On September 30, 2021, the german Engineer Bridge Battalion 130
(Panzerpionierbataillon 130) and the UK 23 Amphibious Engineer Squadron were reorganized into a new unit. For the first time in the history of the Bundeswehr, a german and a UK battalion was launched: the DEU/GBR Amphibious Engineer Battalion 130 in Minden (Germany).
For this event and the military ceremony, the British Army band Catterick travelled to Germany. Enjoy them playing. Also the German Army Band "Heeresmusikkorps Hannover" you will find in this video with the "Regimentsgruß" march and the national anthem of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Also der Florentiner march and the Arromanches march will be played and you can enjoy, of course, "God save the queen"

Colin Elliott before William the Conquerer, well ... conquered England, a Germanic tribe called the Anglo-Saxons ruled over it. The kings prior to Wiiliam were mostly of anglo-saxon descent. The Anglo-Saxons are relatives of the Angles and the Saxons, two germanic tribes who lived in the area of northern Germany modern day Denmark. After 1066 William replaced most nobles by normanic ones, but most simple man stayed anglo-saxon. That is why you often have two completely different words with the same meaning in english. A very good example are types of meat and the animals they derive from. The cow (German Kuh) becomes beef. The anglo-saxon farmer would use the anglo-saxon (and thus germanic) word cow to describe his cattle, while the Norman nobility would eat the meat and call it beef (boef in French)

Translation : From my point of view, it is optimal when soldiers from different countries who have the same task work together in mixed units. First, everyone can learn from each other, second, friendships form and friends don't shoot friends. And for the good of all there are more meaningful tasks than waging war. In addition, everyone gets to know the cultures and ideas of others.

Well, the Saxons that went to England with the Angles where not the Saxons of todays Saxony. The origional Saxons of that time lived in nothern Germany - in todays Schleswig- Holstein und Niedersachsen - hence the name of the latter. The name then traveled with the titel Duke of Saxony. Quote Wikipedia "After the fall of Henry the Lion in 1180, the title of Duke of Saxony fell to the Ascanian Bernhard, who resided in Wittenberg. At this point in time, the title of "Duke" in the German Empire lost its ties to a people's territory. When the Ascanians died out, the Saxon title of duke passed to the Wettins in 1423, who held the margraviate of Meißen, which was in what is now the Free State of Saxony. Since the title of Duke of Saxony was associated with the dignity of an elector, it was the highest in rank and took the first place in the title. "Saxony" was used to describe the states under the rule of the Wettin house of the Dukes of Saxony. In this way, with the award of the Saxon electoral dignity to Friedrich the arguable, the name “Saxony” also “migrated” up the Elbe."

The last time British and German armies fought together was at Waterloo, the King's German Legion from Hanover, Brunswickers in their black uniforms, who were mainly boys and the Nassauers who had been with Napoleon for most of the Napoleonic wars but switched sides at Waterloo and were placed with the Dutch Belgian Units, who had also switched sides. The Prussians who had been beaten at the battle of Ligny by the French, were racing across to Waterloo, to pay back the French, which eventually finished Napoleon and his Grand army. That is if you if do not class the Boxer revolution in China, when a lot of Western countries joined to quell it.

@@vanpallandt5799 Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse-Kassel signed so-called subsidy treaties with his brother-in-law, King George III of Great Britain, on January 15, 1776. According to these treaties, the Hessian sovereign undertook to provide Great Britain with a contingent of soldiers on a permanent basis, with a total troop strength of about 12,000 men. According to historical sources from the region, the contingent consisted of 15 infantry regiments, 4 grenadier battalions, 2 companies of Feldjägers and the artillery corps. To these were later added three companies of Feldjäger on foot and one on horseback. In all, about 19,000 soldiers were leased from Hesse-Kassel to Great Britain during the course of the American War of Independence. Hessian troop strength in North America during the course of the war was always between 10,000 and 12,000 men, making up about one-third of the total contingent of British troops in the North American colonies. I'd argue the history between Germany and France has been much more unfortunate than that between Germany and Britain. And furthermore, the French did suffer much more from it than the Brits did. Yet, the French and the Germans integrated an entire brigade like that and nobody bats an eye. Due to this Germans are marching down l'avenue de Champs Elysées alongside their French Comrades every year, in some years even accompanied by planes of the Luftwaffe joining the French in the air. When Germans were invited to celebrate in Britain back in 2015 you had all sorts of demeaning comments and attempts at controversy - just like here with Brits freaking out over a single Squadron being attached to a German batallion while it is stationed in Germany.
