OB Daz and Aidan react to some of the most brutal hits in college football. Link to original video: • College Football hits ... instagram: officeblokedaz
Millions of us played football from youth, junior high, and high school football. Some of us played in college. We are taught from youth football onwards to give out and receive extreme punishment on "every" play. And we all learned to bounce back up and continue playing. (We use to love looking at the colors from other teams' helmets on our helmets.) That's why the players in the videos all look like machines going to battle on every play. .... In spite of what the video title says, it was much more violent in 1970s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s before the rules changes. And, we used to do this to each other on the playgrounds and backyards every week.
Never been to war but gameday in football definitely seemed like you were going to war in a sense. There is more of a brotherhood in football than any other sport.
That last one was Jadeveon Clowney. He played High School just 30 min. from where I live so I was aware of him early on. He was a beast. I was delighted when he announced he was going to my beloved University Of South Carolina. The back story to that play, refered to as "The Hit", is that on the previous play it was 4th down. Michigan ran the ball and it was too close to call so they brought out the chains. When they measured it it was blatantly obvious the bell was short. The ref signaled 1st down. What you saw was the very next play from scrimmage. Thats why you hear the announcer say "South Carolina deserves to have it, and they do!"
I use to live in Columbia for a couple years during the pandemic (just moved back to my hometown of Atlanta last year). Loved the reverence that people had for Clowney and many athletes who played at USC even til this day.
Sup guys love the channel. I played American football through college and after a while you get conditioned to the hits. When you hit someone it hurts and when you get hit it hurts but you’re taught from pee wee football all the way to the pros to always get up if you can. No matter what.
What makes the last play by Clowney so great was the on the previous play Michigan was gifted a complete bs call by the refs. SC coach flipped the f out and Clowney held him back and told him I got this coach...then went out and did that!
7:00 That definitely happens occasionally, but if it effects you to the point where it changes your style of play its typically the beginning of the end of your playing the sport. It happens to everyone eventually in this game, and the ones who can't have amnesia about it just stop playing very quickly and dont make it to the higher levels. If you hesitate in this game you are just asking to get hurt worse.
Go to an LSU game. We are known for our epic tailgating. Just walk around campus and people will invite you into their tailgate party and give you some jambalaya and beer. You couldn’t ask for a better atmosphere. Try to go when they play another SEC team like Alabama, Florida, Auburn, or Ole Miss.
I've commented before that I wish someone would take them to a night game in Death Valley. I think Daz would love it, especially if he's treated to the all-day tailgate.
JD Clowney is from my home state of South Carolina. An absolute freakish athlete and that hit was one of the greatest ever because of how incredibly fast he got into the backfield and the impact was like being in a car crash. But what was most impressive is that Clowney was so unfazed by the impact that he instantly grabbed the football with his left hand and started to run. Finally that hit literally came just one play after South Carolina clearly stopped Michigan from getting a first down, and although they measured it and it was shown on television to be inches short, the ref signaled First Down for Michigan anyway. The very next play Clowney took the ball back himself with the biggest hit of the season and SC won the game.
Penn State (PSU) is a great college atmosphere (110,000 record attendance) and very close to both New Jersey/New York. They play both Ohio State and Michigan this year.
@jasonraines8282 Not anymore. When USC and UCLA join the Big Ten in 2024, Penn State will not be guaranteed to play Ohio State or Michigan every season like in years past with the divisional set-up. They will only play Ohio State in 2024. In fact, Penn State isn't guaranteed annual games with any Big Ten team as they will be the only school in the conference without at least one protected "rivalry" school. So this is literally the last season for the guaranteed games against both OSU and Michigan.
Jadaveon Clowney in the last one--6'6", 270lbs, 4.5 sec in the 40 yard dash. I think he was the first player selected overall in his draft year. Had injury problems in the pros, but still and excellent pro career. Is a free agent this year---some team will get a freak.
I wouldn't call his career excellent. He has had a solid career but he has never come close to being worth that 1st overall pick. He wasn't a bust but his career has played out more like a good mid to late 2nd maybe even early 3rd rounder value wise.
@@A_Name_ A pass rusher of his talent would still be a first round pick even with the uneven career he has had. Just not first overall. He has had games where he dominated, just not nearly enough of them and like a lot of hugely talented pass rushers (Jevon Kearse) coming out of college the injuries accumulated playing against massive NFL linemen every week prevented him from living up to his ability. In Texas he and J.J. Watt should have been the scariest D-Line duo in NFL history, but they could hardly keep them on the field at the same time because of injuries.
@@saintsataniko2116 knowing what we know now only an idiot would spend a first on him. The best attribute a player can have is being on the field, he couldn't do that and even when he could he wasn't dominant like watt was. Watt even with injuries was still worth a first because he was insane. Clowney was just good, good + injuries = ok.
7:30 I only played up to high school but after getting your bell rang, some people do become more tentative moving forward. But most people who choose to play are warriors (even the kickers and punters 😂), they’ll brush it off and resume normal play.
For best games to watch this year - Michigan is playing at Penn State Nov 11, Ohio State at Michigan Nov 25, LSU at Alabama Nov 4, Georgia at Tennessee Nov 11 Would love to see a game at Penn State or Michigan myself. Tennessee might be the third choice here, idk...
UNFORTUNATELY, they have OUTLAWED these types of HITS, because TOO MANY players, were getting REALLY hurt BAD. Bring BACK the good Old days of the BIG hits !
Daz the college you are probably thinking of near east orange New Jersey is either Seton Hall and Or Rutgers which is in New Brunswick. Also a great college football environment is Penn State Hands down on of the best places to watch a game in the country
I was waiting for the hit Javon Bullard put on Marvin Harrison in last years Peach Bowl game-crazy good hit knocked the receiver out and saved the game for Georgia.
You can cause a QB to second guess himself and be a beat late following a mistake, but not sure much more is impacted. Basketball you can really take a team's aggression away when you are deflecting passes or taking charges. That's a big reason the Miami Heat were in the NBA Finals this year.
Yes! Yes! Yes! NFL is overrated and often preferred by foreigners, but if you really want to understand American football, you should deep dive into college football.
It's natural for players, especially Receivers, to want to be cautious when catching the ball in a dangerous area. Problem is, you have to play with a warrior mentality. If you don't catch a ball because you were scared of getting hit, you are 100% getting benched and you would lose A LOT of favor with the coaches.
Punching the ball out of the ball carrier's arms is a common thing in football now. Peanut Tillman who played for the Chicago Bears was an expert at it during his career and it's become technique that all defenders do now.
Go to a Tennessee volunteers home game. They have great tailgating, the best stadium, and the greatest food! Edit: not a Tennessee fan, UAB fan… But you can’t deny fax.
7:24 yeah sometimes hits like that makes a receiver have what we call gator arms, but most of the time that type of hit siesnt happen all that often to affect a receiver enough
In football your play can change from an injury for sure. You would see it more in the past with running backs that get knee injuries, a lot of times after that they aren't the same. You'll see some RBs that try to stay up forever and won't go down til 5 guys are hanging on them. After an injury sometimes they will drop down before the extra guys come to pile on.
Some players are fearless no matter how hard they get hit. Others start getting alligator arms and protect themselves. They call it a business decision.
I seriously suggest going to an LSU home game at some point. It’s the best tailgating in the country and has one of the biggest stadiums. There are usually double the people outside the stadium tailgating than inside watching the game. Plus just walking around people will give you free food (Cajun and creole food) and beer/drinks.. you won’t be disappointed
Big hits tend to be remembered in the game. If a receiver gets rocked extending for a catch the next one he might not really reach for. The next game he has probably forgotten and will go for it. When the QB gets hit a lot in the game they will generally start throwing the ball away sooner and not trying to extend the play. It really all depends on the players but, yeah big hits do make a difference.
That last play was amazing because The Refs made a Bad call that gave Michigan The Ball. When it was clear they didn't deserve it. So the very next play South Carolina's Defense got the ball back with that Hit.
It’s actually kinda interesting how some schools will specialize in one sport. Michigan Tech is right by Canada, even more north than Toronto and it’s only D1 team is their hockey team, and the people go mad for it. Wisconsin has a really good rowing team because the college is right between 2 lakes
In the US,football is played in the backyard at all ages wuthout pads or anything. In some case, growing up in apartment buildings without any grass, you played in the streets lol no bullshit. In any case, the reason they bounce back is from the years of conditioning as a child through trials and tribulations of playing backyard footbal all tge way to college football...its just in us 😊
We call the immediate “catch, turn, and hit” hospital balls. Hat the end of the day its the quarterbacks job not to deliver the pass that way and look to another route
If you ever get to go to a Ohio State v Michigan game you’ll love it. Especially now that they’re both good again. I am biased, as I am born a Buckeye.
Yes it changes the way you play. Its called "Alligator Arms" and some Wide Receivers, even in the NFL, will subconsciously protect themselves when going over the middle and short arm passes.
These hits do affect you. That is why the defense is coached to hit hard and make them remember. As a receiver and a quarterback or running back. You remember, but the higher you go the more you get somewhat immune, because it has happened enough times. Also, I have heard you two talking about this upcoming season and such about who one is choosing and such. I have a "fantasy league" that my family and I have been doing for 30ish years. Hit me up and I will explain it to you. It has helped us stay close and has made us big time fans of several teams.
You should definitely come to a University of Tennessee game. Tail gate from 9am - game time, Tennessee vs either bama or Georgia or Florida or even Bols vs Kentucky or Vs whoever. CNt go wrong with Neyland stadium in the fall. We start drinking and cooking bar bq around 10am and then goto the game at 3-8pm depending on the game. Then 6 hours of partying after the game. GO VOLS! GBO 🍊
5:37 Most of these guys made it to the league after college. Most recently is Devon Witherspoon from Illinois here (2023 draft back in April), he’s going to be good in the pros for sure.
Nice one mates! The one thing you don't see is the guy who has been hit rolling around the field like a petulant child as soccer players do at the slightest of contact!!! Cheers
sometimes the hit doesn't hurt as bad as it looks. Most of the time is just the sound of the shoulder pads and helmet clashing together that makes it sound harder than it is. That's what happens when a lot of the times where they get up immediately after the hit. The hit may not feel as bad as it sounds.
Most of these hits, the person who go hit doesn't really feel it. So it doesn't really affect your play, Bc you don't see it coming. Usually when someone gets hurt on a big hit its when their head hits the ground first or they get hit in the stomach and the wind is knocked out of them.
You can't play with fear. If you hesitate you get hurt. You must meet force with force. But yes you can tell when i guy loses his will to play and it becomes very obvious and the team will call you out for it so you either change get cut or quit
It all depends on the persons mentality and aggressiveness after taking a big hit . I’ve took a big hit in high school and next drive I gave the same guy a bigger hit. It all jus depends
In European soorts, people roll around on the ground, cuz their little toe feels sore... that goes against American morals... in the U.S, if you pretend to be hurt, you'll never live it down, in Europe, its applauded...
@@EMD1028lol Jk every star “whines” in the NBA even your favorite player so I guess if you like watching compilations of LeBron whining then he’s really on your mind
@@PHXNKVHXLIC not at all, I didn't make the compilation. I've watched a few compilations some called nba crybabies and LeBron seems to be featured more than other players. I'm sure you have seen him whine and doesn't even run back on defense and then points blame at his teammates. They all whine, he just doesn't more often.
American football players and rugby players are the same. We see pro rugby as a league comprised of NFL line backers and running backs. Pads don't matter....It's all about the man in the jersey.
If Ohio State's QB is near what they should be they are going to be tough -- loaded everywhere else. Geogia will be up there. They are breaking in a new QB too.
Daz, there are 128 Division I football teams. You picking Georgia because they won it last year is LAZY. Georgia is not the favorite to win their conference. Georgia is in the SEC (Southeastern Conference). This is the best/toughest conference is college football. Georgia is in the East division of the SEC, so they have Tennessee and Florida to fight for the East. The West of the conference is Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Texas A&M. Plus in 2024, Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC, and Clemson and Florida State may be joining the SEC the following year. Google search all college football National Champs, and you will see mostly SEC schools including Texas, Oklahoma, Clemson and Florida St. My point being Georgia is not a lock for it. As a matter of fact, Georgia is the underdog to win, because NO SCHOOL has ever won 3 consecutive National titles, unless you go back to the 1934,35 and 36 Minnesota teams, which was very questionable even back then.
