No it's not about "cabin fever" it's about random unexplained make you cough blood and die infection. phelous.com / phelous Originally Released: August 19, 2009
I'd have to say that "Pancake Kid" was the best part of that one, and apparently, he wasn't even in the script. He was actually on location, acting like that, so Eli Roth threw him in.
+Lulzy Hunter It's still the best scene in the film. Also the kid wasn't really eating people on set. Apparently during casting of the film the kid decided to show some karate (or whatever) he had learned to Eli Roth and he just thought "what the fuck is this" and put it in the film.
Cabin Fever, oh I remember hearing about this movie. Its these kids go to a cabin in the woods and get infected with a disease that makes them paranoid, erratic, violent, schizophrenic. Like an extreme case of.... Cabin Fever! Oh wait, the movie is just kids go to a cabin and get leprosy or at least what Hollywood thinks leprosy is. That's a let down, why do I remember it differently?
That "cop" looks like he just got out of middle school. And it's nice to finally see where the "Looks like you guys are doing some pretty good partying, huh man?" line came from. I first heard it in Phelous' review of _Smiley_ and for the longest time, didn't even realise that it was from another movie.
It's almost as if the cabin fever condition is felt by the audience rather than the cast of the film. We're stuck with these characters who can't escape their situation, and unless we walk out or turn it off we have to witness the gore front and center which also makes you uncomfortable and more antsy. That's the effect this had on me at least.
Don't know if anyone's mentioned it, but the doctor/dog they ended up using was a failed police attack dog who was so vicious no one could appear on set with it. I just find that amusing since it shows such a lack of care for the actual human beings on set. In case Eli Roth just butchering concepts on screen wasn't enough for you to know he wants humanity to suffer.
Then how did they get the dog on set if it was that vicious, should it be somewhere contained, instead on a movie set, plus how is that dog acting anyway, if it was soooooooooooooo vicious, how come it did not bite the actor that was petting it infront of the actors, please tell me how is that possible.
@@kagemushashien8394 First off, that is what was reported, and since some states can be insane enough to allow that, it isn't out of the question. Second, if Eli didn't want humanity to suffer he wouldn't write Friend Meets World like he would a Pauley Shore character. Ooooh! Ass'd! Assmoded!
Gat720Dua Speaking as someone who has a gay uncle, AND someone who has nothing against the LGBT community, I can honestly say that Eli Roth is a stupid fuckin' prick as both a director and a writer.
***** I've met several people over 13, in fact 99 percent of the people I deal with are over 21. The only people I've heard talk that way (in real life) are kids because they think it's funny. Just like kids think saying fuck for no reason is funny.
Thing is older horror movie had both better characters AND actual plots. People trying to do throwback movies don't seem to get that at all. As for the jackass character I'm so glad he said that, I've been saying that for years. Especially when the entire cast is made up of jackass characters.
+Chris McWilliams No, they did not. Just think about any of the Friday the 13th movies. Characters in these type of movies used to be horrendously bad. What are those "older horror movies" your are refering to anyway? Movies like The Haunting? If you have only seen a few major classics you most likely expect too much. Eli Roth is a fan of exploitation genre, which is filled with bad acting and stupid characters and usually had very weak plot.
Mad Max and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are way too mainstream. I'm talking about films like The Last House on the Left, I Spit on Your Grave, Cannibal Ferox, The Wizard of Gore etc. I like those kind of movies and I give a credit to Roth paying homage to genres long dead. He's obviously making films he used to love when growing up (slasher, splatter, sexploitation, cannibal films...). I see nothing bad about that. Even though he isn't as talented as Tarantino, I still think there's an audience for these type of movies.
I would also add that the original "Last House On the Left" made the two young girls who were the victims very likable (if somewhat naive and trusting). Even her parents could be understood and their motives were clear. "I Spit on Your Grave" is the same thing. The VICTIM (in the case the young woman who got raped) was, before the rape/revenge part happened, was a perfectly normal and likable young woman. Now, I'm guess the poster was confused because these movies flip the dynamic a bit between victim and attacker in that both movies involve people getting revenge for the evil acts of others. You can't classify the killers in "Last House On the Left" or the rapists in "I Spit on Your Grave" as the victims in these movies. In these movies the victims are the people THEY attacked. As for "Friday the 13th" my recall of these movies is that, yeah, one or two of the victim characters were annoying and some maybe even bad people but I don't recall even the worse of them being as bad as characters in modern horror movies and it wasn't all of them. Even Shelly (the annoying prankster) would be a better character to spend time with than any of the modern horror movie characters. Then, there's the flip side, where modern movies try to make the killers sympathetic and make us root for them by giving them horrible backstories and telling us they're just abused and misunderstood and not evil.
2:23 And as we all know, there is nothing more "gay" than a guy and girl dating. Also, I can appreciate a movie with a character called "Sir-Chugs-a-lot"
the movie isnt even that gory besides the dead dog and eli roth's body, the goriest scene is the woman stabbing a dead pig's guts out and i guess the harmonica
Here's a list of gore movies that puts this movie to shame on a new level, City of the living dead Zombi 2 The beyond Nightmare beach Anthropophagus Canibal holocaust Texas chainsaw massacre The burning Evil dead 1&2 (Oh that fingernail scene hurt) And brain dead, or better yet go Watch "day of the dead" the original it's better then most of the movies I listed!
XD I'm sorry, but... I find the 'OHHH, FACED" thing hilarious It's just... SO ridiculous, I can't fucking stop laughing XD Also, is it just me, or would it be more original for a bunch of people going up to a cabin to experience cottage life, instead of party?
Linksbro I don't think their motivation for going helps or matters. The remake of "Resident Evil" made them going their for an intervention and it was still horrible.
Chris McWilliams ***** I think he means Evil Dead. I thought the remake was pretty decent, nowhere near as good as the original, but miles above the modern horror movie standard.
Linksbro I don't know, I didn't really care for the remake much, it seemed like it really missed something from the original. I am looking forward to the "Ash VS Evil Dead" series. :)
Chris McWilliams While it was missing some things from the original, it also had things that the original would've been even better if it had. Like when it started raining blood, that was amazing.
It's like Eli Roth tries to hard. A bunch of people go to a cabin... so like Evil Dead? That ass shot... so like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? And wtf is up with the pancake kid?
In the scene with the man in the bunny costume, I think the patient in the bed is the weird pancake kid. At lease that explains why the bunny had pancakes...
Being a little kid watching this movie - the scene where the protago falls into the water on the corpse really freaked me the fuck out, back then I had fears of getting diseases, so seeing this really disturbed me greatly.
it looks like eli roth was trying to reference the shining with the bunny suit guy or something similar seeing that shining actually had cabin fever elements in it and also night of the living dead....cause referencing other movies that are better than yours is ....such a good idea.
For like the last 17 years I’ve been trying to find a movie I saw a small snippet of as a kid where the guy yell I made it then gets blasted thank you so much
Oh Phelous come on! You know better than anyone else that it's NOT a guy in a bunny costume! It's actually...... BUGS BUNNY! Which makes COMPLETE sense and explains all the plot holes as well! It's GENIUS!
For me it's the first Anime not made before my birth or in fact before the 80's. And otherwise than these, the cat's haven't plagued the TV with endless re-runs for more than 40 years, so you gotta love em.
7:17 I just noticed the one frame before Sam the Eagle shows up with all the Muppets staring in wide-eyed open-mouthed terror and it made me shit my pants
Gotta love the formula that most of these horror films use, to make the protagonists as unlikeable as possible so as to make the audience root for the bad guys.
Holy crap I can't believe I just realized she was the yellow ranger from PR Lost Galaxy That's...some weird trivia? Dang, that one with nature thing didn't work out very well
2:30 I love that 'jackass guy', as one of his jackass things, _lights the fake campfire prop during the day-time_ even though that's a production thing and not something a real-life camp-out would have (or which most of the audience would be familiar with) And even though it shouldn't have, the 'Wanna go out?' 'Don't be gay' line got a laugh out of me. Because the only real-life situation in which I've heard people _say_ things like that is as an ironic joke between gay guys, who are _indeed_ gay (hence the joke in that situation).
not sure if i'll like these or not but can always use more new stuff (new to me) to watch and listen to. will give a few of your videos a shot and see how it goes.
This was a guilty pleasure for me back in the day… like, I knew it sucked so it made me laugh and every time I watched it was still surprising to see the craziness of this movie. Eventually I guess I moved on, got over it, stopped laughing and just understood it was lame movie… but it made me laugh for a while 🤣
really?! i like his body language and he is funny . i think he would be a blast to be around with his Frank Oz voice and his cool taste in cartoons and comics he is a dreamboat!
