These are the final vehicles to be made for the Corris layout, which is nearing completion, and they're an icon of the prototype. This video shows how I make them up, including scratchbuild slate loads.
Cheers

Thanks for a really superb series of vids. Re: Waggon numbers (always with 'double g' on the Corris). AFAIK, almost all slate waggons, incl. the trestles, were quarry owned. The brake van and coal waggons certainly had GW numbers, though can't recall seeing any photos showing waggon numbers in independant days.
@GWilliamsonModels
@GWilliamsonModels 11 месяцев назад
Thankyou, yes I might go back and sort the wagons, for the Corris series, I’ve just used ‘freelance’ numbering, as it’s more of a Corris-style layout as a whole so I could fit it in an unrealistic space, however, the next series is a prototype replica so the numbering will be correct

@@GWilliamsonModelsif you decide to build a Falcon, have a close look at the blower pipe on photos of No.2. There's a pronounced kink over the front end of the saddle tank. It's one of those "how the hell did I manage to miss that" details you'll never unsee!! Some reckon the cab roofs (specifically a bead) and spectacle rims differentiate Nos 1 and 3, but I'll be damned if I can see it! Incidentally, one source I have suggests that surviving No.3 is an amalgamation of Nos. 1 and 3, NOT all three, as No.2 was still being pressed into service in the mid 1920s, either until No.3's rebuild was completed, or No.4 got it's boiler issues sorted (new boiler after just 8 years?? ..... wonder if it was a Kerr Stuart 'warranty job', or has anyone has found an order number to confirm that?). No.2 at least also featured a removable sloping upper back cab sheet. No.3's cab rear only became a stepped fixture after it's 1920's rebuild. Her driver really ought to have a long, drooping moustache (see loads of old photos). Oh .... and foxgloves ..... oodles of foxgloves!!

@@TheHoveHeretic brilliant, Thankyou for that, it’s funny how you miss something until it’s pointed out! I noticed this when I started volunteering on the TR, and got really up close to the engines! Ah yes, fox gloves, I’ll have to try making these!

Another fantastic build! You're not doing my urge to buy more Corris stock from Dundas any good... Chomping at the bit to see what becomes of the Bachmann "Sir Handel" in the next few months (assuming he releases on time). A proper Corris Falcon can't come a moment too soon in my opinion. I'd like to thank you especially for showing off the technique of gluing a handle to the bottom of stock for easy painting. Tried that recently on a couple of OO gauge kits (destined to be lettered "NWR" 😉) and it worked a treat. Not sure I'm brave enough for the "baptism by black sludge" weathering trick yet though...! Looking forward to future videos/projects!

Brilliant to hear! Yes I can’t wait for the falcon, no doubt fourdees will do a decent body for it. Yes a few people have been on the fence trying the black bath, once you’ve had a go, it’s not so intimidating. Best of luck with your adventure

Are the Bachmann Thomas HO n30 slate cars even remotely realistic? Also what scale Model U figures do you use, 1/87 or 1/76? Thanks, because of your videos I have become addicted. 😊
@GWilliamsonModels
@GWilliamsonModels 10 месяцев назад
The bachmann slate wagon are very nice, but I think you would want to weather them for realism! The Modelu figures are 1/76 for 4mm scale, hope this helps!

Hi George, having only discovered your Great channel yesterday, i have wasted no time in watching your entire 009 series of videos.. what an absolute treat and delight. I have recently sold off my OO gauge and was very tempted to dive into 009, especially as i still have a nice rainy day drawer full of Wills and Ratio kits. I must admit that i was quite hesitant about dipping my toe into the 009 scale as i thought i may really struggle with adjusting .. but with your amazing videos and very detailed explanations it has really boosted my confidence. I aim to head off to my local modelling shop tomorrow and begin my new 009 adventures. So many wonderful welsh narrow gauge lines out there to be inspired by but my first thoughts were streamlined to Glynn valley, Tallylyn and Corris. Can i please ask.. were the parkside kits fairly simple to build. Having watched how you weather your rolling stock.. can i suggest perhaps using the Citadel washes from warhammer.. they do a black wash called Nuln oil and a very effective one called Agrax Earthshade .. i have used these for some years now and always achieved some good results with them. I have also used Army Painter Warpaints quickshades, by recommending these i hope it would make the ink washing part of weathering easier for you. Thank you so much for creating such brilliant video's and for making modelling 009 So much more appealing. I look forward to seeing future videos. Take care, keep well and Happy Modelling 😉👍 Best wishes Dan

Hi there! Great to hear you’re enjoying the channel! Lots more where this has come from! Yes, Dundas models are brilliant kits. The Corris and Talyllyn kits were orgionally ‘Rodney stenning’, but Dundas have now taken them on. They’re simply to build, as in you only really need very basic tools to hand. Just take you’re time and you’ll do a great job! If you do have any other questions, I’m always here to help

@GWilliamsonModels Thanks George greatly appreciated. I have subscribed to your channel and will follow with great interest. I am still not fully decided on which narrow gauge line to draw inspiration from .. May even dip my toe into the Skarloey Railway, having been a huge Thomas fan when I was a lad .. still kind of stuck with me. having a son also helps with keeping the interest going, not that I need any encouragement. Anyways many thanks to you George and for your kind words of encouragement. Happy Modelling 😉👍

Yes, quite possibly, it’s usually very thin so doesn’t take much to remove it
