China uses conscripts which are basically forced service. The US has a professional volunteer army. North Korea has a lot of low tonnage out dated ships. Russia has a lot of old shit. Also keep in mind Americans are armed so if someone invades good luck.

The Chinese military also doesn’t have any real combat experience, besides it’s navy harassing Philippine fishing boats, and getting in first fights with India in Kashmir. America on the other hand has been involved in much more major conflicts in the past few decades than any other country

I don't see the U.S.A. ever being invaded by a military. The first reason why is we are too far away from anyone. No other country has the ships to reach the United States main land. The second reason is that our population has too many guns. We most likely wouldn't even need our military to help.

I can’t really say that any of my fellow Americans want to fight in a war. On the other hand, I can say with certainty that if push came to shove, Americans generally would do whatever is necessary to defend our country.
@TheMcStoners
@TheMcStoners 2 месяца назад
Agreed. The motivation to defend is often stronger than the impulse to attack it seems. For instance, public opposition would likely be significant if we were to initiate a large-scale conflict. However, if we were attacked, I believe the majority would support a defensive response, except perhaps some extremists. That said, I've heard from friends and family about individuals in the military who seem to seek out confrontation as well.

This reminds me of The movie 300 King Leonidas meets with soldiers from another Greek city-state. He asks several of them what their professions are back home, and they provide answers like potter, sculptor, and blacksmith. After hearing their responses, Leonidas turns to his own men, all Spartan warriors, and says: "Spartans, what is your profession?" To which his soldiers respond in unison with a war cry: "Aroo! Aroo! Aroo!" Leonidas then turns back to the representatives of the other city-states and states confidently, "You see, old friend, I brought more soldiers than you did."

19:16 there are 2 main reasons that Americans will fight. First, is to defend themselves, their loved ones, an innocents, or their property (especially the country). the Second is for a 'good' and 'moral' cause, saving children, saving allies, saving innocents, to prevent genocide. ect... So, having these reasons to fight, this is why Americans (not just military) will keep fighting until their last breath to win the conflict. it's also why the military is voluntary only (for now) and is still so large. people WANT to join to do good in the world. it's also why there are so MANY American volunteer groups that help around the world.

From the US, here's something you probably haven't thought about...Most Americans also have a full set of gear you would be surprised to see in a home. We also have body armor, full battle gear, and our firearms, with packs that are ready at a moment's notice. I work in a place that sells most of this stuff, and the amount that is being bought daily is surprising. We are ready and will defend our country.

@@alligoetz1584 It definitely depends on region a lot, but the vast majority of people don't live in highly armed (relatively speaking) areas. Rural areas tend to be more armed, and regardless we have way more guns than people and the average number of guns owned by a gun owner is significantly more than one. (As of a 2017 survey, two thirds of gun owners have more than one gun, and apparently there were over 7 million people who own between eight and 140 guns in 2016 based on surveys, the finding being that 3% of people owned around half the guns in the country)

If it came to it, even non-ex-military would take up their arms, and organize into militias led by ex-military commanders. There are over 400 million guns out here with about half of the population armed. With motivation to protect our own families and property... it's a lot. The only way we would fall would be either from within or a full nuclear exchange, end-of-the-world, apocalyptic scenario. This is why we must never allow Iran to attain the capability to launch a nuclear strike. It wouldn't be in the form of a missile that we could easily detect, and intercept, but a cargo ship with 1 very dangerous container on board. They can detonate it at an American harbor before inspection. Unlike Ukraine for example, there isn't a land bridge for our enemies to roll tanks and march massive armies to. There could be some paratroopers. but their numbers would be tiny. They could try and push some hidden units through the security gaps along the southern border, but even if they ran a huge campaign, they still would not be able to sneak APC'S or tanks through.

It is true that the US is very divided politically today. I have an old friend that I went to high school with (class of 1969), and we both spent some time in the army. We are completely opposed on virtually any political or governmental policy and other than the occasional insult on Facebook, we don't talk anymore. But make no mistake, should someone ever decide to attack the US, there would be two old fat guys standing shoulder to shoulder. Look to history. In 1941 the US was bitterly divided and the majority felt we should stay out of the war. That division went away after the attack on Pearl Harbor. You can visit the USS Arizona, the USS Missouri and the USS Oklahoma today. They serve two purposes; a memorial for the men who died and a reminder to always be ready.

It's true there are ideological differences here in the US and we fight amongst ourselves constantly. However, it's sort of like sibling rivalry. Interest on the national debt is basically equal to inflation. You can own some of that national debt by buying US bonds, and it's the "safe" investing that is recommended to retirees, because it generally provides less benefit than investing in the stock market, but is more stable- the US will pay you a guaranteed 2-3%, while the stock market will pay ~6-8%, but you have the risk of bear periods like 2008 or 2020, where cashing out stocks will net you a loss (or a bigger loss if you bet on individual stocks that do terribly). Meanwhile, the dollar loses 2-3% of it's value annually (slightly more during/post COVID, but it's back to 3-4% now and has mostly stabilized). Holding US debt keeps you essentially even or only barely ahead in money, and the US borrows money in today's money and pays out in future USD, so the money it pays out is worth less than the money it borrows, and the "interest" is essentially free.

As an American i can state with confidence, you british blokes are some of our favorite people. I can also say we often times disagree, but if attacked we are one people and we will all fight, every one of us to defend our freedom. It's just in our blood.

Nothing's changed. We've never agreed. We have our own opinions. It is what makes us Americans. Nothing's changed. The news. The. Internet. Has blown it all out of proportion. When have we ever agreed on politics. Seriously. William s

Our political parties have always been at each other's throats since the very beginning nothing has changed in this country and nothing will change to be honest.

The only real problem I see with this country is the ever changing media. It influences even the most oblivious of people, and just like politics it always has and always will.

I'm so glad they brought up the will to fight. It's one of those intangible factors that are essential. That's why disinformation and espionage are so powerful. With the internet an idea or a misconception can spread life wildfire. I think the divide between political parties will never overcome our collective desire to keep the lifestyle that America provides but, complicated issues that are inherent to every day life, like how our tax money is spent, what should be taught in schools, and what choices women should have over their bodies will always be debated. It's literally impossible to have that many people agree 100% on any of those kinds of nuanced issues.

My brother in law was a head designer/engineer making the Sea Wolf class submarines. Only 3 were made too $$$$$ but are still considered the best subs produced

I am an American. When I was going through school we pledged allegiance to our country's flag every day. It was not just a thing we did. We were taught from a very young age to respect our country, our forefathers in this country, our rights as Americans, and the privileges that come along with that. I love being an American. I in no way am putting other countries down. However, I would never call another country home.
