I'm having trouble replacing cables , clutch, front brake , I find replacement cables to long, any idea where I can purchase right size cables? Many thanks
Yes, I had the same problem on most of my bikes, I now make my own, you can get the bits on eBay but you must use silver solder for the nipples. Sorry I cant help with suppliers though. Cheers B
@@500dbd34 thankyou. As regards front brake cable do you measure from handle bars to brake lever? One more question, is there only one adjuster at lever end nothing on handlebars? . What should I be doing to the plunger if it needs recommitioned? I am amiture.
Martyn, I like to fit adjusters on the lever as well as the brake end, gives you more adjustment if needed. I set up the lever end, route the cable with enough slack to get full lock both ways. You can then get the outer cable length down at the wheel, make sure the adjuster is backed off and you can then get the inner cable length. I'll be showing how I do it later in the series. Other guys do it differently, but the end result is what matters.
This is amazing Brian, thanks for making the effort of sharing this. Looking forward to the progress and the finishing result. You should have the Benny Hill show music playing 😁 - only kidding! PS. I can’t believe you don’t have another “pair of hands” with you, I’d love to be doing that with someone and learning those incredible skills 👍🏻
I bought myself a BSA B31 plunger 350 1953, I'm learning very slowly that BSF spanners fit but so many other spanners fit to !! . Lovely bike sounds really nice. Great video thankyou for sharing, can't wait for part 2.
Devlin, the problem with real time is that the videos become too long and I like to keep the commentary to a minimum and let the pictures do the talking. The fastenings - nuts and bolts are mostly British Cycle Thread at 26 TPI as used by BSA but I do use a lot of metric stuff also. Thanks for the comment, always appreciated. Cheers Brian
@@500dbd34 Thank you so much for replying so speedily. The size seems to sit between spanners on my Whitworth set and I'm wary of rounding them off. Thanks for checking but whilst you're there could I cheekily ask for a C spanner size for the pushrod tube gland
Sorry but giving out contact info is not recommended, there are lots of videos on RU-vid which will help you. Good luck with your restoration. Cheers B
