C10 Show Truck Project: Straightening The Hood 

Using the 2x4's to assist with hood removal. Genius!!!!

With some or many of these trucks built in a California assembly plant, now I am curious when they started dunking the vehicles thru a electrostatic primer tank. Cars were most likely first and trucks later. I watch the hoods rear support removed where the hinges bolts on. It was seriously rusted behind it. This scares me for the future as not the same nightmares as others. This is maybe strange but car/truck guys think of this. My plans are to rust-proof with a professional style sprayer kit I have using the waxy brown product. Then I will keep my finger crossed and sleep better. This is not a customer’s truck but mine. 20+ years from now perhaps one of my sons will own it. Hope they will understand what I tried to do for longevity. Maybe it’s me, but on the farm, nothing came easy! Thanks for the lesson. Aftermarket hoods do not come with letter holes for the sloped 67 hood. Stay safe and bless the work you do. The blue can method helps you stare and thing sometimes.

some guys would've said you need to buy a new hood BUT you said let's see if it can be fixed first. that thinking separates the wanna be's from the craftsman. quality first!

Dude. Holy crap man. You make the guys on TV look like amateurs. That hood didn't look like it was that bad in primer. That was a killer idea to take the brace off. I hope you can save it just from a wasted labour standpoint. Good luck!

I can tell your level of skill and expertise.. you really know what you are doing and have old school tactics... im glad you make these videos so you can show people.. this stuff takes time and it ain't cheap.... you do things the RIGHT WAY... I feel the pain, but includes multiple lumbar fusions that did not stop the burning when this 6’3” guy bends to focus eyes on part in vise, wash hands or walk to the mailbox. Oh well, that’s life. I got a GM approved stamping in a tailgate for my 67 C10. I tightens the trunnions to last, closed it and found the top right upper was sticking out 3/16”. Boy I was even more upset to see the gentle dent above the tailgate handle. Stripped clean and tail light out, it looked for damage. It was like new or better. Too much to slap hammer down. I guess I can use the large opening where the tail light goes, cut, add metal, remove spot welds, MIG weld to fit that upper 8 inches. Either way, it is not one of my favorite things! Martha Stewart in reverse! Question, are the hood letters going by, by? I kind of like them as everyone gets rid of this $50 set. No place for wax & bugs I guess. ASE Master Tech since 1978. 10:08 "shots fired shots fired" I'll be honest, finding motivation for something like this is hard to do. I'm not about to buy something new, I fix what I have, but this would be pretty hard for me. but it did look pretty bad so I dont know what I would have done.
