We live in Oregon, got this ice barrel 2 years ago. Got a new industrial ice machine installed in the garage for it same day. But over time, got too tedious throwing ice in. We followed these steps last week and other than a bum pump that i since had replaced by Amazon, it’s amazing. Thank dude, god bless.

Thanks for this video, it was extremely helpful! Your discount code helped as well, and I just got my new plunge up and running today. If anyone is interested, I used a few 3/4 uniseals for the 1.25” hole I drilled into barrel for IN/OUT tubes and they fit nice and perfect. I also purchased a dual extension cord uniseal plug for another separate hole I drilled for the cords. It turned out very clean looking. Thanks Maus, and cheers everyone!

Thanks for the idea! I ordered the chiller from Amazon that David recommended and wondered about the holes. I was going to use duck tape, but uniseals look a lot better! Can you attach a pic of your set up? And did you have to go 1.25 for the seals to fit? What size bit did you use for the cords?

Hey David, thanks for your insight and great set up. I'm thinking of a small improvement. If you use two 90 degree 3/4 elbows on your filter inside the barrel, you can then drill two small holes on the inside overjang lip and zip tie the filter flush and level with the overhanging lip. This would look great and the house wouldn't crimp the hose or imped the flow. I'm going to use your set up when i get an ice barrel. Thanks again.

External pump should be fine if the barrel is filled, check the NPSHr of the pump that's the Net Positive Suction Head Required. That's highest level of the water line in a reservoir to the suction joint/valve of the pump. The inner hose diameter of the pump on the suction side should always be bigger than the discharge to prevent cavitation or other issues.

I’m going to have to move it to a shady spot. I have heard from a few people that ended up spending the premium for the 1hp chiller say it keeps the temp at whatever temp them want with zero issues, even if it’s in the sun so I think I’m going to order it and see. I like the idea there with the cold plunge. I can't understand why you would put yourself at unnecessary risk by using a submersible pond pump. I would suggest using a cheap bestway pool filter/pump combo. The benefits are that you have a decent and easily replaceable filter and the electric cable is no where near the water. When your brother dunked himself deep into the water and it overflowed everywhere I was cringing. I know you said to turn off the pump before you get in.
