I really hope this is just something Ralph is doing on the sidelines to keep the channel alive and making money. Because I really hope this isn’t the quality of videos from now on. He sounds so monotone and like everything was just 1 take in this.
I had to do a double take of that scene the first time I saw it, as well as *I wAnt You To CaLL mE sTeevE.* not even the most amateur of C list actors would do a job that comically bad. wage workers are scolded if they underperform even just a bit, yet Mr Clean here can afford to show up on set 2 days late, shakes his forehead wrinkles a little, shrugs and bags 10k.
I do feel sorry for Bruce Willis, but 1. Nobody knew about the Asphasia at this point and 2. It doesn't make these movies any better, it just gives context to everything.
Yeah I mean Bruce wasn’t alone, there were potentially lots of people who knew and kept pushing him anyway. He didn’t direct, edit, or produce any of these.
@@glitchesandglitter you can like and respect bruce willis and also think his recent movies are trash. knowing what you know now would you go and watch these movies?
It would just be full of 100s of interchangeable characters that you could plug and play into their generic role for the movie. You could use them to procedurally generate terrible VODs.
Yea I was kinda getting sick of him there since that rambo 4 and same with Bruce since die hard 4.. but yeah Stalone is still giving it a lot of passion
Yeah, it's one of those things where while watching him, all you can think is "God, he could easily be doing so much better," and yet he just doesn't. It's depressing to see such a good actor just be an ass to everybody on set, and then deliver such an incredibly piss poor performance.
@animationeer Yea, and its not like he has reached Nicholas Cage-tier, where his weird /odd performances are overlooked and often still loved because they are so awkward or weird lol
Say what you want about Nick Cage, but at least when he does cash grabs he's in the movie for more than 10 minutes and does his best to make his scenes entertaining
@DamageIncM if you want some absolute Nick Cage bangers, The Weather Man is super underrated, Adaptation is one of the best meta films ever, and Mandy is purified badass. There's also the obvious choices like Red Rock West, Face/Off, and The Rock. Lord of War is also super underrated, as well as Joe. Hell, Vampires Kiss is a legitimately great film held together by an over the top Cage performance that gets made fun of because people think it was accidentally goofy. Bruce is just a straight up weirdo, like acts and says weird shit behind the scenes, whereas I've always seen Cage as being extravagant but super nice even if he can come off as pretentious. All in all, I'd shake Bruce's hand but I'd party with Cage.
@DamageIncM well Joe, Mandy, and Color Out of Space are all fantastic movies that've come out recently. The dude definitely does a lot of trash (Between Worlds, Primal, the upcoming Jiu Jitsu is probably gonna be bad, etc) but when he's given a good script, he adds so much to the project
*Die as a hero or live long enough to become casted in straight-to-DVD films.* But "I'll take you anytime, Punk" will allways have a special place in our hearts
When you have as many expenses as hollywood actors they dont really have a choice in roles.. This is why nice cage also is in like 500 shitty movies lol
@@Brogan_Balfour_Crescent Honestly it seems Crowder's already on a "dark path". He's failed comedian who's paid to spread lies and peddle meaningless culture war bullshit.
@@KiraDidNoWrong8274 That's honestly something I hate to see in Hollywood, especially at award ceremonies like the Oscars. Stars shouldn't take themselves too seriously.
I'd like to see them on set together too just because that clash of personalities would result in a colossal (and possibly violent) shitshow, but that would never happen. Realistically Seagal would just be saying his lines at Willis' body double.
@broootal yeah, I don't think Wes Anderson chooses good actors as much as he chooses those who better fit his own particular style. I don't think Luke nor Owen Wilson are considered good actors, but they're perfectly adequate for their respective roles in The Royal Tenenbaums; Bill Murray stopped caring years ago, but WS knows how to channel his current apathetic "energy", and so on.
Yes! I've seen most of his better movies over the years, but those are the two where I think he did good acting jobs. I could be prejudiced; I find the character "Bruce Willis", who he usually plays, obnoxious.
I don't judge Ralph for making fun of this garbage with the information known to the public at the time, but I retroactively judge the people involved in producing it SOOO MUCH more.
@@AnnabelleG96 the only thing I could find is that Bruce Willis has brain damage as a result of a disorder. Maybe implying that he’s being taken advantage of.
@@AnnabelleG96 Bruce Willis has Aphasia. It’s a language disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate-it occurs mainly after a stroke or head injury from a growing brain tumour or disease.
Gluttony? Brando, or someone else who got fat later in their career. Envy? Van Damme or someone like him, someone trying to become a big star but never became that big.
@@MRADOES04 he needs to get paid. This video is an hour long and thats after cuts and editing. So hours if not days of work. RU-vid pay alone isn't enough i guess. That being said it really was a soulless promo
So, the consensus amongst most reviewers (not just Ralph) around the time when this video was made was that Bruce simply "wasn't trying" anymore. Now with the news of his diagnosis, it seems he was likely trying harder than any of us can imagine all along.
Man i cant wait for the Steven Seegal and Bruce Willis team up movie. One will be sitting down the entire time and the other will be facing away from the camera.
Bruce Willis was still making good movies up until around 2012/13, i rewatched Looper today and it's excellent. Now we know he was suffering from dementia it's really sad seeing him star in all of these B movies, he used to be so cool and charismatic.
Considering that email said Bruce was unjustifiably mean to the makeup girl, I think it's fair to just say Bruce Willis proactively makes everything he interacts with, on set, worse.
After learning about Bruce Willis's declining health around this time, this run of movies, especially when it comes to Willis' performance, it goes from funny-sad to sad-sad.
There was a news article published a while ago that said Bruce can't even talk anymore. That probably sheds some light on why his later characters tended to talk while facing away from the camera.
It's kind of an evil twist of irony that an actor would get a specific form of dementia that targeted everything first that was important for acting. Now I wish these movies were just him falling out of love with acting, instead of... that.
Here me out: Cast Bruce Willis as Neil Breen in the Neil Breen biopic. Their ways of speaking are so similar that it could convince people that Willis still has incredible acting chops.
weird how 12 monkeys wasn't included in the list of actually good films/performances. die hard, unbreakable and sixth sense are such standard picks, but 12 monkeys is an interesting contrast to all of these considering how out of character he was in that, not to mention he basically worked for free solely because he wanted to work with terry gilliam. he obviously got paid afterwards, but even then it was considerably less than usual. i just think that's quite the contrast to the bruce willis of today.
Agreed 12 Monkeys is wonderful. It's frustrating because Bruce Willis CAN (or at least once could...) act. His characters in the aforementioned 12 Monkeys and something like Death Becomes Her , or Die Hard and the Jackal etc are all polar opposites yet totally convincing. He puts his all into those performances. Now he barely looks capable of getting through a line...
It’s cool how Frank Grillo makes it public that he took it for the money. He’s got a good attitude about it. I have a strong feeling that Bruce Willis wouldn’t act the same way. Speaking of which, you should probably give Larry Cockslock a call...
At least Nic Cage still has some gems like Mom and Dad, Color out of space , and Joe thrown into all the crap he is doing ....Willis has just completely given up
Actually, I agree with Elvis the Alien that Nic Cage is experiencing a resurgence in his career by talking on off-beat roles in indie horror films. Which makes sense since that's what drew Nic Cage into acting to begin with, and all of his best movies prior to the 2000's are either off-beat narmy indie horror flicks like "Vampire's Kiss" (which is my favorite movie of his), off-beat comedies (like Raising Arizona), and mainstream movies that are either outgoing, narmy action flicks (like Face/Off) or very cynical and weird and taboo (like 8MM, Leaving Las Vegas or Bringing out the Dead). In the 90's he did a heck-ton of romance and action, then towards the 2000's a lot of drama (mostly comedies like Adaptation or the Weather Man), and then after Ghost Rider he hopped onto the Disney high and went /straight-down/ with bad horror and action movies for a few years. It's like Disney curses its performers or something. Anyway, Mandy was a good change of pace, and I really liked Color out of Space. Mom and Dad is trash but at the same time very entertaining and weird. And you can bet your ass I'm hyped for his new horror film that is basically a live-action adaptation of FNAF. Basically, the best Nic Cage movies are those that if you sum them up in one sentence, they sound so absurd that people would think you made it up using a random film idea generator.
Color of Space is pretty enjoyable but I can't stay silent on the part where the mom cuts her fingers: it just made me laugh out loud! I'm pretty sure it's impossible to lose fingers like that when casually cutting vegetables but hey, it's a movie that I'd rewatch! Mandy looks nice, too! And fucked up...
@@anikmonette2140 lmao do you cut your veg with a butterknife?? I worked in a kitchen doing catering before covid hit and one of our prep cooks lost 2 knuckles off of his finger but yeah, unrealistic.
@@TheNickleChick I still have to wonder how it happened: did he put all his weight on the friggin knife?! Did he accidentally cut right in between the joints? Because in the movie she looks like she cut throught everything, bones and all, all four main fingers, while being merely distracted. I mean, I've heard about accidents like that before but the way it's portrayed in the movie I just couldn't hold my laughter! Because yes, it did look fake and unrealistic while the movie itself is competently made, overall...
@@comixproviderftw_02 The rest of the movie would be about Segals action team trying to stop a bomb plot that was set up by Bruce. Segal and Bruce only interact with each other on the phone all while sitting down
Steven Seagal was never an A-Lister to begin with and Nic Cage does these B-movies after all his financial problems (which include a run-in with the IRS for a large sum of unpaid taxes) but Bruce Willis? Does he really needs the money? EDIT: Well now we do know, why he did all these crappy movies.... It's really sad.
Don't quote me, but im under the suspicion that "Miller" is just an alias for directors that dont want their names attached to a movie. Just like how Alan Simthee was used in the past
I imagine that Bruce kept working to support his family. Let us all remember that part of his legacy are some wonderfully sensitive performances from an often underappreciated actor. Don't let these sub-par product movies take away from his work in Die Hard, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Twelve Monkeys and his work with Wes Anderson. He created a space for men to be strong, moral AND vulnerable.
I firmly believe Hayden Christensen is a pretty good actor. He can do a good job of conveying emotion and seeming like a real person, when hes given good stuff to work with at least.
I personally couldn’t see anyone else play Anakin Skywalker. He was good , it’s just George Lucas ruined his career by giving him awful lines like “ I hate sand”
@@callumboscoe8685 agreed. I always felt like he brought a lot of humanity to the role even with poor writing. I felt for him when he was angry, and believed in him when he was prospering.
@@kg_canuck I think he’s great in revenge of the sith. Every scene with him and Ian Mcdirmond is great. I hope Star Wars ended with that film as the Disney ones suck
>High Budget >Badly written characters portrayed by decent actors >Bullshit special effects >Tonal dissonance >Ridiculous action scenes Yep, it's Chinese Cinema Time
Apparently they did know, towards the end he was being fed lines during recording / told exactly where to stand etc because he often didn't really know what was going on. The producers let him do it because having him in their shitty movies was the only way anyone would ever hear about them. It was all about making money to them
The entire thing just makes me so cynical about the industry. Like, yeah, good on Bruce for making his money while he could.. but like.... it kind of makes me feel a little despair that it went on for as long as it did and worked as well as it did folding ideas has talked about it a little before, how much of the stuff we consume isn't anyones vision or artistic expression, it's just a product to be sold, produced to fill a slot in future cable syndication schedules. Action isn't the genre it used to be, we don't really have action stars like we used to. And the entire Bruce Willis saga is just such perfect example of the decline of the genre/the industries unwillingness to break from formula It makes more financial sense to have a film basically tarring a stunt double with Willis occasionally being prodded to deliver indecipherable lines than to cast an unknown It's Kafkaesque
LOLLLL as amazing as that would be I think contracts that get you the big bucks require you to be physically on set, hence Bruce's anal attitude about how long he's on set for.
@@alphalax7747 I still don't think anything can top Bad Bigfoot Shows, idk why but that one still has me rolling. I think it's the personal connection I have to the subject matter because I used to be obsessed with Bigfoot shit when I was like 11 or 12
@@khareraye2279 a laughing emoji doesnt indicate its a sarcastic joke. Not even a funny joke if youve watched ralph for a while like you say since he said why he doesnt upload as frequently and its good reasoning, quite unlike youve got apparantly lacking empathy for others point of view 😂
After the recent news, a lot starts to make sense. I was sorry to hear the news, especially a diagnosis of such a cruel and debilitating condition. I can't say I've not been entertained by the guy.
I think the last great movie he was in was Moonrise Kingdom in 2012. Surprised you didn't mention it, especially because you rated it 4.5/5 stars on Letterboxd
