Hey Mike great tip! I try to remember to use an old tack rag and clean off the hose before I start but forget to quite often. They make a clear plastic hose cover but I’ve never beeen a fan. I may have to give the tape thing a try. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!

It’s really just finding the sweet spot that works for the clear you are using. Too much is too much and too little is too little. The faster you go the less material is being applied so it takes tighter passes to get the necessary build. This allows you to sneak up on the correct amount of product. The slower you go, the more product is going on the panel so the further you have to move (less overlap) to avoid applying too much. The less the passes overlap, the higher the potential for a dry streak between them and the more precise each coat will need to be.

The sealer gun had 3P Products cup system on it. The base and clear guns had SATA RPS cups on them.

Sealer: SATA 5500 RP 1.4 @27 Base: SATA 4000 HVLP 1.3 @24 Clear: Iwata WS 400 Super Nova 1.4HD @30

Yes. PPG as well as most manufacturers have dozens of clears. Some are crystal clear and some have a slight color to them. I’ve noticed a slight yellow/amber tone to this clear and others but it has little effect on the color. Solid pastel colors like I’m putting on this truck will change when any clear is applied amber or not. These colors get darker as they dry and the clear seems to lighten them when first applied then they get darker as the clear cures but usually not as dark as they were dry without clear. Yes they mess with your head and are a pain to match in the field. Thanks for watching and great eye seeing that clear in the cup. 👍
