When I built Artoria, I made Strength her highest ability score at 20 and Excalibur a type artifact known as Sunsword (feel free to look it up in the 5th edition DMG if you aren’t familiar with it’s stats)
I was planning on building Saber as an Oath of the Ancients Paladin multiclassed with Divine Soul or maybe even Clockwork Soul Sorcerer to make Excalibur with Sunbeam, but I think this is way more fitting. The Hexblade levels make a lot of sense and Hexblade Paladin multiclass is always strong.
Actually, Tricky, two things about multiclassing. One: multiclassing into a Paladin doesn't give you a skill proficiency from the Paladin list. The only three classes that let you do that are the Bard, the Ranger, and the Rogue. And two: you still would need the Strength score of 13 to multiclass, regardless of if you are going for Warlock first or Paladin first. Other than that, pretty solid build.
Mistakes have been made - i think I actuallly looked on the ranger list on the multiclass table cause he is right below the paladin and basically list the same things+ one skill from your class list. Anyway you don't really lose muh by not taking persuasion (of course would be preferable to have) And the build is made with multiclassing requirements in mind so yeah doesn't really change anything^^
I'm loving the new set up you got going on here for these D&D builds! Can't wait to see more! (Also, I would love to see a Cu Chulainn and/or a Diarmuid build... just putting that out there.)
I like your build, though I can't help but chuckle at the thought of a bootleg Dragonborn Fighter Saber who would use their freaking breath attack as Excalibur.
Edit - Defense is unlikely to apply to Mage Armor since it requires physical armor in the first place. However you can achieve the same result with UA Mariner, plus extra mobility.
@@destroyerinazuma96 Yeah, it looks like Fizban's Treasury of Dragons is going that extra mile to make the Dragonborn worth playing. They're now divided into 3 main sub species- Chromatic, Gem, and Metallic. The breath weapons of all Chromatic Dragonborn are a 5 X 30 foot line regardless of element while Gem and Metallic breath weapons are both 15' cones. Gem Dragonborn's elements are all pretty unconventional choices - Force, Radiant, Necrotic, and .... I want to say Thunder damage? All breath weapons now start at 1D10 damage, which starts off a little weaker, but it quickly out paces the original 2d6 in damage scaling and it only replaces one attack instead of taking a full action, so PC's with multi attack can breath easier. Breath weapons can now be used a numer of times = to your proficiency bonus per long rest. Also, each sub species got a unique ability besides their breath weapon, but I'm not really clear on what it is besides Metallic's getting some sort of extra knock back shout, and the Gems were some sort of psychics.
When I built it I wasn’t going for Fate saber but for the King Arthur so I made it a warrior paladín and make Excalibur. He was an npc and later become the biggest treat to the world, but not the BBEG
nah he only did Gil and Iskander so far -the video is certainly inspired by his stuff (like my first on Emiya) - but i tried to change a few things about the presentation
With Tasha's cauldron if Arthuria's dm is nice perhaps she will find a barrier tattoo. They require concentration but imitate studded leather, half plate, or full plate. Otherwise I might have gone +2 dex earlier. 16 AC is still kinda low for a front liner but it's not aweful. Adding a cloak of protection would bump up those sweet saves and grant you +1 a.c.. One thing to note you technically can't stack mage armor with the protection style since its not technically armor but I would suspect most dms would wave that.
oh yeah that's a bit of a mistake on my part. Take Great Weapon Fighting or Dueling instead then - whatever floats your boat XD And hey if you roll for stead you could end up lucky and get an 18 in Dex XD
Saber? Who is that??? I have no idea!...yeah...no idea whatsoever. But seriously nice topic. I love her because of her character matching quite a lot with mine.
I know this is late but another thing about Hx warrior, you take Hexblade to level 3 and pick pact of the blade the shape of the weapon or it’s properties no longer matter so if you think Excalibur a great sword that’s how you get one and still smack your foes with Charisma strikes.
Seems pretty solid. The only thing I'd have done differently is switching the STR and CON scores for durability that's a bit more accurate to the character. Lancer might be an interesting choice for the next build.
Great video though I wonder would you be willing to do other franchises and not just Anime but video games and other such franchises. And for me the servant I want you to build would be Mordred mostly just because I want to see some funny high jeans from people playing Mordred and Artoria in Dungeons & Dragons.
Maybe I do other things eventually but for now I stick with Fate. And I probably wait a bit with Mordred since well her build is somewhat similiar to Artoria - different enough top validate it's own video but probably shouldn't be the very next^^
@@zachbahamutson5477 Honestly for Mordred I would just replace Oath of the Ancients with Oath of Conquest and make Clarent a great sword, swapping Mage Slayer for Great Weapon Master. If you absolutely don't want it to be a Paladin, I'd say Warlock 5 to get Eldritch Smite invocation and the rest Zealot Barbarian.
@@RantingRagingRelks I personally would have went with a hexblade, mostly because we could play it off as Mordred opposing Artoria in ideology on chivalry.
If you want to get the long yet still abridged version: "So technically Artoria isn't dead yet. She made a contract with the world to become a counter guardian simliar to Emiya - only the terms of her deals was that she would only become a counter guardian when she obtains the Holy Grail. This mean that Artoria exist outside of time, frozen in a moment shortly before her death. Her Spirit then gets summoned to fight in holy grail wars in different time periods as a Servant but since she isn't actually dead she can't use her spirit form. History however moved forwards regardless of that, assuming that Artoria received the Holy Grail at some point and then died. Due to these special circumstances she experiences all Holy Grail War she participates in in person and thus keeps her memories of these Holy Grail Wars, whereas other Servants are essentially just copies of the Heroic Spirits they are based on and don't keep their memories of previous summons - udner normal circumstances - something that doesn't quite hold true in FGO. At the end of the Fate route she decides to break her contract with the World and instead of dying and becoming a heroic spirit she moves to the realm of Avalon, keeping with the idea of the once and future king. After her death in Heaven's Feel she presumably just goes back to the moment of her death waiting for the next holy grail war. What happens with her after UBW is a bit uncertain - she kinda rejects the holy grail there but apparently doesn't break her contract entirely. Adding to that she has the potential to become a Heroic Spirit even without the contract with the world - and given that the throne of heroes exist outside of time and space this is presumeably why she can be summoned as a heroic spirit in FGO and Fate/Extella I guess. And THEN there are versions of her from different timelines and parallel worlds like her lancer Counter Part or actually male Arthur"
@@TrickyFox93 I wouldn’t call those summoned by the grail as copies of the original from my understanding, it’s more along the lines of when an heroic spirit is summoned a scoop of the much larger soul is picked up and dragged to the Saint graph, grand Saint graphs can hold the entire thing which is why they’re so strong. Now then when they die or return victories to the throne the soul rejoins with the greater part and loses its individuality and during another summoning if the same part or part of the old is scooped up memories remain though fragmented or foggy depending on how much of the same portion was taken.
making build based on FGO gameplay alone is a bit difficult - not much to work with there. Maybe once she plays a proper part in the story and they elaborate on her abilities a bit more. In the meantime I would just suggest to run her as a draconic sorcerer^^
Putting that many levels in paladin is in my opinion the best fit for her (and it has great synergy with Hexblade) But an alternative build would be to make her a Cleric instead - a Cleric would get access to Holy Weapon around level 9 - also would allow you to get water walk which is like a minor thing Artoria should have but I couldn't quite fit into the build
Maybye Cú, sigfrid or Hercules next? I imagine Lancelot and Iskander are tough ones so... Great video by the Way, im totally using it, I always wanted to do a fate campaing
Well Tulok the Barbarian already did Gil and Iskander so I won't bother with them unless I get an Idea to do them differently - and he already seems to be rather upset that I copied his format in my Emiya video. Got some ideas for Cu and Herc and at least thought a bit about Lancelot. I might do Siegfried and other Apocrypha Servants later
@@TrickyFox93 oh, he did iskandar? good to know, but, like, did he tell you he was upset? i hope this gets viral so you keep doing less known servants like caster cú or Artoria, good luck!
@@pablogr6960 he didn't tell me directly but ya know a day after I uploaded my Emiya video he tweeted that he won't do anymore Fate characters and another couple of days later he said that it is cool for people to do their own character build videos but that he really doesn't like when people copy his format - so either I hit a nerve somewhere or i just had really bad timing
I might look into Lantoria once the second Camelot Movie is out - though while I have an idea for an alternative Lion King build there is a point to be made that you can just pick this one here and take a lance instead of a sword - already accounted for the horse after all. Castoria - I would like there to be more information than her FGO skillset and Servant Profile - only got a rough idea what I would do Merlin is on the list somewhere^^
Hi mate, would you be able to do a Enchanted Knight of Dragon Age Origens (Like vivianne)? I believe would be hexblade but it will be combine with what?
Pretty good video. Personally, I think Saber would actually work better (In terms of both accuracy and viablity) as a War Cleric rather than a Paladin, with a few more levels in Warlock for Thirsting Blade and some spells. This is for a few reasons: *Mana Burst and Divine Smite aren't exactly 1:1. Mana Burst is closer to Eldritch Smite, while there's an entirely separate skill that no version of Artoria has for enhancing attacks with radiant energy. *Paladins (At least excluding a specific subclass that dosn't work for Artoria) don't get Guiding Bolt, which is a borderline necessity for some early level sword lasers. *Paladins also can't get higher level beams like Sunbeam. *To put it simply, Cleric works far better for Artoria's Charisma (Ironically) and Avalon. Cleric gives you far more slots for spells similar to Artoria's Charisma skill like Bless and Aid, and gives you far more slots for Avalon-esque spells like Cure Wounds and Heal. *Even the spells you would get from Paladin, you get sooner. Even if you took 8 Warlock levels before going Cleric, you still would get Holy Weapon three levels earlier than you would in this build. And obviously you wouldn't do that. *The extra levels of Warlock give you some great and in-character spells. Blink works great for Avalon. Meanwhile, Intellect Fortress and Counterspell are more accurate to Magic Resistance than Paladin's auras (Albeit not as passive), since it only protects Saber unless the spell gets shut down outright, which Counterspell handles. *Clerics get Water Walk and Paladins don't, and Water Walk is one of Saber's established abilities. This is obviously the most important reason. *Also since Artoria dosn't do the whole "Turning people into ghosts that fight for her" thing, Feylock works better than Hexblade since getting more Warlock levels gets you another Ability Score Improvement and some good spells like Dimension Door for a command spell teleport. *Divine Intervention normally wouldn't make sense, but there's literally a force that empowers people in certain circumstances in Fate so it actually works. Also, the War deity in this case is supposed to be the Counter Force. As you said, Saber and Archer have the same patron, just it's not exactly Saber's patron in this case. I have the full build on the Tulok subreddit if you want to see exactly how my version comes together: www.reddit.com/r/BuildingCharacter/comments/ln21y0/how_to_create_artoria_pendragonsaber_fatezero/
I like your build idea, but I'd swap Cleric with Divine Soul sorcerer for better stay synergy, since Divine Soul Sorcerer gets access to the Cleric spell list for spells but with Charisma as spellcaster ability.
@@thesmashor4396 That's fair, but you do get Quickened spell and sorcery points to be able to potentially do more bonus action spells so over the day could end in more attacks
