My yellow lab was a lifesaver. I got him right after my wife passed. I didn't have much time to grieve. He's 7 years old now and right now he's sleeping at my feet...totally inseparable! You deserve good company and now you have it 24/7!

I raised GSPs and I can tell you puppies are a lot smarter than people think. Beginning at about 5 weeks they were beginning training. I wanted my pups to be house ready. By the time they were 8 weeks old they came to the common name puppy, puppy, knew that quail in a cage was something to seek out and stare at, some even achieved that point. I raised my pups in the house so you can imagine it was important that scheduling feeding and water supply was important. Be sure to train him to DROP IT! Especially for free roaming dogs with access to everything. Train that now as the older they get, the less likely it will 'take' . Also study the relationship of both wild canines and domestic dogs to their dog families. Sometimes people humanize their dogs and the dog then believes they are the pack leader.

Dogs can smell the chemicals in medications. Also be sure the vermicides and dosage amounts in that treatment are suitable for his breed. You can just look that up quickly on the web. You should never just trust anything or anybody 100 % of the time. Some herding breeds especially cannot tolerate large dosages of ivermectin based medications.

He is so adorable. When you want him to go to his stuff, give it a name. My dog knows kennel, bed, outside, etc just with the one word. Every time we want him to go the those we would say go to bed, go to kennel and now he knows. We say “leave it” very firmly when we want him to not mess with something.

That eagle is hunting that pup. I once had a small dog about 10# picked up by a very large redtail. Luckily the inital drop didn't disable the dog and the hawk saw me come running and the dog fought and escaped a terrible fate. Had in been an eagle it woukd have ended differently. I have a farm in the boonies and the hawks are always checking out my pasture, dito for the vultures which I don't trust around small animals either. I have seen eagles protecting a carcass from coyotes of a deer all winter, not migrating, Liiving where I do I get to see things others think are impossible. Look up Corid, I always have dome on hand.

My last dog actually fell asleep when at the gun range (similar to yours) while getting her nails dremmeled down. When a pup has total trust in you they will be OK with everything you are OK with. When she 'found' a porcupine I had to pull quills out of her tongue and roof of her mouth. She just stood with her mouth open the whole time. Hurt like he'll, but trusted me so much she never even closed her mouth in pain. There is no "right way" to train a pup. Every one responds differently. My current dog has zero food drive. So training with treats doesn't work. She lives for belly rubs. So that's what we work with.

I love the creativity that you have. It is fun watching the small projects for the pup when the weather isn't condusive to larger projects. I am looking forward to better weather and a return to the kitchen build, but the pup is a great distraction. I understand that you are trying to provide good content for your viewers, I just feel bad for you that some of your viewers don't realize how much you actually do for them!

I used to teach puppy kindergarten classes and you are doing it right! When he is distracted call "Kyler come"! And yes bend down or run backwards to encourage him. Lots of treats in the beginning and as he learns over the next few weeks start to gradually decrease treat frequency. Be sure to surprise him with them occasionally though! Oh, and it's ok if he stops and thinks a few seconds…if he still comes reward! 😊

I have learned to use words that I don't use in normal day-to-day speaking. Ended up using military commands. That way when I say something like 'come on, man' I don't have a 70 pound dog rushing me from behind. And also if someone with bad intentions tries to get my dog to sit she knows it doesn't apply to her. Just a tip. Hope it helps. You have a very smart pup. Make sure to always give her brain something to do.

you could possibly look at a Geo fence collar for him for a fence free roam area. You set the area in that he can roam freely and once close to the area boundary, the collar vibrates to warn and ramps up to become more uncomfy the closer they get etc and also see where he is on a preset map too and that pretty much is it provided there is gps reception.. they are not cheap though. love the new puppy cave! looks awesome.

An alternative could be a mobile (on roller/wheels) pen that is at least ten by ten or say five (5) or six (6) by eight (8) or ten (10) with floor or deck inside (no Top) . You could have him close yet safe and not closed in. You could also put a small "cage/cave" in one spot/corner.

The bone thing bad about my border collies they freaked out in thunder n lighting or thunder storms so its good if their on a leash when that happens to just totally freak out. I dunno if its their breed or what but they got really scared and would run off n Id have a heck of a time finding them and my female normally stayed in the yard but would run to the city shop I never kept her on a leash.

What a cutie batootie!! He can understand english so be sure to show and assign names to things. when its kennel time. say kennel time. you can call his little outdoor bed 'home base' or some trainers say 'place'. My dog knows the meaning of 'get up here and lay/sit down' lol when I offer her a spot on a chair by me. Im not sure if you have seen the What about Bunny, channel the dogs have conversations with their buttons. these buttons for dogs cat's and birds are so amazing!!! Billy speaks is a cat that talks to owners with buttons. Bunny the dog asks questions. its totally crazy how smart they really are. Love that you are working with him early. now you got bones laying everywhere too careful letting him out something big could be attracted into camp. your gonna have to build a building just to store all his food lol. i like a little fence idea around the cabin then you can just let him out at night with that little extra layer. we put little bells on the fence perimeter so we know if anything is messing around trying to get inside. bells on the gate. if you put bells on your door inside the house somewhere by the entry way he can be trained to ring the bell to go outside... that is if you dont end up with buttons everywhere for him to talk to you lol. I just love that you got your puppy

When he is not active you want him off the ground anyway, so, build a thin deck out of scraps and rails/limbs, put dirt/saw dust over it and the fence around it. It will accomplish two things, it will keep him isolated out of the way and away from trouble, it will also keep him up off of the cold ground. Just make sure that there is space under the "deck."
