Allegiant Stadium does not meet FIFA's field requirements. Unofficially, I'm guessing that FIFA is happy not to be associated with Sin City. College stadiums (many over 100,000 capacity) would never be considered. Lacking infrastructure -- locations, transportation, hotels, parking, seating, amenities. Most college towns are off the beaten path from the major cities, relatively speaking.

FIFA has the stink of corruption following it everywhere it goes already; they certainly don’t need to be associated with Vegas 😂

USA did use college stadiums back in 1994. Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Stanford Stadium, and Citrus Bowl were all hosts.

We can't have any association with anything so unsavory as gambling. That might lead to corruption, and we all know *THAT* is not part of FIFA's core brand. Snark notwithstanding, I think you are precisely correct. And the other commenter's observation was historically correct. However, most of the stadia he listed were either in/near big cities, as you astutely noted must be a prerequisite. Furthermore, the economics of football are different today to those of 1994.

BC Place and BMO Field have both hosted FIFA finals before. Vancouver hosted the Final of the 2015 Women's World Cup. Toronto hosted the Final of the 2007 Men's U-20 World Cup, and the 2014 Women's U-20 World Cup.

I remember when the USA was going to host the Rugby league World Cup 2025 but pulled out. A sport like Rugby league wouldn't even get 1000 fans at the stadium unless it was heavily, heavily promoted. Allegiant recently hosted an Australian NRL game and got 40k but most of the fans were travelling Australians. Maybe 5000 or less were Americans.

England has to qualify first…LOL Seriously though, our World Cup is going to be broken into three regions: West, Central and East so travel for the group stages and early knockouts will not be ridiculous. The traveling will happen when they get to the last 8 teams standing with QFs in Kansas City, Miami, Boston and Los Angeles, semifinals in Dallas and Atlanta (yes, it’s going to be VERY hot down here so drink water!!), third place in Miami and the Final in NY/NJ.

An important note with Toronto’s stadium is that football (soccer) is roughly the 5th most popular sport in the area, so building a massive soccer stadium wouldn’t have made much sense
@janfitzgerald3615

That picture of Lumen Field is old, it still says Century Link on the roof. There will be six matches played in Seattle. “ FIFA officially released the highly anticipated match schedule for FIFA World Cup 26™, revealing that Seattle will host six matches, including welcoming the US Men’s National team. The six games include four group-stage matches and two knock-out round matches. This announcement marks a historic moment for the city, placing Seattle and Washington State at the center of the global soccer stage. “We’re thrilled to welcome FIFA World Cup 26 for six matches in Seattle, including the honor of hosting our US Men’s National team on Juneteenth,” said Peter Tomozawa, CEO of SeattleFWC26. “We have a global opportunity to showcase the vibrancy of our city and state, and we are excited for game time!” “United States Men’s National Team Head Coach Gregg Berhalter is equally excited about the opportunity to play FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in Seattle. A veteran of both MLS and the USMNT as a player and coach, Berhalter has witnessed the unique soccer environment in the Emerald City on numerous occasions. “Every time you go there, you have this special feeling,” said Berhalter. “The stadium was built for noise. It was built as an echo chamber to create this incredibly loud atmosphere when the fans start cheering. I mentioned about game two being a pivotal game in the group stage, and it absolutely is. And that’s why I feel really comfortable about us going up to Seattle and leveraging the 12th man in Seattle to get behind us and help us to victory.”

LA to Vancouver BC is a big flight. You have different time-zone & different countries. That just crazy. I can see teams/countries being base in certain areas. Cities split into 3 regions: the Western (Vancouver, Seattle, San Fran, LA), the Central (Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City), & the Eastern (Atlanta, Miami, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, New York/New Jersey). Don't forget that the competition is going to be extended to 48 teams/countries. That will be 16 teams/countries in the 1 region. The potential for F' up is going to be increased. What happens if we are in WW3?

The English Premier League just released a report on where their fans live. The second largest fan base for EPL is the United States. Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham all have huge fan clubs here in the US. There's a reason why the teams play "friendly" games in the US every summer. Ryan Reynolds purchase of Wrexham, Ted Lasso, Lionel Messi playing for Miami, Jon Bon Jovis ownership of the Philadelphia Union, Beckham's ownership of Miami are listed as reasons why the US is fertile ground for soccer's increased interests. Consider MLB is going through massive pains to stop the erosion of fans, the NFLs complicity in head and brain injuries, high schools are turning more and more for soccer. While the USMNT has a lot to improve upon, the Women's National Team still commands a huge following with the women of this country. For people to say that the US doesn't care about soccer means they haven't been watching their fellow countrymen and women. Preschooler, elementary schools, soccer fields are filled with people learning about the game. Every time Manchester City plays, bars in every city have their games on the TV. Soccer players have fewer head injuries, keep fit for the rest of their lives, have morality clauses that support healthy families and communities. When was the last time a soccer player was arrested for dog fighting? Murder?
