I hear people ask "Why are the old 50's Les Paul's so great? Their answer is right here in this video series! His attention to the neck fit at the pocket gave me the chills!😁Love seeing that kind of perfection! So much more hands on craftsman work was done in the old days! It is not just about "Old wood" as some suggest, but a combination of things that made them magical! I think this guy gets that and can reproduce it!
Your comment on "this is the art of guitar making" is absolutely spot on. I'm sure some would argue hide glue over titebond, I would argue that to a certain extent I'd rather have a luthier craft joints like this and use whatever glue. To craft joints like this AND use gules that they used in the Gibson factory in the 50's would be even better.
That's just amazing. I'm ashamed to say I would've called that heel/shoulder fit done before you even started fine tuning it. This inspired me to do better, thanks! :)

Hi Freddy. very very nice work. i thought i invented that Tenon Jig ha ha ha. i'm waiting to see how you handle installing the binding at the horn. i just did 2 les pauls and i always have a bit of a black line in that area. when are we expecting the next video ? cheers

@@babayaga9102 I suppose you mean the end of the neck tenon? No, not a problem....that would be an end grain to end grain joint which is completely weak and useless anyway. No reason to try to fit that tight.

I FIND IT PRETTY MUCH ELIMINATES THE CHANCE OF THE ROUTER TEARING THE CORNERS OFF. JUST THE WAY I DO IT, I KNOW IT'S AN EXTRA STEP BUT WITH HOW METICULOUS YOU ARE I FIGURED I'DE SHARE THE IDEA WITH YOU.
I SEE YOU GOT YOUR HANDS ON ONE OF THE COVETED STEAL GIBSON HEADSTOCK TEMPLATES. I KNOW WHERE YOU GOT THAT, I GOT ONE TOO I HAD TO WORK FOR IT HAHA. WELL WORTH IT SPECIALLY WITH THE CORRECT LOGO PLACEMENT AND TUNER HOLES.
Amazing work, Freddy! Love this series. One question: The two lower corners of the headstock are normally angled back and not square (as in not perpendicular to the headstock but perpendicular to the face of the neck). Do you intend to do that at a later step?
Interesting that you don't use the bottom lip on the neck tennon I've noticed a lot of people doing that, is there a reason? Great hand work by the way and this is a question not an insult by any means your skills speak for themselves. Thanks for sharing your great build videos.
Thanks PH. Yes it's amazing how you can feel the slightest imperfection before you can even see it. No more Hentors. The main reason is that the non fine tuner Floyds are no longer made in Germany, and the quality is nowhere near what it used to be.
I am fitting one of those non tine tuner floyds tomorrow as it happens for a customer of mine, I love the way they feel - with a well cut nut and locking tuners they are a nicer feel I think to a double locking one. I did not realise they did not use the schaller german factory any more. I know the Floyds on most guitars now are the chinese/korean versions. The base plates just are not the same as they are bent and not cast/machined. I think I am going to have to do my own Hentor - would you be prepared to answer some questions about it if I email you (at your convenience)?
Hey COUGAR, what makes you think it's not flat? Maybe because the edges are all beat up? It is a block of laminated cork. I constantly flatten the bottom of it with sandpaper affixed to my table saw top. It's flat. Thanks for watching!
