In this video I show how to remove the steering wheel and re-install a new steering wheel. STEERING WHEEL PULLER KIT : amzn.to/2tZ08Zc MY RYOBI IMPACT GUN : amzn.to/2u6iCap
anybody doing this please disconnect your battery first! then with the battery disconnected connect the positive and ground cables together for a few minutes before doing anything with any airbag component. this guy should update the description and pin a comment saying so before somebody sets theirs off. Even static electricity from your fingers can set off the airbag so be careful anytime you work with components in your airbag system. Then before you hook your battery up after you are done whatever repair you are doing put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position, that way if your airbag is going to go off from a faulty component or repair it will when you are out of the truck hooking up the battery, not when you are leaning across or sitting in the drivers seat to turn the key.
Thanks for the vid! My truck doesn't have cruise and I plan to add it, so I think I'll be taking the steering wheel off to replace the turn signal stalk.
You not need a steering wheel puller. Push your seats as far back as possible, grab a hold of both sides like you're driving for your driver's test, and swing the weight of your body side to side while pulling. Boom, you can wiggle it loose
@@jeffery1263 loosen the nut but don't remove it all the way, prevent future face smacks. These trucks are notoriously hard for removing the wheel, impressive that you got it off.
I have a 1998 GMC Sierra 2500 SL, and this is the only video I've seen that shows the style of clips it has for removing the airbag, I thought I was going crazy, the haynes manual was no help either. Thank you for making videos and putting that extra bit of info out there to help guys like me.
First and foremost; I second and third the comment about the battery disconnects! The very first thing you do when you go anyplace near an Air-Bag. I even pull the fuse first before I pull the cable off the battery(s). Yes, if your truck is like mine and has multiple batteries, you need to disconnect ALL OF THEM! You never know when one or more of them will have a cross connected circuit and feed 12Vdc back into the primary system. If your stereo system has an Amp, and battery of its own, and CAPS to hold the lows, and it was installed correctly, it will have a battery isolator between the stereos electrical system and the trucks electrical system. But if not, you will want to remove the link that ties the two systems together. All it takes is about 500 milliamps of current to fire that air bag. I knew a shop that a new fresh out of trade school mechanic (I use the term lightly) took an air bag out and had slid across the seat in the vehicle (Static electricity can be 20,000 volts and a few milliamps) and he popped the air bag loose grabbed the wire and it went off. He almost saw Jesus that day. 1/2" to the left and it would have taken his jugular out. 75 stitches in his face, and lost an eye. Air bags are nothing to mess with!
Yeaa thats all boguss. I pull air bags with the battery plugged in. Tech school told us stories but after 4 years i just send it. Nobody really does that lol. You should though but ehh.
cheyenne is base model tht truck just has the cheyenne apperence package which gives you the silverado grille and the trim on the body, gmcs are the same way with the sierra sl
The video is excellent and very informative, thank you very much! If I can offer one 10 bit of advice, I went editing your video. Please lower the background music because it's very loud and makes you hard to hear
can i buy the steering wheel you replaced? lol the one youre replacing looks brand new compared to mine, mines got chunks missing its so worn, trucks got over 250k on it and most of it is short trip driving so the steering wheel is shot
I know you did this video a while back but I was wondering where did you get your seat cover? I really like it and wouldn't mind having something like it in my truck.
It's not a seat cover it's just a Mexican blanket I bought at a gas station just cut little holes for the seat belts, works good.. you can find them at some gas stations
@@matthew1er Thank you for replying and I thought it might be a blanket but wasn't sure and I will see about getting one. I really like the look of it. Thanks again
Have a questions I have a 98 cheyenne also. 5.speed.been looking for shifter shafts or adapters to put a. Different shifter bar you. Got. A. Website where you got. You'res. At..
I think mine is discontinued because I can't find it anymore. I know Hurst makes one that I believe they still sell you have to check their website it comes with a bar a shift knob and shift linkage to make it have a shorter throw I think it's about 3 to 400 bucks for that setup
Anybody happen to know the difference here if you have a wheel with radio controls? Looking at potentially upgrading my Tahoe with an OEM wheel with radio controls
What size are the bolts that thread into the wheel frame? Why didn't you show the horn wire R&R? Then the reverse of the horn wire back through the wheel? You omitted a lot of useful info. I was also waiting for the rap video to start in the lot where you took your truck. Never did show anything about if the horn even worked. Watched the video hoping to see a straight forward removal. Next time, no music, and more prep. Have a fully charged battery and invest in a go-pro.
@@MichelLinschoten i just beat the steering wheel out from the back i never smacked the actual bolt, plus i doubt ill have to replace this steering wheel again
