they recently went more in the Nu Metal / Pop direction, but this one is just fantastic. Since we're quite proggy now, I'd recommend checking out Zettai Club: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--NrVwg9lDpw.html they unfortunately already split up, but they were also quite amazing. Oh, and of course a reminder for Gacharic Spin's new song, I Wish I ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--R6Nrr_omjE.html and the new album was released today as well, unfortunately I'll have to wait three days for another CD to release, otherwise shipping costs will be too high ;))

1. From the first listen to this song it seemed very progressive to me, but make no mistake, the other songs they have released this year are shorter and more straightforward: Daybrake ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fiRMlf36ZtE.html & Bloody Bride ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CN3KDIBdosQ.html. 2. About Kimi's vocals ... her case is very similar to those of Saiki in Band-Maid or Keiko Terada in Show-Ya, a singer with a pop voice tone, in a hard rock band... no problem for me.😉

You know everybody sings about it, but it doesn't do much about it, the Philippine people just voted for president they got a guy named bong bong his daddy was just like Hitler when he was president of the Philippines in the 80s he stole 64 billion dollars from the Philippines in gold put the Philippines under martial law For 9 year and killed over 75,000 people and they voted for his son to be president his daddy was exiled to Hawaii where he sent the gold instead of killing him and his wife they got 35 billion back and lost the rest of it now his son is president haha and you believe that he said they need to sell more people to other countries that way they can make more money now he's talking to China
