the #1 clip also came on the same night when he officially became the second player to ever average a triple-double in a season. (10+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 10+ assists)
Not only that, that same day he broke the record for most triple doubles in a season. He was about to take the L the same day breaking the record and the Nuggets needed that W to go to the playoffs so Westbrook basically sent them home.
My brother sold me the ticket to that game last minute. So when Russ broke the triple-double record, they were still down by more than 10.... I knew when he did it, he wasn't gonna be satisfied with just getting the record. Then he made this legendary shot. Needless to say, I was going nuts with all the Thunder fans in the upper deck. There was a pair of Nuggets fans sitting next to me who left with 3 minutes left, they said "We're up by 10, might as well beat the traffic."
Yup once it touches the time and team maintaines possession, the shot clock goes back to 24. That's y it was legal when he rebounded the ball it went back up to 24
In my opinion I think basketball is more Insane during close games bc u have to transition to defense and offense no matter what but in foot ball u can just kneel and it would be game💀 ik this isn’t really related to your comment but I’m just saying
@@thatztuff7849 No, that's cool. There are different factors that make games interesting for different people. I personally am drawn to football by strong defensive plays, and the intricacies of tackling. For close game though, basketball has a lot of lead switches and I think that's what's turned me off of it for so long.
The #1 play is #1 because of the context. The shot was a buzzer beater, it gave him 50 points, it officially eliminated the Nuggets from playoff seeding, and it occurred during his 42nd triple double of the year, which set a new NBA record originally held by Oscar Robertson for his 1962-1963 season.
That last play was so incredible as well because in that game he set the record for triple doubles in a season (42). Then he wins the game at the buzzer. Amazing! Triple double: double figures in 3 statistical categories in the same game, usually, but not always, points, rebounds and assists. Has also been done with steals or blocks, but very rarely. There have also been a handful of quadruple doubles but that’s extremely rare.
The #1 clip is special for multiple reasons. First of that was the last game of the season and he became the second player ever to average a triple double in a season. Also if he didn't Hit that shot the other team Denver Nuggets were making the playoffs so he basically eliminated them
The reason you got laughed at for saying “hundred IQ play” is that the phrase is usually “two hundred or three hundred or even thousand IQ play”. An IQ of 100 is considered average.
The context for the last clip makes it even better. Westbrook in the game of that last clip, had a 50 point, 16 rebound and 10 assist triple double . That was his 42nd triple double of that season which broke the regular season record for most triple doubles in a season and averaged a triple double for season and became the second player in NBA history to do that and the he won MVP for the season. And he averaged a triple double for the next two seasons as well.
Russ is one of the hardest playing players ever. Dude gives his all. Kyrie is considered a better ball handler. He is considered one of the best all time. There's are superstars and there are stars. Russ is a superstar. A guy you need to react to is Kevin Durant. Arguably the best player in the NBA. He is hurt right now and out for the year. He is a scoring machine. A 7 footer that is extremely skilled offensively.
If you didn’t you know the number 1 play was the game winner to his historic season of averaging a triple double and and breaking the most triple doubles in a season. That season was historic, there was so much meaning behind that shot
It's thoroughly enjoyable watching you discover the wonders of American sports. Thanks for letting us come along with you on the ride. We grow up in this environment so it's fun to see people who've never seen it experience it for the first time.
yo im glad you finally got around to seeing some russell westbrook highlights! im super happy to say that i get to go to the same school that he did and i have a westbrook jersey from back when he was in college! go bruins!!!
the move around 1:20 is called an “in-n-out”. it’s become a lot more popular in recent years, it’s basically faking a crossover then staying back on your original course without losing much speed. kyrie irving and westbrook both do it a lot, probably more than anyone else
👍👍👍👍👍 What an amazing reaction!!! Westbrook's athleticism is next level. He would have been an exceptional at any sport. Also he has that "I'm better than you" and the "you can't beat me" attitude. I've played with guys like him and was literally inspired to play harder and do things I wouldn't usually have the confidence to do in a real game. Also, that athleticism has to be real intimidating to opponents. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Btw the number 1 play was -Buzzer beater to beat the Nuggets with 1 point -his 50th point in that game -Broke the triple double record with 42nd triple doubles in a single season(Most in the NBA) -Eliminated Nuggets from playoff
I think I might’ve been the person who recommended him, at least one of them! Really glad you enjoyed him! He’s really controversial as you can probably tell! But he pulls off the most athletic, aggressive, impressive plays of all time.
I know we as viewers have been bombarding you with reaction requests, but I just want to say I appreciate all the consistent content you have been releasing. I enjoy your reactions keep it up!
A lot of ppl think he's overrated because he can be a stat stuffer, which basically means he cares more about getting points, rebounds, and assists rather than focusing on winning and refining his game. Either way, you can't deny he has crazy athleticism and is electric to watch.
number 1 is insane for a lot of reasons. 1. He got his 42nd Triple double that game ( double digit points, rebounds and assists) which beat the previous record of 41, a record that was thought to be unbreakable. 2. That three was his 50th point 3. He had scored 18 of the last 21 points of that game, the 3 point (had an assist on the 3 points he didnt score). 4. Prior to that game, Russ needed 14 Rebounds to officially average a triple double for the season ( done only once in history) and he got 16, making him the second player ever to average a triple double 5. That game was the last game of the regular season, the Nuggets had to win that game to make the playoffs, meaning Russ basically knocked them out of the playoffs
one thing ya need to know about westbrook is triple doubles. it means that he tallies at least 10 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in a game. he is known for getting triple doubles every game in the last few seasons
The last one is number 1 because he broke one of the impossible record in nba history in that game and plus a insane game winner and thats why the announcer said what a ending to a historic day
I’m a bit like you man , I’m English and been getting into basketball and nfl these last 2-3 years . I’d say Westbrook is my favourite player to watch , love his intensity and aggression .
The shot clock resets when the ball hits the rim. He caught the ball and dunked it back after the ball hit the rim, so his dunk counts because even though it was on the sound of the buzzer, it is in a completely new possession.
Plus Russell is bigger than most point guards, he is about 6ft4 and a half and is very strong, quick and is probably the most athletic point guards in the NBA
I live in Oklahoma City and it was pretty exciting times when KD and Westbrook were taking us to the NBA finals, except we could never close the deal. Then KD left, then Westbrook a few years after and now the team is basically a shell of its former self
5:00 the rule for the shot clock is that the ball has to at least hit the ring before the timer ends and is legal to put it back if hits the ring, also like buzzer beaters legalness of the shot depends on when the player released the ball.
The 24 second clock that tells you how long you have left to shoot is called the “Shot Clock” and it resets when the ball hits the orange rim of the basket, or if the defending team possesses the ball
The shot clock is 24 seconds in the NBA. If they don’t put up a shot before it expires, the other team gains possession. If the offense puts up a shot in time and gets the ball back on the rebound, the shot clock resets to 14 seconds. So Westbrook’s dunk was legal
There is a 24 second shot clock which limits each possession, but once the ball hits the rim, the shot clock resets. What happened there was the shot was taken right before the end of the clock, it hit the rim but came off, the clock reset to 24, then Westbrook got the rebound and dunked it.
The shot clock begins as soon as the ball is inbound. 25 seconds in standard NBA rules. Each time the ball touches the rim, or is turned over the shot clock resets. If the team in possession of the ball doesn't manage to score before the clock reaches zero, the result will be a turnover of possession of the ball to the opposing team.
The dunks where the player looks like he is winding the ball in a full circle is called a windmill dunk. You were also talking about the shot clock. You get 24 seconds to shoot the ball then a buzzer goes off. If the same team rebounds the ball the clock resets to 14 seconds for that team to shoot again. If the opposing team rebounds the miss then they receive a full 24 seconds to go shoot on the other end of the court.
You're talking about the shot clock. A team gets 24 seconds to shoot it when they get possession of the ball. The clock resets to 14 if the initial shot hits the rim and they get an offensive rebound. It used to reset back to 24 but they changed it to 14 a few seasons ago.
context for number 1. that shot won the thunder that game, and by losing that game, denver nuggets were eliminated from playoff contension. if westbrook had missed the shot denver would have made the playoffz
In the NBA the offense has 24 secs to get off a shot or else it is a shot clock violation and the other team is awarded the ball. The shot clock nowadays is usually located just above the backboard. In college ball, in both the men and women's game, there is a 30 sec shot clock. Once the ball however hits the rim the shot clock is automatically reset. Aside from being one of, if not the fastest player in the Association, Russell is the most intense and competitive player in the league. Or as Kobe Bryant once said, "Russell is a handful". Also understand, at one point Oklahoma had Westbrook, Durant, and James Harden, who came off the bench...and they failed to win a championship.
The time limit to score is called the shot clock, and if the ball hits the rim (the hoop) then the shot clock resets so what he did was completely legal
4:50 it was still Legal because the ball made contact with the rim, thus resetting the shot clock for another 24 seconds, had it hit the backboard or air balled it would’ve been a shot clock violation
Context for the last shot. Game winner last game of season. To win the MVP and lock in averaging a triple double for a season 30pts 11 reb and 10 assists
Passing off the defenders back is fairly common at all levels of basketball. It probably happens less in the NBA because defenders are more aware, but it still happens a handful of times a season. Also, Russell Westbrook is NOT an “all-around” player: he’s a poor shooter, poor defender, and has hurt his teams with his ball dominant approach. He’s currently helped the Rockets underachieve, so far, in 2019-2020.
That buzzer is a shot clock both teams have 24 seconds to score a basket and it resets back to :24 seconds if a player of either team scores or misses but also i think a new rule was added to where if a team gets they're own rebound twice i think it resets to :14 seconds or something
If the time runs out and it hits the rim and you get the rebound then it’ll reset to 14 seconds. it used to reset back to 24 seconds but the rule was changed recently
To make it even more impressive, you guys have to look up his height. Him, Derrick Rose, Kyrie and Steph are around the same height, yet Westbrook and D-Rose absolutely KILL the other two in terms of athleticism and dunking. Kyrie and Steph can barely dunk properly - or maybe chose not to, as I've seen them do decent ones recently.
If the ball hits the rim after the shot clock runs out, then the the shot clock resets to 14. However, this rule was only implemented last season. Before that, the shot clock was always reset to 24.
