I always though it extremely odd that Alex spoke every day on phone to curtis smith for years. Apparently they were like brothers??.. a hot shot millionaire lawyer and a meth head??

Theyre family was so well known and influential in their area that it went to their head. The parents most likely never disciplined their kids and probably encouraged bad behavior. They all have a sense of entitlement, lack accountability or empathy.

In a way his action is what caused his entire family to fall apart. There was a trial coming up for Paul, and Alec thought his son's life and reputation would be ruined. In addition, the lawyer for the Beach family was suing him personally for $10M. This would have caused Alec's finances to be investigated and he knew his thefts were going to be discovered soon. If Buster hadn't given Paul his ID that night, none of this would have happened. Mallory would still be alive, and Paul and Maggie, too.

But, the excuse that Paul was being threatened and someone finally killed him and her too was really convenient. Paul was going to get convicted of negligent homicide and Alec knew that his son was going to prison for a long time. The other strange deaths need to be looked into.
