In this video I came across this old Lennox gas fired furnace that would not stay lit. After cleaning the flame sensor it still wouldn't stay lit. Turns out it had a faulty pressure switch. I'll show you how I tested to verify this issue. I also will show you how to install a universal pressure switch.

Enjoyed your troubleshooting. I have an older Lennox model air-handler so your tips will come in handy.

I had almost the exact same thing happening to my gas pack pack in January of this year. And of course it happened during an extreme cold snap. Less than 10 degrees. Burners would stay lit for about 8 to 10 seconds. Inducer motor would shut off then immediately start again and the cycle would continue. After it cycled that way a number of times the system would reset and shut off completely. Turned out it wasn't the flame sensor itself but the ground bond between the flame sensor mount and the unit frame. I had to take a wire brush to the flame sensor mount bracket as well the the unit frame where it attached to help with the bond. Although not sure why the sensor mount bracket needs to be grounded that way since the tip is isolated from the frame by the ceramic. But that fixed the issue completely.

Great video! I've always felt Lennox was over engineered. Just my opinion.

Great Video and diagnosis! I wonder, would you be able to clean the flame sensor in place, after you had removed the burners? Sometimes that can work

Wouldn't it make more sense, instead of pulling that sensor, to test it?

Probably, but if it test bad I would have had to take it apart. Plus it needed to be cleaned anyway.

umm, that's not how you adjust a universal pressure switch. you need a manometer, pump with bleeder Y and meter to adjust them to exactly the correct pressure of the switch you're replacing. also "tilting" that universal switch at any angle or position shouldn't change the set pressure, that's happening because it's way under adjusted with spring very loose flopping around. you often need the orifices to slow the flow so the switches don't bounce on burner ignition, which is usually on dual hose setups where they have a bleeder port(match the old switch) some companies have combo manometers, pump, testers to set them. not trying to be a know it all, just letting you that's not right.
