"Bless your heart" *~can* often be used sarcastically, as an insult, but not always, just as any phrase can be. Most of the time it is genuinely meant in a caring way, so what Mark is saying should be taken with some salt.
@OkiePeg411
@OkiePeg411 2 месяца назад
I'd say 9x out of 10 it would be a sarcastic insult. Often times, the one insulted is so dumb they don't even realize they've been insulted!!! The insult is usually delivered in a higher pitched voice with a smile!!! 😅 "Why... Bless yo're heart!!!"
@brianlewis5692
@brianlewis5692 2 месяца назад
@@OkiePeg411 It's no different to the phrase "That's so cute" ...it really depends on the circumstance. If someone is being obnoxious, then "bless your heart" would of course be sarcastic, but I don't agree with 9/10. It depends on each situational use individually. What we don't want to do is create a trope out of this phrase and cause people who are unfamiliar with it to always associate it in a negative way. That's simply not true.

@@OkiePeg411Flip that ratio and then it would be correct.

Grits are basically ground hominy corn. The best is course ground hominy with butter, cheese salt, and pepper. But our town has been blessed with an authentic Cajun restaurant that makes the most AMAZING shrimp and grits. I live in rural Oklahoma... o you might wonder how we ended up with an AUTHENTIC Cajun restaurant??? Remember when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans? Many people from there were moved all over the region to be able to help them? We welcomed many refugees, and there were a couple of brothers among them. They opened a small Cajun restaurant that was an instant hit, and people traveled from Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, just to eat here!!! Just a month ago, they opened their new restaurant, which is 6x the size of their original building!!! When they opened that new building, there was a waiting list just to be able to eat there.

The "Bless your heart" can actually be a positive expression. It's all in the delivery and context, lol. Grits is coarsely ground corn. I personally don't like it as I'm not a fan of the texture.

The shrimp he showed that was just piled on the table was a low country boil. It typically has the boiled shrimp with potatoes and small chunks of corn on the cob. It can have other things too but normally it’s not too spicy

I’m an Air Force brat so I’m not originally from the south. I was born in northern Michigan and spent the beginning of my elementary school in Nebraska and my family was transferred to South Georgia when I was in the second grade so about 8 years old and I didn’t grow up going to church every week. And when we got to Georgia the very first thing anyone asks you when they meet you is, what church do you go to? And it’s always followed with, oh, you’ve got to try mine! It’s the best!

'Grits' is (are) a catch-all name for a variety of ground corn dishes. It's a process: the corn kernels are treated in an alkaline solution, usually lye, which causes the kernels to puff-up, doubling in size. This is called hominy (or hominy-grits.) In Mexico, it is called nixtamal, or pozole. The kernels are then dried. In the States, these dried kernels are coarsely ground into a mixture that resembles other grain dishes, such as rolled oats or farina ('cream of wheat.') In Mexico, the dried corn is ground into a flour/dough called masa, or masa harina, which forms the basis for traditional Mexican cuisine, from tortillas to tamales to enchiladas to sopes to chalupas and so on. In the States, these ground corm kernels are cooked in salted water until soft and tender, usually until a porridge-like viscosity has been achieved. Grits are a Southern staple, served hot, as breakfast fare with butter and syrup (usually Karo-brand corn syrup) or served-up for brunch, lunch or dinner or an elegant supper, from the most humble to the most sophisticated dishes. Grits with shrimp Creole, crawfish or shrimp Étouffée, mixed with a sharp and savory cheese sauce ("cheesy grits.") and many other ways (nearly limitless variations.) There are both white and yellow grits, due to the variety of corn. I prefer yellow grits, as they are heartier, in my subjective opinion. NOTE: No self-respecting Southern chef or homemaker would ever serve instant grits (like instant oatmeal.) NEVER. Grits are am institution in the South, a way of life. And I love them (and I live in the Northeast, in the State of Connecticut.) Below is a link and a possible video recommendation for your channel. Traditional grits in the American South. A beautiful technique: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V6R-80q0kQQ.html

"Grits" is ground white corn from hominy. Hominy is a special large-kerneled white corn. Corn is a New World Indigenous food item found throughout North, Central, and South America.
@JustMe-dc6ks

It’s the nixtimalization that makes the kernels of hominy big and puffy. Before that it’s just corn. So corn to hominy to grits to specific dishes like cheese grits or shrimp and grits.

Not massive parking in America for most places. Even major cities, most businesses have their own or it’s street parking. If you see something huge it’s usually for a shopping center with multiple businesses sharing that space.

A dry county is a county where no alcohol is sold and you cannot drink it. A moist country is where you can drink alcohol but you cannot buy it. A wet county is a country where drinking and buying alcohol is perfectly legal. For example, the Jack Daniels Distillery is in a dry county in Tennessee and the company had to special permission to sell bottles of whiskey. People who visit the place can drink on the property and buy one bottle to take home with them, but no one can drink it in that county. Drinking your bottle of Jack in that county is highly illegal and as a foreigner you do not want to mess with American laws. Getting arrested will wreck your US trip and it could lead to losing your chance to visit the US again.

It is definitely NOT like getting sand in your mouth. I can only assume that some people have tried grits that were not properly prepared. Bless their hearts!
