Embraces the colours, history, legacy, anthem and everything about the Fitzroy Lions, because they know how invaluable that was to their team. Guess what it rankles the Broncos and they hate it, now your relying on online gambling to keep the team afloat. Shame on Kevin Walters accepting that cash payment on the show. A disgrace.

I agree, I think the NRL fucked up by creating the GC titans, they should have just brought the South QLD Crushers back instead because the crushers could have been the second brisbane team aswell as the gold coast team, it would have solved two problems with one fix. He was a great player for all the clubs he represented as well as NSW, QLD and Aust. And also a great administrator. Super League was the ultimate "winner" of this period and ushered in a great period of prosperity and growth for the game. Something that would never have happened with more stagnation under Arthurson and co.

Broncos should never have been allowed to join the elite NSWRL that was built and designed by teams like Balmain Tigers, Newtown Jets, Western Suburbs Magpies, Eastern Suburbs Roosters, South Sydney Rabbitohs and North Sydney Bears. The foundation clubs of NSWRL should’ve told all the other Sydney clubs that formed as a byproduct from Foundation Teams such as Manly Sea Eagles 🦅 we’re byproduct of expansion from Bears. Shut up or you will be dumped in junior competition. That all QLD should build its own league and only a State of Origin should include QLD team. The Brisbane Broncos wanted to be reinstated and then destroyed the league and they have ever since the inception of Melbourne Storm. With all there bullshit destroyed the game. you do realise he was the original CEO of the Broncos hense the shares in the club but when he left he had to sell them . Also a second team in Brisbane you seemed to forgot about the Crushers they lasted 2 yrs and went broke because no one supported them a second team in Brisbane wont work

rushbeat14 how did he try ad destroy the Rabbitohs? At the time they were completely broke the juniors distanced themselves from them they were very poorly run even you can admit that. SL had all the right ideas but was done poorly.

poitty1978 In 1999 souths were not broke.They were travelling nicely in the top 8 with a good side that was very competitive and then after a good win against the Newcastle Knights they cited Dally M leader Darrel Trindall for a questionable tackle that nobody saw on the field and gave him a ridiculous 8 week suspension which killed our season. Nobody remembers that but Ribot was behind the scenes as one of the prime movers to have a reason to kick us out which they did. I was at a game a couple of weeks later at the SFS v the Broncos and there were 25,000 people there mainly to follow Souths. How a team that can generate that support was kicked out is beyond me.

I dont remember the tackle from Tricky Trindall only Souths fans would remember a ridiculous decision against their side. I do believe it was a wrong decision to kick them out but something has to be done to make the game stronger and the only way to do that now is to make teams relocate or go under

Also Ribot bordered on being extremely rude to him at 8:39 suggesting "what would you know about running a business or being a success".... He almost said it but dropped it at the last moment. Mario's complaints that Ribot had a conflict of interest with the broncos and hypocrisy of breaking ARL contracts then enforcing the same contracts for Superleague had merit.

+tw25rw We lost our team because of the ARL ''boys club'' Winfield hand shakes. I'm talking about North Sydney Bears who decided to ''stay loyal'' whatever that meant. Norths went anti tobacco and embarrassed the boys club and were marked. If Norths weren't loyal and had gone to Superleague they'd still be around and Manly wouldn't have got the Norths Leagues club money to help save them. In 1994 Penrith junior league had 20,000 playing every weekend, Ribot and his cronies nearly destroyed Rugby League and it's effects are still being felt today.

I wanted NRL to go broke & NSWRL to reform and players going back to working for a living and playing the game as a side event. Then NSWRL clubs especially the foundation clubs will rule the roost. Those idiots should speak to the forefathers (dead) their image and expectations.

The comp is better now i agree totally and the game is faster and more even with the salary cap but there are still problems like lower than expected crowds for a lot of big games. Poor Mario wears his heart on his sleeve and he calls it as he sees it without a bachelor degree to back him up. Ribot on the other hand has disappeared off the planet. Nobody mentions him anymore but i will certainly remember him after Souths win the grand final and i first urinate my victory celebrations!

yep same here, was 14 when this all went down, at the time hated Super League thought it was the devil, in hindsight it was exactly what the game needed and if it happened all again now I would support it

You want to see what happens when you professionalize the game you get 20 year veterans who keep playing because they got no hope after league. Let’s have a biff on TV Paul Gallen & Sonny Bill Williams and pay them $4 million each so they can have a nest egg. Players like Sonny Bill Williams turned the game into a business where they only sign up play one game and get 1 million for coming off the bench. This caused clubs to go broke fast. The money from Online Gambolling, commercial advertising, TV Rights will never justify those bold heads getting million dollars. It’s just caused clubs to keep paying players that are injured for the whole season and only perform one year before there season is expected to end. NRL should’ve gone to the toilet & NSWRL take over and leave QLDRL to fight it’s own fight. See what Super league wanted to do was have Brisbane Broncos style club in Sydney. The rest of Sydney clubs relegated to a 2nd tier competition. That was the aim by Sydney Roosters to change their name to make themselves the only Sydney team.
