kim, you really have a lot of patience. I have the 350 model and you got me through my learning experience with all the bumps and hurdles . I couldn't have gotten through it without you. I'm sure you will be helping all your crafty friends figure out the new machine because you are a wonderful teacher. I'm glad you used the little piggys stamp, they are my all time favorite stamp set. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for your perseverance. I can't wait to see your next video :)

Thanks so much. That is my favorite set too. Also, I know that it SHOULD cut out perfectly because it did on my other two machines. That is why I picked it. I have a frame of reference. I know it works so when the machine is saying it is aligned and it is NOT, it is just annoying. I like how we can align the machine ourselves in the CM350. That makes all the difference when using the Scanning/Cutting Position Adjustment setting. The machine is quiet and I like that. I just hope I get the rest fixed. I will keep on plugging away at it. Glad you will be here for my journey.

Donna Jo, you replied to me instead of the Papered Chef. I love the wireless and had no problem connecting either. I think the blade adjustment you found under the wrench is manual blade depth. My Auto Blade has to be adjusted to -6 for 80 lb. cardstock. The auto blade cuts through my mat. My mat loading and wireless are fine. I think Brother had some great ideas but sent out a very glitchy machine in the DX.

Oh no! Your Autoblade was cutting through your mat. This machine has a mind of its own. I am glad that didn't happen to me but I still have 3 issues that I am dealing with. Yes, there are glitches and they needed people like us to run the machine through the ringer to make sure it can stand up to crafters using it daily.

Kim, I THINK I found a place to align the blade manually. When you turn the machine on and get to the Patterns Scan page, at the bottom right is an icon (I think its a wrench), click on it. There are a bunch of adjustments, there is one that says something like Blade Adjustment. I clicked on it but didn’t make an adjustment - too scared and didn’t know what kind of adjustment to make! lol I’ll wait for you to figure it out, dear Kim! And of course I can’t find the manual I printed off. lol

Hi Donna Jo, thanks for thinking of me! The Blade Adjustment area is how far the blade has to travel back and forth before it docks. That setting looks a little different from what I am used to but I taught about that setting before. I did ask Brother and the lady on the phone didn't know but I will keep asking if I can adjust the Scanning/Cutting Position on the SDX like I was able to on the CM350.

I hope you get this problem fixed.....if your going to be using this machine this is not helpful to me cause I have no intentions of getting it now or later on....I guess I'll have to move on....thanks for all of your help with the other Scan N Cut that was very helpful and I did learn a lot with you.....tfs

Terrie....I feel the same way. I am happy to keep the 350. BUT give Kim a chance, she's not going to throw us to the wolves. So don't be too quick to leave, okay?

Trust me! There is NO WAY I am giving up my other machines. I already went back to using my CM350 today. I will be doing videos on both machines and I will label the SDX ones in the title and thumbnail so you know they are about that topic. Stick with me. There is still so much more we can do with our machines.

Yes, after my regular Whisper White card stock was eaten up by my SDX last night, I gave up and just started using my CM350 again. That wasn't even the regular Stampin' Up! card stock. Whisper White is thin and the mat lost its stick after just a few sheets of paper and the card stock slipped and got eaten up by my machine.

Mmm, yeah. I don't think you should have to fiddle fart so much with your machine. I know you say the machines have their own personality but yours is proving to be quite high maintenance (LOL)! I got my DX early this year from HSN. First issue I had was the mat not feeding right but that was handler error. I haven't had any problems since. I got the Standard Tack mat and it was super sticky. It ruined my cut out as I couldn't peel it off the mat. I no longer put much pressure on the card stock to stick on the mat. Fingers crossed your new mat will rectify the feeding issue as so many of the suggestions are just too much coddling of the mat to make it feed right. I just make sure my mat is flush with the right side of the feeder and that it is straight and hit the load the mat icon. Initially I was following a lot of the advice as far if you do this your mat will feed correctly. I don't do any of that now but maybe I've just been lucky. I also have the mat that does not have the blue dot and it has 8 dots on one side and 7 dots on the other. That scared me as I've been reading negative things about that particular mat. So far so good! I also have not done a firmware update. Not sure how to do it.. Must watch Kim's video on that. Yes, you must show us how you are loading the mat but like I said you shouldn't have to baby it so much. New mat for Kim!

Yes Nola, you are right. I should not have to work so hard to make it work. I will show how I am loading the mat in a future video for sure. I tried loading it at least 5 different ways and I can even go over the tips from viewers and what they lady from Brother said when I called today. I think it will be good to go over the mat loading issue and then watch with my viewers as I try out my new mat. You never know what is going to happen in my videos. I will find out if the issue is solved with the new mat they send. I don't have a blue dot like many are referring to. Here is how to do a firmware update with the USB stick. Of courses, if your wireless is working (mine is not) then you would just skip to the part where you update firmware and you can do it wirelessly instead of with the USB. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uVnD06_g_IY.html

Brother re-did their mats. Their new one works perfect. I destroyed 3 mats before they came out with the new one. They sent it to me free.

Sorry you had to destroy three mats but it sounds like the trailblazers like you will make it easier for us in the long run. I did call and they are sending me a new mat. Until then, I gave up on it because it totally destroyed my card stock. Chew it up and spit it out. So, I figured that because my mat had already lost it stick and it was going in crooked too, I better give it a rest until my new mat comes. Thanks for sharing your experience Marlene.

I have the Australian model SDX1200 I had issues with my stamps and pattern paper cutting out correctly. Dealer didn't know anything about it, even though I had seen some comments on facebook about other with similar issues. I returned the machine and they sent me a new one. It does the same thing! I have done the alignment adjustment 4 times in a row, just kept saying no it wasn't right (even though it looked right) and it got better. Still not perfect. I found it easier to see the change when not doing a white outline. I'm really interested in seeing more of your videos on this machine.

Wow DanLoki, viewers with the same issues are coming out of the woodwork. It is like NO, it is not aligned. I liked the CM350 where you could then tell it you want to nudge it to where it is aligned. This machine doesn't seem to fix it. I finally gave up on my little pigs. After trying so many times and then calling Brother, they said they would send me a new mat. I have a feeling that will only help my mat load and maybe not help my alignment issue but it can't hurt. Also, I feel like I should wait until my new mat arrives to call them again. They don't seem to be very techie there are are reading off of a troubleshooting script as opposed to having the machine in front of them to work with.

@@PaperedChef yes when I posted in some facebook groups people were having the same issues and many thought it was normal and that was how it was meant to cut! I'm lucky my mat hasn't had any issues loading. I didn't recut in between each alignment that I did. I just did them one after another. I could tell how far I would have like to have been able to manually adjust the machine, but like you say it isn't an option like previous ones. If it needs alignment often then I don't think it is good we can't manually do it. I haven't had a chance to call brother Australia yet. Will have a play around some more.

I never have problems loading my mat, thanks for all the tips. If you press the bottom button it stops the machine from working and it will stop straight away.

Good point. Cut of the power if it starts getting eaten by the machine. I feel like the plastic is just crumbling. My poor mat keeps going in crooked and taken a real beating.

@@PaperedChef Under the top righthand corner of my mat, the mat has what looks like skid marks! It's kinda blackish. I've rubbed that off. I don't know if that's started interfering with the loading or not. need to see if I have the correct mat. Mine works most of the time but not always. One of your viewers in the first video, I believe, said she had to align her ScanNCut 8 times before it cut correctly. I wonder if we have to realign every time we move it? I hope not! I take mine to a friend's house to use. I'm not giving up yet! I was cutting out stamped images on watercolored paper last night. I'm not really satisfied with the cuts either, maybe this was just because the paper was so thick. I'll have to check when I cut out thinner card stock. I discovered that mine cuts nicely BEFORE I color the images! If I color outside the line, it thinks that's part of the line and cuts around it! lol I haven't tried cutting images from patterned paper but hope to soon. As far as the speed of the cutting, I still can't remember where to find it even though I used it last night :-). BUT it's in the same place where you choose to align the machine. We have to click through several pages, and one is changing the speed of the cutting and drawing and other fun stuff. This ADD and Old brain fails me a lot! I'm about to branch out into writing a saying in .svg format. I need lots of prayers for that! Keep up the good work - you're doing great as usual!

What an ordeal! I wanted this machine so bad but im glad I waited. I have seen nothing but frustrating reviews. I hope Brother will stop the production of this model and put something out that works out of the box. I would buy the last model but at some point Im sure they will quit supporting that model. I have been down that road with other companies. Urrrrrr, very disappointing. Thanks for sharing your experience! You did a very good video and I feel very fair demo.

Thanks Lynn, I always start out WANTING it to work. I am not casting any spells on this machine and it is just not working right. I KNOW for sure these pigs cut out perfectly because they cut out on my other two models. I don't think that Brother would stop supporting their older models of machines. Plus, it will work for years anyhow and right out of the box. Here is what I recommend for now. I have courses on it too. Hopefully I learn to love the SDX machine too. I had the same problem trying to align my machine and agree wish it would let us make the slight adjustments manually, as the right side was fine, but the left side seemed off even after three attempts.

Thanks, I am glad I am not alone. I just want it to work for the both of us. Brother said they are going to send me a new mat. I will wait for it. Maybe the new mat will help with the alignment problem too because if it is not loading correctly, maybe it isn't quite scanning correctly.

I would use something that's very even on all side (like a square or something) as the object when checking the alignment. There are a few dots of "soil" under your piggy, so maybe the machine is measuring from those dots (not the pig) when determining the .04 margin.

I will try with a flying pig next because there is nothing around the flying pig. It is just that the other two models of ScanNCut that I have cut out my pig perfectly. That same pig sitting up so that is why I chose that image. So, it could be that the machine is more sensitive. Can't hurt. I am still plugging along.

I see everyone told you about the bad mat. I have the correct one and it works. The dots on the right is the year. Dots on left is month. I think. Can't wait to see how to hook up the wireless. I have no clue 😀

Thanks Susan. When I get my new mat, I can compare it to the old one and explain that better. I need to see them side-by-side. I know exactly how to hook up the wireless on the CM350 and it works. I will share my tutorial with you. Hopefully you can follow along. There is something wrong with my wireless. Still, I was able to use my USB stick. Here is the link to my wireless tutorial. My mat has 8 dots to the left snd only 5 dots to the right. I think that means I need a new mat. I’ll have to call Brother. I can usually get it to load but sometimes it takes several tries.

Oh dear Kim....I see you are still having a problem. I read what Alicia said about the blue dot on the mat and it has me wondering if I don't have one of the bad mats because I don't have any blue dots. I'm curious to see what your new mat looks like. I know about the month and year dots but never heard anything about a blue dot. We will all get this worked out thanks to you Kim! :-)

Thanks Kathy, we are going to keep plugging along. Brother sent me a new mat so after that arrives, I will go about trying it out and sharing my experience with my viewers. I don't have a blue dot and I have 8 and 7 dots which viewers are telling me is the BAD mat.

I just spoke with Brother about my mat and they say it is not one of the defective mats, 8 & 7. Plus they said that as of July 1 they have stopped replacing the mats for their customers! I argued both with them so they finally agreed to send me a new mat. So I guess everyone is back at the same place they were a when DX first came out. :-( Sad that they wont own that the DX has issues that need serious attention! Just wanted to keep you updated Kim! Thanks for all your help and advice!

@@kathyf6882 Wow! I know it was July 1st because I tinkered with the machine and specifically waited until Monday to call them. That was July 1st. Also, my viewers had told me my mat was fine. Brother never really owned up to having a bad mat. They just asked for my serial number and then offered to send me a new mat. That was only because I had 3 major issues and they couldn't fix any of them so they figured - send her a mat and get her to go away. However, you know me. I am NOT going away. Interesting that they said they wouldn't replace mats. Here is the problem. The mat is not even being fed it. So, it is not even getting to the part where it recognizes the patterns. I think they should send us all two new rubber rollers which will actually catch the mat. There is no grip. I will keep you all posted of my progress with Brother. I called them again about my wireless issue today. They said they would call me back and they didn't. The lady who was different woman from the other day couldn't help me and elevated my issue.

@@PaperedChef I just answered a survey from Brother and I gave them a bad rating not because of the Rep herself but because I could tell that the way she was not helping me was the way she was trained. In other words dont give them anything and get rid of them as quickly as possible. Very disappointed in Brother. These machines are expensive and we should be treated accordingly. In my opinion they need to replace your DX there is obviously something wrong with it, more then the mat issue. I was so excited when you got your DX thought that I would get to learn more from you (which I am sure in the future I will) but your having to deal with a machine that clearly does not work.

I replied to a message on here but wanted to make sure everyone seen my message. The difference between mats is the blue dot right near the cut out to hang the mat. This blue dot is in the opposite side of the side that you feed the mat in the scanncut. Had this problem when I bought mine off hsn when they first started selling. It was a nightmare. So blue dot on the mat and firmware update should fix the problem.

Good afternoon...you have inspired me!! Got out the 350 the first time in over a year. Checked for updates but according to what shows at 2.20 I'm good to go. Is this what you have for this model? I had forgotten how much fun this machine can be. Now, to create something...thank you, Kim.

@@doloresbennett1755 That is OK. It is one you can do manually but it is one of those that probably doesn't matter a lot so they are not pushing it out automatically. Leave it alone if it is working. LOL.

I would check the number of dots on the mat at the bottom. This is discussed onlots of FB pages. My bad mat had 8 and 7. Called and got a replace,meant.

Yes, they are going to send me a new mat. Thanks for that. Someone told me I had the latest mat and I didn't. The lady on the phone didn't know how many dots I was supposed to have. She just told me I probably had the wrong number of dots. Thanks for telling me what the right number of dots should be.

@@PaperedChef I had the same problem when I bought mine through hsn before they were even released to the public market. I had nothing but problems. Took a while for Brother to figure it out.. the difference is a blue dot right by the cut out shape (to hang the mat) on the opposite side that you feed the mat into the scan n cut. If there is no blue dot right there.. it's the wrong mat. Trust me I was very upset when I had that problem because I loved my scan n cut. After I got the new mat I don't have any problems. And make sure that your software is up to date. 😉

@@PaperedChef trust me.. I understand. My problem was around the holidays of last year. I even took it in to a scanncut repair shop that was 50 min away and they had it for a month!!! The only thing that saved me was my old scanncut sill worked! Finally scanncut came out with the new mat. And found out that was my problem. I guess this mat problem does not occur with all machines. I had even bought three DX mats ahead of time because the closest place that sold all of the DX stuff was about 50 min away.. lucky brothers told me to send in the mats I bought and they replaced all of them with no charge. Once you get your new mat the loading problem will no longer be an issues😉

@@lilpapercrafter Well that makes me feel better even though I understand how bad that was for you around the holidays! Like you, I am NOT giving up my other machines. I need them to get my crafting work done. I still can't get my wireless to work on my new machine. It is going to take a while to work like the champ it should. I waited SO LONG to get this machine so that Brother would have all of the bugs worked out. I heard of nothing but trouble when it first came out and I went along my merry way with my CM350 without a care in the world. Now I am going through what you went through a long time ago.

what benefits does the DX offer over the old model, just the blade depth thing?

At this point, I am starting to wonder. I like the Autoblade technology and the extra storage. It is also quieter. It claims to have a lot more built in patterns but I have yet to do a side by side comparison to figure out what has really changed. There are a couple of cool settings like being able to scan half a page and being able to do a half cut for vinyl. Still, is it worth the upgrade and the expense? That is the BIG question. I can't answer that yet but come along with me on my journey to mastery of the this machine and maybe we can all grow to love it. Thanks for watching.

I was having the same problem with loading my mat I as told to check the sides of the mat and make sure there wasn’t any black marks on it there was so I sanded those off and haven’t had that problem since

Thanks so much. That is a GREAT idea. I called Brother and was on the phone for a while. They did help me with my wireless issue a bit but couldn't help me with my mat loading issue. OK, so I have two big black marks which were caused by the rollers. Are those what you sanded off?

I agree I think I’m going to wait until the model is improved, I bought my scan n cut 2 just a year ago and it is making a great job. It broke my heart see you trying to load the mat so many times 😔 that affects productivity. Anyway did you try with scan in position 2 ?

Connie Hinojosa Yes Connie, I tried with position 2 as well. I have been able to cut built in patterns so I can show that to newbies. My trick is to leave my mat inside once I finally get it to load. Don’t let it break your heart because I didn’t get rid of my CM350. Now that would have broken my heart.

Thanks, a new mat is on the way. They spent like an hour trying to troubleshoot before saying that they would send me a new mat. I hope your machine is working like a charm now.

Thanks Dolores. I am still not happy with my pigs. I wish it would allow me to align the blade myself. I even asked Brother when I called and there is no way to do that. I am going to show how to align it with the CM350 for the benefit of the majority of my viewers who have that model of ScanNCut. It is much easier to do with the CM350.

Denise Dornbusch Oh ok, this was a long time ago. They sent me a new machine. It is still off. I have to do the Scanning/Cutting position adjustment like 20 times just to get somewhat even spacing. It eventually works and then a few weeks later, it goes out of alignment. My CM350 is better in that regard because I have control over the alignment.

Papered Chef I cut a bunch of the flowers from the new mega bundle and the February Paper Pumpkin and a .08 bunch of different colored mats to put them once I color them. I learned this from you. I can’t wait to color and make the cards now.

It’s Scanning in my piggy’s haha 😂 this would be great, you could make use of a lot of stamps and create them into stickers which is the newest version?

Glad you are scanning in some piggies too! I love this stamp set. It is my favorite. You can either put sticker paper (double-sided) on the back and then peel them off or you can run your stamped images through a sticker machine. At about 11 minutes into the video, I showed how I use a little sticker machine on my cut out patterns. Why do we need to use double sided sticky paper to create stickers?

@@anidemjess5875 If you apply a sheet of sticker paper to your paper before you cut it out, you have automatic stickers. I do that if I am cutting or die cutting a whole sheet of stickers. In the case of the cars, I made individual stickers. Of course you can just go Old School and use glue. LOL. amzn.to/2xkha2z

Does your mat have a blue dot at the bottom? Call Brother and they will replace your mat. If that doesn’t work, exchange the machine.

No, it doesn't have a blue dot. Thanks. I called them about 3 issues I was having. They couldn't fix my wireless issue but they did say that they are sending me a new mat. I hope that fixes the problem. I will record my journey with the new mat and hopefully learn to love this new machine of mine so stay tuned. Thanks for watching Vesta.

Papered Chef What kind of wireless problems are you having? I didn’t have any problems hooking mine up, thank goodness. still having mat loading problems and not cutting properly. It is cutting a lot lot better almost perfect but not quite.. Wireless is great, isn’t it? You can send images from the scan and cut to canvas workspace and workspace back to the machine without using a USB. That is going to be really really nice. looking forward to additional videos. Also I am realigning my blade every time I cut something out. Maybe if I align it enough it will align!

Donna Jo Sorry you also have so much trouble aligning the machine. I’ve tried so many times and I’m still not happy with the results. The wireless will not connect at all. I enabled WLAN but it can’t find my network or even my neighbors. Brother tried to tell me it was my ISP. No way because my CM350 connects just fine. Another hurdle I’ll get over.

It just has a mind of its own now doesn't it? The way I showed the firmware update the other day was only for those who don't have wireless. For those who do, it should be automatic. Thanks for keeping me posted.

@@PaperedChef I have been taking my mat and treating it like a little baby LOLOLOL I wash her really good with a baby wipe when I am done and let her dry and Place cover back so FAR SO GOOD !!!!! I LOVE MY SNCDX and I love your videos!! THANK YOU!!!!!! SO VERY VERY MUCH!!!

Well Patty, I can honestly say that I feel your pain. The things I do the most with my ScanNCut are cutting out stamped images and patterned paper. We both need this to work. So, do you have the blue dot on your mat? Check out the comments from Alicia and Vesta. They both said we need mats with the blue dots. So, I called Brother and they are sending me a new mat. Hopefully that doesn't just fix the mat loading issue but it also fixes the alignment issue. Crossing fingers for both of our sakes.

I don't see a blue dot. My dots are 8 & 7. I guess I need to call Brother. I did have the load or wireless connection issues. Hopefully, you will get it worked out soon. Otherwise, Brother should exchange the machine. You help promote their product so much they should jump on it. I wasn't interest in the machine until I watched your videos. I started watching your videos for the Stampin Up tutorials. You sold me on a SNC. :)

Patty H Thanks Patty, I do hope they help me out with this wireless issue. They told me to contact my Internet Service Provider. I did and that didn’t help. I could have a dud. I will exchange the machine if need be. I’m OK with the machine going on vacation if that would help it get better.

O.M.G Now I am in pickle. I called Brother and described the issue - border not even all the way around. She told me that it would not be perfect. She could tell that I was not happy with her answer. She had me clean the scanner glass. Then attempted to do the scanner realignment. MY MAT WILL NOT LOAD!!! She said my mat is current. Now I have to go to a service center. Not a happy camper.

What works for Cricut probably won''t work for this machine. This machine reads loading at it's own pace.

Yes, I followed the suggestions of my viewers thinking gravity would help. It didn't. I called Brother and they are sending me a new mat. Turned out that I have a defective mat after all.

I know, it takes like 20 tries. Once it is loaded, it stays in there if you cut patterns but still....very annoying.

Well, I am keeping it real. This is what is happening but I will also share WHEN I get this all fixed. I love dies and my Big Shot too and the intricacies and easy embossing are their advantages. Thanks for watching. I will keep my viewers posted and in the meantime, I must go back to my CM350. Glad I never got rid of my first two ScanNCuts.
