Some shots of the action at Glasgow Central in 1989. As well as Inter-City trains, 86, 90 & 87 101, there were lots of units whizzing in & out-303 & 318 EMUs and 101, 107 & 120 DMUs. The only traction still seen in Glasgow today are the 318s, everything else has been withdrawn or sent south, and even the 90s are on borrowed time in Anglia! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

I moved to Glasgow in 1988 and used to get these 303s from Shields East into central. Only one car was non smoking so it was always packed. I remember these old wrecks that did the Paisley canal line - 2 dead horse power and smoke everywhere!

I also worked on the footplate for a few years...i knew a lot of railway workers who joined temporary for a few months/years and just never left! They soon realised what a great job it was.....Not as good as BR days but is still a whole better than jobs in the outside world.....

Push-Pull on the West Coast had just became a thing then but they had a very limited number of DVTs, so most trains to/from Euston still had to make do with conventional loco haulage. By this time 156s had appeared on the Glasgow & South West line and where about to appear on East Kilbride & Kilamrnock routes. However, it was 1992/3 before they completely replaced 101s & 107s on the Shotts line. Class 101 duties at Central ended in 2000 and 303 duties ended in 2002.

There was still some unusual stock kicking about with Inter-City back then.....

it is quite rare to see an intercity train with no DVT
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus 3 года назад
The one arriving behind 87 101 was a Cross Country working and they never did use DVTs. The one behind the 90 with MkIII stock was a West Coast Euston service but at this time the DVT's were still to be introduced.

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus yes I mean the class 90
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus 3 года назад
@@IKK231 they were still to enter service.... Their construction allowed the InterCity sector to use less locomotives, the DVTs had a lower maintainence cost which saved them money.

No, the 314s dated from the late 1970s, just before the 315 started on the Great Eastern.....

For some strge reason the model makers never seem to do much in the way of EMUs....

Do you know when the First Gen DMU's were withdrawn I know 101's continued on the Paisley Canal and East Kilbride branches until 2001 but what about the 107's? Also when did the 320's first start entering service I read the first one arrived in November 1989 but didn't enter service until after the summer timetable in 1990 correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Mr G, i seem to recall the Scotrail 101's were still in use in 1994 (i have film of them at Paisley & other lines around Gasgow) and by around 1995/96 time were transfered south to the Manchester/North Wales areas. I seem to recall filming them in Manchester, the Strathclyde colours were very similar to the GMT colours. Back in 1988 when i had a trip filming around Manchester there were a couple of ex Glasgow 303 units running on the Hadfield line, also still in Strathclyde colours. As for the 320s, i first videoed them in 1993 when i was loco bashing around Scotland but i hadn't been since 1990 when i was chasing Routemasters around the place!

I've deffinatley seen photos of 101's in Glasgow from 2001
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus

In that case it was other 101s rounded up and used in the North West. i'll have to check my videos to see when i last filmed one in Scotland.
