Mine just broke and will be replacing the cable. When you push the cable into the drum does it have to go in a certain direction to the right or left of drum or will it only go in one direction or does it not matter?
The Milwaukee 48-53-2563 1/4" X 25' Drain Cleaning Cables replacement cable costs $50 when it was in stock at Amazon. It's a whole lot less hassle just to buy a new auger power tool for $70. If I find a replacement cable for cheap somewhere, I'll try this method to replaced the snapped auger cable that I have. Thanks.
I agree. It seems like a better deal to just buy a new machine. I decided to change my cable because I believe the cable that comes with the ryobi drain auger is junk. The tool it’s self is great. I snake a lot of drains the last thing I want is to snap a cable inside a drain.
@@handylandlord I think it might be worth buying a replacement snake to fix the tool if the placement snake was stronger and didn't break as easily as the original but I don't know how to identify or where to find a replacement snake that is better than the original snake.
P4002: I can't thank you enough for posting this. i have the P4002 and was able to replace the cable. The P4002 is build different and even though i didn't have a cable in the rotating part, i had to do a few extra steps. Thank you thank you!!!!! I almost forgot, i got the water flowing again!!
I buy the Milwaukee 1/4 drain cable from homedepot. It’s about $50 but it’s much better than the one that comes in the ryobi drain auger. amzn.to/3X97P72
Great video! Q for everyone, I have this unit and the plastic core has come through the center of the cable. Is that a common failure of the Ryobi cable? I'm still on the OEM cable.
Are all 3 bearings on front touching the cable when u pull up on black handle to engage? This video may help. If u see the parts maybe you could figure out what’s wrong. Ryobi P4001 Drain Auger Cable Replacement ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--rWMX0ZYwSc.html
I rented a drill motor powered auger at the Home Depot and it cleared my sink drain in 5 minutes after my Ryobi piece of junk P4001 auger snapped the skinny snake after fooling around trying to get it to works for a half hour.. Total cost for Home Depot two hour rental: $17. This thing is only good for a light duty clog.
I believe the cable that comes with Ryobi drain auger is junk. So far the cable is the only issue I have had. After changing with Milwaukee cable no issues. $17 bucks for rental sounds good tho.

I have this unit and the original cable kinks so easily. I’ve broken two of them. The first Home Depot exchanged but the second is out of warranty. I see ryobi is now selling complete drums loaded with auger for $50 but since a new tool is $70 at Home Depot that’s hardly cost effective. I will give this method a shot.
Drewdoestrucks that is the same issue I was facing. The Ryobi cable didn’t last long. Hopefully I will have better success with the Milwaukee one. Let us know how yours turns out. Thanks for watching.
