Really enjoyed the fact that you didn't go TOO cheap I feel like not many people realise how much harder it is to get a good crunch tone (eg pretty much any John Mayer song) compared to heavy distortion so I completely get spending a bit more than you would think on the drive. PS my two drives are an original Mk1 and a TC El Cambo, and the TC is an amazing TS10 copy for no more than £30!!! blends beautifully with my BB and nails all the Mayer tones as well as any solos I do with my own band
The Keeley tone workstation can replace 3 of the 5 pedals and add a compressor as a bonus. Was also used by John. If I'm not mistaken the original concept was designed for him or something like that.
Do you own the tone workstation? What’s your experience? I tried a Keeley Aria once and the noise floor of the compressor was unbearable. What’s the compressor portion of the Workstation like, quiet or noisy? I def like all the options it would provide.
@gamerblazer No I don’t own one. However I do own the Monterey and that one is noisy to, also when bypassed. Pedal does sound okay though. However Keeley is a renowned builder so I would suggest you find one second hand and experiment. If you don’t like it you can always flip it without a real loss. That’s how I go about it at least.
@@DGoetz26 I had the pedal for a bit when I was starting out. I was pretty new so don’t remember exactly on the sound of the compressor, but it overall was pretty noisy. May have been my power supply but I think that was a pretty common complaint. The other big downside was its size - the knobs and switches were so small, tough to move around.
@@DGoetz26I had the Aria for a few months, and yes, the comp was noisy, add the overdrive to it, unbearable! The drive side was only useable on one setting. Flipped it fast.
I purchased the Electro-Harmonix MOD 11 to tackle #5 since it has 11 modulation effects built into one pedal including Q-Tron, Phaser, Chorus, Flanger, and Univibe. Great content as always
One that wasn’t really mentioned that I would recommend is a fender the bends compressor. Or a Keeley compressor plus. That sustain like you get on out of my mind is so good and amazing with a nice compressor pedal
I've literally just done this exact project. I managed to get a v1 katana fir 100 gbp, Marshall bluesbreaker 2, ts5, reissue ad9, DD7, TR2. Those other options for the 'fifth spot' gives a great list of pedals to pick up next to start fleshing out a whole continuum board.
If you're wanting to get closer, I'd ditch the B.B2 since it's a different circuit, and go with the Blues Blaster by "Blammo!" pedals. I picked one up and it sounds amazing... an exact copy of a BBv1 with a couple slight mods for reliability and less noise... and the mod is optional via toggle button.
@@abnzg I ordered mine straight from the company. "Blammo" is a one man outfit that hand-builds in batches and his career was soldering and populating circuits for the aerospace industry. I ordered mine on Friday and had it the next week... and it was well worth $150... ESPECIALLY since the BB1 is unobtainable, the b.b2 is a different circuit, and the King of Tone, Morning Glory, etc are only about 20% of the original bb circuit
Cool upload and great choices. Would've loved to see how the Xotic super clean would perform as the clean boost - it's super versatile and sounds great. But, for 70 bucks, the katana mini is definitely a great choice. Keep it up!
if you run out of ideas, can you kindly consider making a video to describe the tone for 'wait til tomorrow' from the 'Live in LA' recordings? The tone used for his solo is so beautiful yet i have seen a fair few videos with a variety of pedals. Wonder what your thoughts on the pedal used are. Thank you :)
You just reminded me of something at the end of your video. Is there anything that emulates the adrenalinn pedal for bigger than my body? I figured you were definitely the guy to ask! 😀 I almost want to suggest to Roger Linn that he release that preset as its own pedal. I'm sure he will still make money off of it lol
-Do you think the JHS tube screamer does a better TS10 tone than say a TS9 or TS808? -What are your thoughts on the Mooer Blues Crab for a BluesBreaker clone? -Thoughts on compression or buffers?
Hey Justin, I sell (build) an exact replica of the first version of the bluesbreaker circuit on REVERB, HEADLIGHT FX BRITISH DRIVE, go check it out its really great at a really great price compare to other boutique pedals. and in my opinion a lot better (Its the 100% same circuit as the original)
What do you think is the best pedal to reproduce octave fuzz like belief,i dont need no doctor? (other than micro synth). Please seriously consider and reproduce!
Am I crazy or didn't he use a Keeley modded Blues Driver (wouldn't need the mod for this "budget" board) during this era? Or was it just for the Trio album/shows specifically?
Hey Justin, have you ever looked into the Snouse BlackBox 2 as a Blues Breaker pedal alternative? Curious if you have any thoughts on it? I have it, the Stage Pro Mod version which has external switching options, but I have NEVER played a real Blues Breaker to compare with. :) Understandably, it’s a premium product, maybe not for a $500 board, but for a higher end board maybe. Love your channel! Gabe (from Australia).
Before I got booted from the Lounge on Facebook the general consensus was that the new Nano Q Tron wasn’t really capable of the right sound and the Plus was the only way to go. Since it’s been out longer now, have the right setting been found to make the Nano a contender?
Watch this at the 3 min mark, nothing beats the Plus but it can do the effect decently! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PCBZaV5YZ1M.html
It’s an octave fuzz. I’m not a JM gear expert but I think he was linked to the Fulltone Octavio around that time. There are plenty of variants though so shop around.
It’s an old big box Micro Synth. If you want that effect all I’ll say is I wouldn’t buy the new one, it’s awful. I haven’t experimented with other pedals for that sound to give a proper suggestion but maybe I should!
@@JustinJeske maybe it was only in the studio but Josh Scott (JHS) seems to think there's univibe on the song. Would make sense if he doesn't use it live as it's so subtle it probably wouldn't even be audible in a live setting. There is definitely trem all over the song listening back lol.
