They always go with the lowest bidder, but you can never take into account the quality of the products when doing so, which well, leads to situations where you get crappy shit that doesn't last long. And they ALWAYS choose the crappy shit, because you are required by law to get the cheapest bidder. And once you are locked in the contract, you can't get out it, and especially if the problems will only be found out later. That's a lretty standard feature on that type of equipment to the point where you wouldn't think to you'd need to look for it. To be clear your averafe purpose built chargers don't have much in the way of current protection either because they factor in the impedences of the device you are charging, but a general purpose power supply will just dump as much current as the circuit will let it, detonating whatever you power it up with, or maube causing a fire.

2:49 I have to say I had a pretty bad crash a few years ago in a Toyota Aygo and the airbags did not deploy either, but the assessor told me the car worked exactly like intended... the frame and some parts took most of the impact it almost acted like a crush core in the landing legs of a falcon 9... and he also told me the car knew the injuries from the airbag would have been greater than the injuries if it didnt deploy (the car has sensors to determine if the airbag should deploy in a fraction of a second) and it was actually right... I had minor bruises where the seat belt held me in place and my neck hurt a little but I was fine, same for the passenger... but the car looked even worse than the car shown here... I dont want to defend against the point you are trying to make here in general, but to be fair I dont think this airbag in the video malfunctioned... Would be interesting to see what injuries the passengers suffered...

Hi! Love your video - especially the "quirks and features" dig at 3:12! I just watched this after watching your last one about EVs and it's great! I've seen SO MANY BYD Atto cars around of late that I bought into the BYD hype, but you're right - I've never seen one on fire until I watched your video, they do a great job of covering up these videos. It's funny, because there a lots of videos of burning Teslas on Twitter. The only BYD issues I've seen discussed is how expensive the batteries are to replace. Like, people crash them, they need a new battery and the car is pretty much written off because replacing the battery would cost so much. I'll keep a keen eye on whether BYD fires make it into the news, especially now they are being sold outside of China quite a lot now. Glad you mentioned the bogus BYD sales figures at 6:38 - if you check out another channel called China Observer, they found footage of all the unsold BYD cars hidden on the upper floors of an unused building. @@Roads_of_Europe EV enthusiasts (at least those who are not sponsored by the CCP) would actually love to talk about such things, because facts and numbers don't actually undermine their beliefs, they actually prove them right. According to data, thermal engine cars are many times more likely to burst into flames than EVs (at least those not made in China by BYD), and their flames are often just as big and deadly. The fact you don't hear about it is because it would be too "common news" because this happens every day hundreds of times, so journalists don't talk about it. The reason why you hear a lot about EVs bursting into flames, is because you just need to look at who controls the media: lobbyists. And who are the lobbyists? Oil companies, as well as traditional thermal car companies like GM. They have every reason in the book to spread bad news on EVs. So of course they would make sensational news out of 1 or 2 Tesla's catching fire, but they will never mention the 100 other thermal cars that combusted before those 2 Tesla's did. If you are looking for sources, because I can't seem to share links on youtube for some reason, I can only tell you to look for them on Google online with "are EVs more liekly to burn?". On a website called the Car Expert UK, they come up with numbers from an american car insurance that counted 25 combustions of EVs for 100,000 units sold, compared to over 1,500 for 100,000 units sold for thermal engine cars. And even 3500 for hybrids (yeah those are not as good as Serpentza think they are).

@@southkoreausasmaster8805 This is such a flawed study. On average most ICE vehicles on the road are older than the average EV cars, a lot of ICE cars are also used for extremely long hours, like for Taxi jobs, delivery, etc. So far very few EV cars around the world have a lifespan of over 10 years while there are plenty of ICE cars over that limit. So it's only natural if ICE cars have more fire incidents. Also, Fire fighters hate battery EVs because although EVs have lower fire risks, they can still catch fire and when they do, it’s incredibly difficult to put them out. In fact, there is no way to put out an EV fire. You can do your best to supress the fire, but the EV will burn again hours later. There’s only one way to put out an EV fire - which is to temporarily snuff it out, and then find a way to quickly move the vehicle to a safe flat ground to dunk it into a pool of water or leave it to burn itself out in an open field (and emitting more toxic fumes). It is really2 dangerous. To me EV is such a myth. It's not as environmentally friendly as we thought & it is never going to be as cost efficient as an ICE. Our batteries aren't perfect, but battery manufactures in the US have a profit incentive to make the batteries high quality and reliable. The Chinese have no quality standards, and no profit incentive to improve quality, if it holds a charge they ship it - that's not how American batteries are made. @@smarseille7422 "I mean I had a broken airbag in my old car for ages and nobody cared." One year max. in Germany or Austria. Then you car is impounded. If one car burns they must make a recall - as Hyundai, Ford and Toyota had to do and replace the batteries. If they do not react they are forced by the KBA in Germany. If the chinese think they can get through with bad quality they will have a very abrupt and very bad awakening in a very short time. Tesla needed a few years to shed its bad reputation of batteries burning. VW still has a bad reputation of not beeing able to do Software. When BYD thinks they can get away with rusted cars, breaking safety systems or breaking bolts in the supsension, they should ask Toyota how that feels. Since when does a Dacia cost 72.000 Euros? Thats the price of the BYD Tang or Han. The Atto III with the small battery costs 43K. The large battery 46K. Just 400,-- less than a Model Y. And 7000,-- more than a Peugeot similar sized Peugeot E-208. That is NOT cheap. And that is certainly NOT chepar than their European competitors. Nio tries with high priced and low value vehicles. XPeng the same. High price but visibly low quality. Bad Software etc. MG sells actually quite good in the low priced segment. Quality and workmanship are worth the price. Polestar and Volvo (Geely) are quite reasonably priced for upper class luxury vehicles. BYD would have to deliver good quality for a reasonable price. Atto III 35K, Tang: 50K, Han: 40-45K, Dolphin 25K, Seal 50K. 8 years and 200.000km warranty on everything. Even better: Toyota gives you 1 Million Kilometers warranty. Thats why the BZ4X - in my opinion the worst EV from 2022 - sells so good in norway. They have much "Salz and Schmutz" (quote from Teslabjörn) and cars usually only last 3-5 years in those conditions. Toyota will have much repairs to do. But they let the customers pay for the privilege. I don't mind. Norwegians are rich, they shall pay.

Hi Winston, good you double down on the BYD case, it must be shown. A few words from a guy being in BEV business for a quarter of a century: You can get the Han as BEV and as plug-in hybrid, the majority is sold as PHEVs (keep in mind, people name hybrids very often battery vehicles, thus even journalists are confused). The shown BYD SUVs too, most likely are hybrids - this is why: Hybrids a more prone to catching fire by far than anything else on four wheels - a highly stressed battery next to a fuel tank is not an ideal combination. Followed by ICE cars (gasoline & Diesel), with the real BEVs catching much less often fire. The drawback: if a car with a medium to large Lithium-Ion battery (thus HEVs/PHEVs and BEVs) catches fire it is a challenge to stopping the fire. Certain battery variants are even trickier to stop due to re-igniting characteristics. Here we talk about ternary battery types, only. As long as there is no certainty about which model and variant BYD was on fire, it is tricky to point fingers towards the BYD blade battery, which is based on my information as safe as it is marketed for. Based on the footage, most of these cars were hybrids and they do not have the blade battery. You need to dig deeper resp. verify sources, I guess. BTW: Tesla uses BYD blades and these cars are known for the best battery safety ratings among Tesla cars. However, even the safest battery can be driven to fire and explosion - if the engineering and production of the managing electronic is bad. Which happens quite often on electric ships and boats since the responsible engineers and manufacturers have little clue about battery tech and design stuff they should not. And this is all kept quiet, too - since it is about the riches among the rich and they dislike such publicity. Regarding inflated registrations: so-called “one-day-registrations” are very much common in the automotive business, globally, and with most car manufacturers. Here where I live, in Stuttgart next to the HQ and factories of Mercedes, we see such happening on a monthly base. It is more the question how many of these cars end up being stored away and which finally are sold. In the USA, as of today with slowing sales, new car dealers have major troubles getting all the cars allocated to their dealerships and have to park somewhere. In Europe, we see a quick increase of “one-day-registrations”, too - all this indicating a bubble building up, but this bubble includes ICE and PHEVs/HEVs only - most BEVs are in high demand. In fact, I observe first US dealers going out of business, as we speak. And based on the information of my sources there are at least two airfields in the US where unsold cars are stored away. Is this any good? Now. Is this common? Oh, yes! Will we see small Chinese manufacturers going out of business because of this? Most likely. Cheers Nicolas

So the safest car in terms of fires would be a diesel then right? Diesel is not easy to ignite and in general I see nothing about diesel cars going up in flames just because its a diesel. BMW had a major recall in recent years regarding an issue with the EGR System which can cause a smoldering fire and an open underhood fire if not extinguished early enough. Root cause was a tendency of the cooler to internally leak coolant into the hot exhaust which somehow washes hot soot particles into the plastic intake. I'm sure they murdered the OEM over that 😅

@@MarvinHartmann452 no. Normal fire are very common with Diesel, too, as I mentioned below. The culprits usually are leaking piping, valves, injectors, and such: Diesel ignites not that quickly, but it certainly ignites on a hot engine and exhaust. China aside. I live in Poland, and they want us to buy EVs - period. Even though 80% of our electricity is made out of fossil fuels/coal. Even though Polish citizen makes around 36K PLN, the cheapest EV available on polish soil is (I believe) Dacia Spring - which costs (strats from) 106K PLN. So you'd have to somehow save 3 years worth of income, without spending a penny, and still drive a car that is polluting (80% of electricity out of coal etc.), and I'd be scared parking it at my place - not to mention drive it. Another thing - pollution wise - my car actually caught on fire once in its lifetime. Aaaaaaand... I AM STILL DRIVING IT! It needed new throttle body, set of injectors and respray of the bonnet/hood. All combined came up to about 5% of cars value. EV catching on fire? 1. You might not escape it, 2. It's gone completely. 3. It pollutes a s**t ton of - I am sure - very HEALTHY gas into the atmosphere. Don't get me wrong - I'm all in on being environment friendly - but not at such risk and cost. Why not going hybrid or hydrogen? AND WHEN WILL YOU BAN PRIVATE JETS for Tay Tay and other millionaires?

Making those batteries safe is a highly elaborate process, as the slightest contamination can short out the battery and release all of its anergy at once. I highly doubt those cars would get a street license in my country. (At least I hope so.)

Basically useless, battery fires are self contained (they contain both the fuel and oxidizer) and the cells are shielded against any extinguisher compounds. Class D is useful for metal fires that can strip the oxygen out of water. With battery fires you can only hope to stop the fire spreading to non battery stuff around them and keep the battery cells that haven't been compromised cool, water is perfectly fine for that.
