My largest, and probably most absurd commission to date, this 10-1/2-foot-wide chandelier features 175 canning jars, 60 chains made of cutlery, and over 1400 beer bottle caps. The entire fixture is lit with LED-filament bulbs to mimic incandescent lights while conserving power. It weighs an estimated 350-400 pounds and draws less than 5 amps.
It was constructed for Quincy's Chicken Shack in Coppell, Texas, which shares a building with the Twisted Root Burger location that houses my enormous beer bottle chandelier. Stop by at 505 Houston St. to see them both in person! (goo.gl/maps/MhDJHoauYzq).

I just stumbled upon your channel (I really am not sure how because I watch gaming channels and such) and I absolutely love it. I've been marathoning a few of your videos, and it gives me peace to just watch you work. Your projects are phenomenal by the way. I know absolutely NOTHING about this kind of stuff so it's also intruiging, haha. I also freaked out a little bit because I've been to that restaurant and the Twisted Root that's right next to it. I remembered marveling at the chandeliers because they look so cool!! Now I know who made them! (a fellow Texan here) I know I wrote a super long comment, but I had a lot to say. Keep up the great work!

Genius idea on attaching the lamp holders to the conduit i wish they just made lamp holders like that in the first place. LEDs are amazing, 5 freaking amps?? That's chump change that's only 600 watts less then a toaster. In the 90s this would have been a space heater 😂

When building something like this and having it installed in a commercial space what regulatory requirements are there? Do you have to get it like UL certified or just inspected by the local electrical inspector? When selling what liability do you assume or is it all placed on the business owner? I have made some lamps, but since they just plug in and not hard wired they fall under a different code and also they are not installed in a commercial space. Love the work and love seeing your processes.

i applaud you for taking on that job, and no doubt t's really something to look at. that came out really nice. great job. i do have a question...where does one buy bendable plywood? it looks like wood, is it?
@WesleyTreat
@WesleyTreat 7 лет назад
Thanks! It's hard to believe it's been a year since we hung it. Bendable ply is just like regular ply, except the grain of the layers all goes in one direction instead of alternating. See if you have a real lumberyard in your area and give them a call. The big box stores don't carry it. It comes with the grain running either one way or the other, bending into either a barrel or a column. Rockler carries "Neatform Bendy MDF," which also bends, but it uses lots of kerfs cut into it to make it flexible. www.rockler.com/1-4-neatform-bendy-mdf

Very Cool! One question; are you concerned about the heat build up inside the jars from the heat of the bulb?
@WesleyTreat
@WesleyTreat 5 лет назад
They were low-power LED bulbs, so there was very little heat.

Nobody ever thinks about how they're going to clean it when they build things like this. All those nooks and crannies for dust to build up on. It'd weigh twice as much after a year from the dust accumulation.

Wesley Treat Thanks for the response! I was thinking when I first saw the video that the lights were incandescent, and I thought the power draw had to be ridiculous. I should learn to read the description before commenting!! :)

2 hot pockets on a paper plate in a rotating microwave. Full power 1:35. Adjust positioning slightly. Full power 1:30. Take a stick of cold butter and rub up and down on all sides until drenched. Half a teaspoon of paprika. 1/4 teaspoon of rubbed sage. Sprinkle of ground coriander. Sprinkle of garlic powder. Let it sit for about two minutes to even out the heat and not burn the hell out of your mouth. Still depressing, but in a different, yummier way. There's a lot of boring makers making videos. To me, this is a great balance of info and entertainment.
