Besides the fact that a complete seal was not achieved by applying the paste...the original reason the muffler cracked then broke completely in two pieces was because the muffler/exhaust system IS NOT properly secured...when you slam the car door and the whole system shakes and moves back and forth is my proof...this system will violently shake itself to pieces again...this bandaid fix will fail...most likely within the first trip....

Looks like a big messy, pain in the a** job to me, that's made even more difficult by not having a proper hydraulic lift to get the vehicle up high enough off of the ground to work on it. (I've spent countless hours under my cars, over the years, using only jackstands and it can be a huge hassle.) I wouldn't trust the longevity of this repair either. Seems like a cheap and temporary fix at best. I personally wouldn't waste my time and money on such a repair, but i do understand that sometimes you have to do the best that you can with what you've got and with what you can afford.

I still see a leak. Cheap and easy fix I did on mine... Steel wool double layered, held in place with furnace tape. (Furnace tape is only to hold the steel wool, otherwise it wouldn't last a couple of hours on the exhaust). Then layer aluminum sheeting over the steel wool using furnace tape to hold the sheeting in place so you can add a clamp or two. Works great and lasts a long time. Aluminum sheeting may need 2 - 4 layers depending on the hole.

Retired mechanic here with 40 years experience in the trade. My last auto garage I owned did many flex pipe replacements. Also had many welders in the shop, mig, tig, arc,stick etc. Sold almost all equip including my Millermatic 225 or my Lincoln TIG welder that I most likely would have used on this repair. Just recently purchased a brand new in the box Chicago Electric 90 amp Flux core welder from my neighbor for $50. Do you think Flux core can weld this? And yes, would have liked it if it was a 140 amp but it is what it is and I bought it as I did not have a welder any longer. Incidentally...... for "shits and giggles" and remind readers that safety on any job should be a priority. Few years ago sold business because of an injury. Winter was coming and wife wanted a stand by generator in case of loosing electricity up here in Northern Maine. Purchased a new Rigid 6800 one night from Home Depot, opened up my service panel to see where I was going to install the power feed for the house and stupidly grabbed a live 220 circuit powering my shed that has all my carpentry saws and tools and electrocuted myself thru my left hand (actually my thumb). My black thumb and forefinger were the worst burns 911 paramedics had seen they said. Wish that was the worst injury that night. Wife said the shock thru me some 6-10 ft and my body went into a seizure for over 3 minutes. Wife thought I was having a stroke, neither of which I ever had before. Now 3 years later at 62 years old I seize sometimes 10 times a year...or more wife says. And I can't remember a bloody thing most days. Wife's the best tho....she reminds me daily the names of my friends and neighbors...and also to take those dam pills (Keppra) so I don't seize. True story...again will a flux core weld this?

It never works too much weight and movement in the exhaust. Maybe last a mile.

That didn’t work, you can see at start up it still leaks..maybe if you stuck a pipe in between first and secure it , maybe it wouldn’t leak. Thanks for the video.👍

Fair play to him I tried the same method but could not get the jubilee clip screw thread to wind back in as the circumference was too large. Good video.

Looks like it needs an exhaust hanger for support. Pipe is shaking.

This fix will last very little time because of the flimsy metal and a flimsy clamp that will rot in no time,why not just welded so easy to do,and it would last a very long time.

This is a good video on how NOT to fix your exhaust.

Hmmmm the way the engine sounds it's not gonna hold up very long!! And YES definitely get some exhaust hangers to support it!!
@Francois_Dupont

To fix it right: remove cat back exhaust at the perforated lines buy Russian cat back exhaust (e,g, Russian toilet paper never rips at the perforated lines) remove catalytic converter - kill lambda probe - get new probe remove exhaust manifold - try to remove broken stud bolts remove whole propulsion aggregate to reach stud bolts find ruined clutch realize the mess in and out of gearbox get half your finger amputated anyway get help yadda yadda yadda exetera smile

Do this for quick fix not a real fix
@RushBerlin1

An easier way would have been to use a vacuum at the end to create a negative air flow ti would have sucked in the paste into the whole for a better connection. Then after that use a heat gun.
@bEEBO178

Another way would be to just buy a new exhaust

I have a sharpvac and $12 for the exhaust repair kit not $300 just to replace something with a small hole that can easily be fixed

Good idea, but on a 1996, the rest of it probably has just as many leaks.

Should’ve let it dry without running the engine and that flex pipe needs to be replaced I would’ve just gotten it welded by a shop
