I did the same 5 years ago in mine, but i added a bosch beatle dinamo in place of the magdyno, drived by a pulley and belt behind the inner cover, together with the one way chutch of the start. We do not have parts here. 🇧🇷

Find video Brian , I was working on a Mono block carb with a hanging throttle problem, true the flanges for the car mount to no avail, I discovered through multiple dis Assemblys that the jet block without the fiber washer on it threaded into the body of the carb revealed that it stopped before it shoulder seated against the carb body leaving an air gap close to 30tho. The gasket was not thick enough, this caused the jet block to cock in the body of the carburetor binding the slide up. A thicker gasket was all it needed and the carburetor worked fine after that, it only took 22 times for me to tear it apart and put it back together to see this😂

Interesting video Brian, thanks for sharing. I assume that the starter motor connects to the engine through something like a Sprag Clutch, personally I would be a little concerned about the location of the starter, but I guess the proof is in the eating. I freely confess that I really like these old BSA singles. I think they are perhaps unfairly overshadowed by their more exotic contempories but if I was looking for a classic bike to ride they would be high on my shopping list.

The starter motor drives a chain which turns a shaft through the inner chain case which turns a chain connected to the engine mainshaft as shown in the video. It all works very well.

Lovely bike Brian, runs beautifully. I'd be a bit concerned about how low the starter motor is, I think a guard is a good idea. Best wishes, Dean in Oxfordshire.

Dean, i'm told that thousands of conversions have been sold with no isues reported. I do intend to carry out a full restorationon on this bike and will be keeping it, hence the electric start conversion. Thanks for the comment, Cheers B

@@500dbd34 that's good Brian, maybe just looks low in the video. It's a lovely machine, I'm sure you'll get a lot of enjoyment from it.

Nice video Brian. I noticed a slight whirring noise when the engine was running, I have the same but louder on my C12, with practically all new engine bearings. Do you know where the noise comes from? I have heard similar engines with no whirr so wondered if it was a problem. All the best David

Dave, my hearing is not good and with the chaincase off it's a bit noisey. i'll check it out again before I strip the bike for the restoration and let you know if I find anything Cheers B

Hi Brian, I've just bought a '52 BSA B31 and wondered about your starter mod as I have new knees. Where did you get it done? Also any suggestions on where to go for parts etc would be very much appreciated. Kind regards, Ian.

Hi, Phil Pearson and John Edwards did the conversion for me. They are based near Gt. Yarmouth, they sell the conversion in kit form. Just Google Phil Pearson Gold Star specialist. As for parts start with eBay, dragonfly and Google, most parts are available, B31 is a very part’s friendly bike. Cheers Brian

Mr Alfonso I replaced wheel hub on my B31 plunger 1953 but the new one is slightly smaller than the original so when I tighten falgram nut up wheel won't turn , in your opinion what would you do? Thankyou.
