We were original owners of a 1986 Accord. The car was built to last. So sad so many were thrown away over simple issues. Those rubber trim pieces around the rear wheel arches alone killed off a lot of car. 😢
@@andydhillon1977 Land Rover Defenders imported to the USA had footwells that rusted from the inside out because the stupid factory floor mats had a foam backing that retained moisture (the interiors were uncarpeted on the soft top models).
Just bought my ‘86 LXi a few months ago. Absolutely love everything about the car. For my preference it doesn’t come anywhere close to comparing to newer modern cars. Will definitely keep it forever😁
@xorakonnabeat I recommend stocking up on any new OEM parts still available. They often come in handy. I have an older BMW that I plan on keeping for a long time. I've been stocking up on trim pieces that are still available.
I must admit, this car seems to be in very good shape for its age. I realize you still have some work that you'd like to do on it, but I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy seeing new videos of this particular model, especially since my late grandparents had a light blue 1989 Honda Accord LX sedan that they had for over 20 years. It wasn't used very much, though, but the interior and exterior were in terrific shape. It was given to one of my cousins before one of the tires wrapped around one of the axles, among other issues. That Accord had just over 137,000 miles before it was sold to a mechanic a few years ago. I think it's still alive and well somewhere, but I don't know. I miss that car so much.
Awesome thanks. It does have a bouncy idle but not everytime I stop. That makes sense. Let me know anything else. I’m going to refresh everything over the next year
I had A 1990 Honda Accord EX , I loved the huge windows, very low hood lines and the viability out was awesome!!! I put 197k miles on it and never a single problem!!!!! All the power windows worked, sunroof worked, the power antenna went up and down.. only major service issues were the timing belt and water pump service!!! I have to say I love HONDAS!!!
Very nice car! I just bought a 2005 Honda CR-V EX with the elusive 5 speed manual transmission. 200k one owner. Super clean, no accidents, and best of all no rust. I love it!
I agree, the 3rd and 4th gen Accords were definitely a high point for Honda. As ahead of their time as they were even being compared to the German brands, I can't help but wonder what Honda and the other Japanese manufacturers would have built since then if not for their big recession in the 90's.
That would be great. I plan to document and do all maintenance way ahead of schedules. Already done 2 oil changes and 3 trans changes and plan to change trans fluid every other oil change.
The double-wishbone suspension was amazing. Sadly, they dropped that in favor of the cheaper (and more compact?) setup almost every car uses today. And that dash is still gorgeous. Congrats on this low-mileage find.
Oh I’m a Mercedes fanboy till the end but I love cars and projects that make sense. Also love car history. This one will help me refresh my mind on my Benz projects. Sometimes it gets overwhelming and you need a different project to refresh your brain
Thank you and thanks for watching. I have a ton of content I’m editing. The car had some hidden stuff I found but have already fixed. Love this car and plan to keep and use as daily. Thanks for the content.
Yes it did and mine still works. The higher trim levels like mine were directed at Bmw. Much like Lexus made a car that many felt was superior to Mercedes and quality in price Honda did the same thing going after BMW.
So I have a 1989 handa accord lx, it has over 250000 miles on it and the engine stopped on me, it took 4 tried to get it to start, but wjen I got it a mile and a half down the road it died again, I'm curious if you know anything about it
I noticed a lot depends on these cars. Location is a big part. In tampa I almost bought one with 190k miles and carbureted for $3200. This one I talked down to $3k but I took a risk because it sat for a long time. Luckily this one has been very reliable. I would say in good condition lxi automatic under $5k is good and manual ones can go way up depending on condition.
I have one of these, its an 88, carbureted, 5 speed. Its in similar condition to this one only the paint is slightly worse. does anyone know if its anything special being pre fuel injection or if its worth more than $500? the only problem is the clutch is starting to slip a little but i have no use for it
Well first don’t ever sell a car for $500. I got $800 scrap the other week for a stripped down car and about $2k for parts I sold right away. Always sell parts and help someone save their car or sell as a whole car minimum $1200. People will tell you it’s worth nothing because they want to make money on it
@Pete’s Carport can't find any available so if you will part with one lmk be a happy camper keeping my baby alive lmk a cost and a way to pay and I got you
