►In this video, we'll explore the science behind building bigger biceps through muscular tension. Muscular tension is a key factor in muscle growth, and understanding how to use it to your advantage can help you maximize your bicep gains.
We'll begin by discussing the basics of muscular tension and how it affects muscle growth. Then, we'll dive into specific exercises and techniques that can help you apply this principle to your bicep training
This is…

I described he and Tates conversations as Miyagi and Kreece of powerlifting talking but I like this better.

Hell yeah, a JM video! The timing of this video is uncanny. Was doing isometric curls with my coworker yesterday, we are going to do this style next time.

'Most mechanical tension for the least recovery burden'. I love the way JM explains everything. I have fond memories of doing some isometrics/forced eccentrics on a preacher curl machine with buddies in high school. We'd generally fight as hard as possible to hold a midrange isometric with our training partner resisting, and then when we couldn't they'd slowly (and very carefully) force us through the eccentric to the bottom. Brutal exercise, but I really liked learning how hard I could fight on the exercise. It really brought a new level of intensity and friendly competition between gym buddies.

Tom Platz has trained people this way as far as adding physical resistance during strain points of a lift. I’ve heard Mike Mentzer say he’d only train 30 minutes 4 times a week at points, too…as it pertains to what JM is addressing about recoverability.

I've been listening to the descriptions of mechanical tension for at least the last 3 or 4 years and listening to JM describe and then demonstrate what he talks about really help to comprehend ts of the intangles of muscle growth. Really helps to bridge the understanding and speed the learning curve. Thank you elite FTS and JM!

I like using a towel for these as well. The person pulling the towel throughout the curl easily adjusts tension whenever they feel like. Even all the way through the movement. Let off just enough for the person to be able to move their arms

I like this approach, makes a lot of sense and I will incorporate it but, I'm one of those who likes to spend a long time in the gym as well for my head space. Both things can definitely work

Loved it! I use to do a little bit of isometric training but over the years I stopped. Question, how would you do this without a training partner? For example, the bench press.

What if you train arms and shoulders or chest and back together? I’m guessing you’d just do 1 exercise that targets each then be done? I really like the concept

''Recovery burden'' is mentioned many times. I'm a lifetime natural. Since some time I have added salted ghee into my post training diet (as the last thing I eat), and it seems to give me amazing recovery, better than other calorie equated foods. I don't know what it is with ghee, and wonder if there's any research and/or anecdotal acceptance about it?

Fat is good for hormone regulation and it has lots of calories of course. Salt rehydrates the body. Isn't that all?

However, there will be a point for everyone, where you need to increase your volume in order to continue facilitating new muscle growth. We must continue to overload the muscle or the same mechanical tension will cease to be effective.

@A cat named Scamper no that's not gonna be the same, ideally a lifting partner, or you can homebrew a foot release system hooked into a cable that you can hit a hard iso, hit the release and repeat

Has anyone measured a true before and after of this kind of training? I see a lot of people crapping on Yates and Mentzer these days saying all genetic blah blah blah (as if arnie has ad genetics) but it only makes sense. I never grew doing 4x10 crap. It wasn't until I started hitting heavy amraps that I s aw any growth. And a whole host if strongmen and lowerlifters do 90% plus intensity and are huge. When the winter hits I was thinking of giving strongman a break and hitting a solid 12 weeks of these kind of techniques.

Man is factually incorrect, eccentric contractions produce more tension than isometric. So much data is supporting that.
