I kept thinking "just do it two-handed Lucky, you can let go of that latch now".... and after he finally gets the cap on the pen, he immediately lets go of the latch. :-)
Good video and reminder. I’ve heard good things about these Altman latches before and your install confirmed it and reminded me to order my own. Stopped the video and ordered from Triquemfg a set of the universal latches to try on my ‘29 Roadster door. Thanks for showing this.
I believe these latches have two steps versus one (as in the stock) so it’s as much for safety as it is for a replacement. Sometimes these old trucks go over a bump or around a corner and the door swings open unexpectedly. That won’t happen with the bear claw design.
excellent work with the sharpie, only a trained professional can put the cap back on with one hand. I've tried and my fingers got all messy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for the Video.....That was a great find, and a pretty easy install. I think it turned out great. To bad they (Altman) don't make a Striker Upgrade for the Square Bodies.... Mine can't be the only one that has cracks. Stay Healthy And Safe My Friend...Regards....
Lot of work imo for doors that line up and close already with just a little more force but that's just me. Still have all the love and respect in the world from me Lucky and enjoy your work
I have a 68 c10 and was always frustrated with door latch operation. The reason is I also have an original unrestored 1948 ford F1 with refrigerator doors that close like butter. Crusty rusty old 48 shuts with ease while my 68 shuts like a Honda that's been T boned.
Lucky's Garage Show I realized know why you said Thanks i didn't mean anything bad to ypu what I should of said with out ypu I wouldn't of know anything about this topic iam very grateful to you sorry for my Dumbass comment
So at 16 I worked at Lancaster Body and Frame.. I quickly became the "door guy" the owner didn't want to charge to adjust a door and body men were paid on commission so they didn't want to do it... it was 1981, Cadillac and GM cars had huge doors. Years later I worked for AAA towing, and was the "T-6a" King (keys locked in cars) because I knew doors so well.. I got Hella tips from happy mom's who locked their babies in the car at the mall... great memories... later I was recruited by a repo guy in the bay area because of my reputation of not taking longer than 10 seconds - I literally had them count to 10, and usually throwing them the keys.. but it was the magical 80's
Sweet ! Sooner or later I have to take the panels off my C5 doors , it's usually just a matter of tightening things up when the doors & windows get sloppy & rattly , don't know why I'd rather be hit with a 2x4 than take doors apart !
Lucky, my dude you knocked the spring clip off the window crank in a hurry with that putty knife, but have you ever tried the shop rag trick? An old head made a believer out of me when he whipped those clips in less than 5 seconds without looking. Too cool what the old guys know...
Hey lucky just an FYI Doorman products makes a nifty tool to pop off those pesky horseshoe spring clips on the back off the window and door handles they work great 2 second job!
Drain holes in the floor .. Help with Air-tight pushback. Run rubber grommets like you're drilling a hole to run wire through on the firewall. (drill out grommets if needed to insure airflow) The tube of the grommet will make splash up into your footwell nearly impossible. Drain holes there if you wash the floor or spill a 64oz drink... Double duty... Air and drainage.
Not being a critic but a air body saw would have made this easier I think as long as you use the right tooth count blade. I love my 3" cut off wheels but a body saw has so much more control. Anyways i dig the latch set up I had no idea someone made a pre fab kit.
Hey lucky how long did it take you to do those? You figured they would give you some rivets to do that to make clearance when you shut the door but that was perfect keep up the great videos brother keep rocking
