@joemarshall9047
@joemarshall9047 9 лет назад
I feel really sorry for Bonehead in a way. Yeah he was in the biggest band of the 90s. Yeah he's popular with fans of the band. But "it's not exactly Paul Macca leaving the Beatles" - Noel G? That's harsh. No Bonehead, No Oasis, simple as that. He may not be fucking Hendrix on the guitar but he played from the soul. Yeah Noel's good but he's not the best, and I reckon he's overrated as a guitarist. Yeah he writes good songs, I give him that but guitar wise it's pretty simple. I think Noel controlled the band too much and Bonehead should've been allowed to do more.

+Joe Marshall end of the day, the only people that make Oasis, Oasis are the Gallagher brothers. Everyone else in the band are and were interchangeable as seen.
@joemarshall9047
@joemarshall9047 8 лет назад
+StrettyHS 313 You're right about Noel and Liam being the big two mate, I agree. Since I wrote this comment I've listened to a lot more of Noel's solo stuff and Oasis' more obscure songs and I think they show the great talents of both the brothers. Don't get me wrong, I bloody love oasis and I'm in a band where we play a shitload of their songs. However, I do find Noel's treatment of Bonehead and Guisgy a bit harsh considering they were founding members. But I heard they're mates again now so water under the bridge eh?
@StrettyHS313
@StrettyHS313 8 лет назад
Joe Marshall who knows about Guigsy. the guy is a living mystery haha. Bonehead played with Liam couple years ago anyway.. Personally, I don't think Oasis could of lasted as long as they did with the same members. Would of got far too stale, especially after the rollercoaster of the Be Here Now era haha
@martycray495
@martycray495 7 лет назад
I think what Bonehead brought to the band was that HUGE wall of sound of guitar. It was present on their first three albums but disappeared as soon as Bonehead left and never really returned. He had a fucking massive sound and the perfect tone for the band and layed a great foundation for Noel to play lead over. No, neither Noel or Bonehead are among the greatest guitarists ever, but together they complimented eachother so well that it didn't matter. They still sounded amazing regardless.
@shredder9536
@shredder9536 5 лет назад
Well Noel was right. Macca was a songwriter for the beatles. Noel was the sole song writer for oasis at that time. Bonehead leaving wasn't the end of the world. When noel left it was different story, end of band

Remember reading a 1994 NME article, where Oasis where starting to find fame, where Liam & Bonehead where talking about a fan, stealing the door knocker from Boneheads front door in the middle of the night. All Bonehead could find was his girlfriends dressing gown, so it puts it on & chases the fan down the street with a baseball bat.... in his girlfriends dressing gown! Hahaha! Like Noel though.... Really mellowed with age!

Imagine being in a band. A great band. A band that was arguably one of the best in history. And all you had to do was play bar chords. You don't have to write any songs. You don't have to sing. You don't have to do backing vocals. You don't actually have to contribute whatsoever. You're essentially a full time session musician. Bonehead absolutely stole a living in that band.

The absolute truth is that Noel wasn’t friends with any of the other members when he joined the band, he had no qualms in getting rid of the drummer, which was really nasty given that McCarroll had been there from the start. He was also quite nasty about Guigsy and BH when they left, saying that it wasnt exactly George leaving the Beatles. Noel made the band a success but he also ripped the heart out of it in doing so.

I think with Standing on the Shoulder of Giants a lot of people didn't give it a decent listen, not saying you did, for all I know you've listened to it a 1000 times, I'd say Noel had a lot of pressure to keep coming up with great albums and just didn't get there with this album, but saying that Gas Panic, Where did it all go wrong, Go let it out, and Sunday Morning Call are great songs IMO

Oasis first two albums were solid. After that they nosedived. Tony and Bonehead left in good time. Noel soldiered on probably never realising that his lack of respect for the original line-up is what ruined it. A band is bigger than the sum of It's parts. Maybe Noel should have treated them with more respect. One things for sure Oasis were never as good once the original line-up was diminished.

Oasis were in their prime when it was bonehead and Guigsy giving them that 'wall of sound'.........after reading Tony McCarolls book and if it is true what he tells us in it then Noel was a complete c**t at times, I certainly went off Noel when I found out about what he'd done to 'The Real People', stealing certain bits of songs, taking the writing credits and cutting off contact from the Liverpool brothers who helped shape oasis's first and proper 8 track demo recordings...the plagiarism on 'Don't Go Away' and 'Rocking Chair' is not exactly subtle but like I said I wasn't around the band at that time so you never know what was actually true

Honestly, as much as some people miss bonehead and guigs, they weren't vital members of the band. They didn't contribute much to writing and never moved around on stage. Yea, the odd time they were funny but they barely even showed any personality. Plus, Gem and Andy were better writers and instrumentalists. Gotta face the facts.
@Matrixresin
@Matrixresin 10 лет назад
what a ridiculous comment. that's like saying Bez isn't vital to the Happy Mondays. If your in a band and doing your doing your bit YOU ARE VITAL, regardless how big or small the contribution is. If you've perfected the art of shacking a tambourine in a said band then your the man for that job in that band.
@kadaveri
@kadaveri 9 лет назад
They were part of the Oasis sound. Gem and Andy might have been technically more skilled musicians but you can't really distinguish them from any other competent session musicians. Bonehead had a simple but tight and hard-hitting style that's hard to replicate. Listen to the difference between any live version of Supersonic when the rhythm section kicks in as Liam sings ''I need to BE myself...''' in 1994 and then from 2000 onwards.
@justinmayhugh9332
@justinmayhugh9332 9 лет назад
So by the same criteria, Ringo Starr was not vital to The Beatles?
@GlamRacket
@GlamRacket 9 лет назад
Justin Mayhugh the point i'm making is that you could easily replace bonehead with any other rhythm guitarist it wouldn't cripple oasis. Same goes for guigs. You take away Liam or Noel (and i'm not trying to fanboy them) and the magic of oasis is gone. Ringo is vital to the beatles in the same way bonehead was to oasis, in the way of image and nostalgia. People remember how good oasis was and how smooth everything was during definitely maybe and morning glory and bonehead was part of the band at that time. So it's only normal that people would think bonehead was vital as a person, but he simply isn't as a musician, songwriter, or interesting live performer.
@GlamRacket
@GlamRacket 9 лет назад
kadaveri but you have to remember that with any rock band in their youth, the guitars will be louder and the intensity will be higher. That comes with youth. After the 90s, oasis matured a lot and their music didn't call for such loud rhythm sections. That coupled with the fact that when gem wasn't playing lead, he was turned way low and wasn't heard very much equal the reason for the absence of drive in the supersonic performances post 2000

People quit very successful bands at their peak because they are rich enough by then to do so. If he was as poor as he was when the band started, when they were recording in the South of France, he wouldn't have quit. The same applies to the bassist Guigsy. The interviewer here should have asked him if he is still rich, I'm sure the answer is yes, this is why he is content to not be a rock star anymore.

I think bad decisions, mainly drugs and constant fighting sucked the joy out of the band. Thats basically what Bonehead was stating above. Also I think Noel lost interest in writing fun rock tunes. Bonehead while no virtuoso did his bit while in the band although not sure how much of his guitar is actually on the records, didnt Noel play most of the stuff on DM? Anyway although he became a bit of a piss head towards the end his main role in the early days believe it or not was to be Liam's minder and try and keep him away from trouble, didnt always work though.
