1. Add a draw bar on the outside of the gate. Adds support if Daisy pushes on it and also prevents gate from opening 2. Double up with a simple Carabiner snap hook for the latch 3. Get a Ring camera / flood light for Daisy barn
I cried when Daisy arrived. Such a baby, no mom and everything so strange and new. So good to see she is not stressed out. Such a big day for Bella -- and you too! It looks like they will get along well.
You might want to put a carabiner on the latches too. Nice hay box. Don't forget Daisy's water bucket! Now I have to wag my finger at you - never tell the world at large when you are going away and for how long. That's asking for trouble. Let the world know after you're home. Daisy is so cute! Definitely a fence that follows the slope of the land. I grew up on a dairy farm, and that's how all the fences were built. A nice natural flow. And it also means that the fence is always the same height above the land. (Can't terrace an entire farm :) Hopefully you will be able to grow grass in her paddock, for her to munch on also. My grandparents had a milk cow called Daisy, and she was a character that's for sure. Cows are quite lovely.

What a blessing to receive that refund check from the IRS just when you needed that money. God sure knows how to provide! I am so glad everything went well with Daisy's transport to Skyridge. I got a kick out of Bella running from Daisy. 😄 I definitely thought it would have been the other way around. I truly think Bella and Daisy are going to be the best of friends, though. Daisy is adorable…and much more petite than I expected! Your money story brought back memories. When I was in college, I got a bill for $87. I had absolutely no money to pay it. None. I went to the mailbox and I had some sort of a refund check for $90. Enough to pay the bill and buy myself a cup of coffee! The Lord always provides! May He bless your family and homestead!
Bella wants most to be by you and to please you, so if you spend a lot of time with Daisy, that will force Bella to come near HER to be by YOU. She will follow her pack leader and that is you

Sometimes, even when you bring your new baby home, it takes some adjusting for the others. I’m sure in no time Daisy and d Bella will be best buds. It takes some time. Love the hay feeder. Daisy is so cute. Remember Bella’s still a baby herself. Just keep bring Bella down to the corral with you. Bella will get it. Daisy is just bigger than anything she has seen in your yard. Bella will grow into her job. Daisy may be smaller than a regular cow, but she is strong. Adorable! What did the breeders have to say about all you built for her (and the rest of your awesome gardens)? They must be so happy to see how loved and well taken care of Daisy will be, I mean it's pretty obvious how well you take care of your place of your penchant for perfection (LOL). I have a suggestion regarding the bedding. I have a horse, not a cow but for years we have used a combination of pellet pine bedding which expands when wet along with small shavings. It’s going to be a lot easier to scoop and preferable to wet straw, in my opinion

You can use the latch system you have, just swap how they’re mounted. Put the latch part on the gate and the bar that the latch holds on the post above the 2x6. That way the gate can swing inward and when it closes it will latch on the outside and it’ll be braced by the 2x6

Electric tape works better than electric string for cows. However…your decision is a good one. I had a calf that kept getting through my fences. By the time her sister was born, I was told by several farmers that the calf getting out needed to go in the freezer. She was old enough, but not as big as I wanted, but after the fifth time getting out and possibly teaching her sister to do the same, we took the farmers advice. A Dexter as well. Her meat has been amazing! Enjoy! Good job getting infrastructure done first. Also, they can move back and forward so no need to turn around. Training to a stanchion early is also a great idea. 👍

I can't believe how much you got built in such a short amount of time. I think the sloped metal in the feeder is a good idea and just shows your attention to detail. As for the fence, it should follow the slope of the land. If you stair-step it, there will be gaps between the fence and the ground at each fence post.
Such a delight to see Daisy arrive. So heartwarming. Bella is young but will in time adjust. We have uneven property which we built a fence around like what you described you wanted to build. We measured the height we wanted then from one end to the other strung a cord. That way we were able to keep the top even. We buried the bottom of the wire fencing by 6-8 inches because of our dogs wanting to dig under. That stopped that. The visual looks even on the top edge but gives a gentle slope. Hope all goes well. BRIAN -- What are you going to do if Dasie hops inside the feeder box, gets her legs tangled in the corrugated tin and cuts herself all up? Dairy farm cows have a V-shaped head entry to their feeder which blocks the shoulders (and the rest of the cow) from getting out of control. These are useful if you need a vet to tend to any injuries., as it can lock-in their head/neck and prevents them from injuring someone by backing up unexpectedly or from kicking.They are animals and don't think like you do and they can do crazy things. Even though she's small (and not a dog), she's will be stronger than you imagine. With her adult weight, she could easily push over your fencing if she got frisky. That's why many dairy farmers use steel fencing poles and gates. Cows can jump quite high or will put their head down and try to go through lower spaces. I watch THE INCREDIBLE DOCTOR POL and see them do this all the time and get injured. Although the wood fencing appeals to your aesthetics, I'm not sure it's practical if you have a cow + calf operation. Wood breaks under pressure and splinters, where steel doesn't.
