Fishbain fills in for a post-Super-Bowl-hangover Hoge as we welcome Antonio Morales, USC writer for The Athletic, to help us learn more about Caleb Williams - the player, the person, and the leader. #chicagobears #chicago #usc #nfldraft
@@thefiendreturns5309I do love the idea of getting Marvin Harrison along with Caleb Williams. But I almost love the idea more of Caleb at 1, Brock Bowers at 9, and trading Fields to Pittsburgh for their 1st round pick at 20. Bears get their Mahomes (Caleb Williams), then pair him with their Travis Kelce (Brock Bowers), and can use the 20th overall pick to trade back, collect a top 2nd round pick (plus an additional 3rd or 4th rounder), and still get to draft the TOP RANKED center in college football. That instantly fills 3 crucial needs on offense in 1 round of moves. Tyler Lockett from Seattle is a potential trade target for the Bears. DJ Moore & Tyler Lockett is a lethal 1-2 WR combo. Brock Bowers & Cole Kmet in 2 TE sets is also deadly.
Did you listen to anything the USC guy said?? WOW this is insane.. You hear everything the USC Athletic writer who is in favor of CW say he is a bad leader and he has a lot of issues with the media and your next comment is you draft him and Nabers?? WOW, this world is really crazy when people can have tunnel vision.
Wait so you guys said the best QBs make everyone better around them and don’t need star WRs… 15 minutes before that they were making excuses for Williams situation at USC and his bad situation lol. I thought he makes everyone better??🤣 keep fields, get a haul
I haven't heard anyone say the same but I think the big mistake Shanahan made was kicking the field goal in regulation. It was a long shot, and if he missed, the Chiefs would have had good field position. The biggest problem I have is he gave the ball back to Mahomes. The only way to beat him is not giving him the ball back.
Agree how JJ is going to surprise people. Still growing, can develop mechanics. But intangibles are through the roof, all he does is wins. That said he could probably benefit from sitting a year or when he gets through puberty, whichever comes first.
You would think after what Kevin Warren said you would think they would be keeping Fields, Kevin has been a big fan of Field’s, he went to Fields graduation at Ohio State, was a fan when Kevin was in the 4yrs in big-10, so Kevin Warren has always been a fan of Fields 🤔🤔🤔
@Red87star its extremely unlikely, esp him coming from the air raid system. The success rate of QBs drafted at #1 is already only 37%. Add in him not playing in a pro ready system, and the chances of success would be even lower.
I'm no fan of Bo Nix but he was a 2 year starter at Auburn before transferring...Jayden Daniels also started at Arizona St before transferring to LSU...
Great interview with Antonio. Poles and the scouts/FO have work to be doing in regards to the mental aspect away from the field on Williams.. If that checks out, and he is maturing and developing as a leader and that ticks the boxes, be hard to pass on him for Poles I would have thought. Such a massive offseason is about to kick off. FA is going to be important too with fleshing out the roster - not enough picks in this draft (currently) to do that.
You guys literally look like you are about to walk it the fuck back and it's precious. Also Roquan was a problem holding out year one 😂 I remember talking about it in August before his rookie year.
My opinion why you should believe that Fields will be here is the fact that they got rid of Getzy and all the offensive coaches. If they were felt fields was the problem they would have kept everyone else. If they were going with a new QB they would just start over with an all new staff. Reset with the QB. I believe, and time will tell if I am wrong, that by keeping Flus they are sticking with fields and addressing the issues that seem to holding Fields back.
Brady has been the GOAT in my opinion for quite some time. I’m close to thinking it’s now Mahomes. He’s just brilliant in every way. I hated him for the first 2 or 3 years of his career because we passed on him. I was just an immature, jealous fool. For the past 3 or 4 years, he’s been my favorite player in all of sport. Just unbelievable. So smart and so many things you can’t teach.
Brady is still the best I've ever seen. I will say Mahomes does things that Brady couldn't. Brady was just so great at reading defenses and executing situational football. The year he had Moss and they went undefeated until the superbowl is still the best offense I have ever seen. They are both unreal but I would still take Brady, it's close though. ✌️✝️
DJ Moore had a career year with JF1, as did Kmet. Also if elite QBs don’t need the supporting cast to win, then what’s Caleb’s excuse for the 2023 season?
DJ Moore has been balling with a bunch of no bodies his whole career so that's not saying much for fields , Caleb's excuse ? His numbers in a down year were 30 TDs 5 ints , if we go off college alone Caleb's numbers are better then fields and fields had 3 first round WRs and 1st -2nd round oline , what does Caleb have besides Rice at WR ? He's project as day 2or day 3 guy Caleb didn't have NFL talent around him , fields weaknesses in college still show up 3 years later in the nfl
@@erikrodriguez1609Couldn't have said it better myself. Don't waste your time with the Fields supporters, they all pick and choose which stats they want to make their arguement and ignore the ones that don't support their narrative. I just don't think Justins "flaws", for lack of a better word, are fixable and there are just too many of them imo. Love the person he is, just not the QB he is or is going to be. I do think he is going to have a long, decent NFL career if he can stay healthy, and I hope he does. 🐻⬇️ ✌️✝️
Makes me laugh that to hear Fishman’s concept that the Chicago media is so tough. I can’t think of one time the media made flus or Getsy or Williams or Fieids uncomfortable in the press room.
Too many red flags with this kid. I can't even imagine what he would do after an L let alone a divisional opponent loss for the 1st time. Plus his numbers are atrocious playing against top 25 teams. Even the sports writer the entire time didn't have his back on any of his "mental makeup" questions. (No pun intended on makeup 💅 ) His "We'll see how that goes" & "Yeah that's the big question" on multiple fronts and opportunities to say something definitive is no confidence booster. Wish him the best but can't wait for The Fleecing part 2 Directed by Ryan Poles! In theaters at Halas Hall this Spring! 📽
I'd love CW to be can't miss like so many wishful fans, but they're drastically overlooking these factors. ... As much as they overlook factors supporting JF1!!
@@Red87star And JF fans over look and blame anyone but fields , you can constantly show tape of staring at Wide open WRs and not throw the ball and they make excuses
People criticize Caleb for painting his nails. Like many, I think it’s a tad odd. However, if he can make us a perennial contender, I don’t care if he wears mini skirts everyday. Whatever floats his boat. We’re starving in Chicago. Please, please get it right, Mr. Poles. Bear down
I don't get the whole painting nails controversy. I had friends in high school let girls paint their nails, and guess what? They were always surrounded by women. It definitely opened up their dating pool, and this was between 2004-2007.
@@Vortex1988it does seem like a stupid thing to criticize. But this is a QB in the nfl not some guy who has a cool band. I think it’s fair for boomers to criticize something they’ve never seen from a #1 pick
I'm more concerned with him literally jumping up into the stands and crying to his momma after a loss. How is this not talked about every single time Caleb's name is brought up?
Jahns, Jahns, Jahns SMH he brought his offensive line because of a good PR move by his camp. IMO this young man is an emotional time bomb about to explode as soon as the press asks him why he made a decision on the field.
It’s funny how much all the excuses used for CW down in play this year are identical to what they say about JF1. Well it’s the line… coaching was questionable… he needs more help around him… he needs to hold onto the football better…. He needs to get rid of the ball on time…. Hmmm not taking the risk of setting our franchise back 4 more years.
I'll stand on this: Do not draft Caleb Williams. Either trade down for a haul or trade down a little and grab another QB you like. I just feel like there are red flags staring everyone in the face. He's comped to Mahomes, but Mahomes' main problems were mechanical, not mental. Most of it was people projecting the worry that what he did wouldn't work on the next level because the poor mechanics would catch up with him. With Williams, there are red flags off the field in how he handles pressure and the media and all that. He's got mechanics and mental issues on the field as well, in terms of playing in structure, getting rid of the ball, dealing with adversity, and protecting the ball. I'm not a Fields Stan, either. While I do think that there's more juice in the squeeze with him, possibly with a new OC, I acknowledge that he has issues with slow delivery and vision, which prevents him from being elite. I'm just not sold on CW as the next big thing, and it would be terrible if we wasted this #1 pick on one guy and didn't come away with anything but frustration.
Aside from some measurables, him and Justin are the same player. They make the same mistakes. I don't understand the draw to either of them. If anything, go with Drake Maye
Trade 1 pic to Washington take 2 pic try get haul if no good trades worth doing draft jalen Daniels trade up to get Marvin Harrison then Jackson powers
Very easy to pass up on CW he is a talented emotional train wreck. To your argument if Caleb Williams is an elite QB and his poor play is because his team is short of quality players, then he still should have won all his games because he is elite QB. Football is a team game not a QB game. Winning with an elite QB and not all the personnel is an outlier. Teams win championships!
Mahomes has Andy Reid as his play caller if you put him on another team he would be ok but not the same QB you see. Trying to put CW in the same tier as Mahomes is comparing apples to oranges. CW hasn’t played under center in 3 years doesn’t play in structure and has folded against top 5 talent. When he has to go against grown men that runs like cheetahs it will be difficult to adapt like it has been for every Qb that has been drafted. Fields played against NFL caliber players CW hasn’t. Not sure how you can call him generational
Josh Allen played against plumbers in college. Fields played against teams with multiple NFL players on their defense. Which one is better in the NFL? The level of competition doesn’t matter. Such a smooth brain way to evaluate talent. Look at the film and the background checks, not what helmet they wear, or who he plays against.
@@Eon320 he also passed for 600+ and 800+ yards in a single game something CW didn’t do that translates into NFL success. So getting blown out in a game means nothing.
@ducky2961 they definitely don't play the same style at all CW is a passer who can escape the pocket, throws with anticipation, can read a defense, and is not a cokehead like manziel. Manziel wasn't even regarded as the beat qb in his draft class
This guy is raising more red flags for me than he is clearing up. Sounds like he is a qb that it not good at running a play and being a pocket passer, but good when it falls apart. How was he different than Justin? Except he is not as fast or as big as Justin. Not going to do well with the press in Chicago. This guy is going to be a bust in Chicago! Trade the Pick! Trade it. He is not Maholmes and will not be Maholmes here! Trase the pick and we can build a better team for the next decade with the bulk of picks.
Chicago supporters Dennis Rodman for wearing, makeup, painting his nails and wearing a dress. But criticize Caleb for painting his nails. The irony 😂😂😂
The excuses for Caleb yall give for not coming through in games vs the weak PAC12 defenses, but for Justin vs top NFL defenses "a good QB would find a way to win" is becoming comical. At least pretend to give balanced observations.
I mean eventually Caleb won't get a pass. But its fair to say Fields has shown a 39 game sample size to have some criticisms of his play. For a good amount of those games he has shit weapons so he did get a pass for that. I think the question is, will CW be better than JF1 after 39 games. If the answer is yes then you draft him.
@@hvasquez73exactly. They gave fields 2 years of cushion without questions. Finally criticized him this season. It’s fair for Williams to get some time to learn the NFL.
@@anurajsingh They are gonna be in 4th place again in the division especially with a rookie qb. Defense will regress this year. Doubt they will lead the league in interceptions this year. Packers, lions,Vikings will all be better this year. The defense beat bad teams with horrible QB’s and had 3 historic meltdowns last year. He’s NOT a good head coach. If they are trying to upgrade at all these positions why not upgrade at head coach.
Fishbain what are you talking about you what QB has not had weapons? Mahomes had weapons the moment he stepped foot on the field. But all you can talk about is this year. That’s bologna
Fields is the opposite of clutch. He’s allergic to 4th qtr success. Caleb not going to the last place team is a massive difference, and what his dad wanted
First of all, there is no greater Stick With Fields proponent than Williams. If he's smart, when the Bears meet with him at the combine to "test his character," he'll show up Crying - with finernails And toenails painted. In re Williams' frightful night against Notre Dame (a poor First Half, really, and a one-off anomaly in his charmed career), a note of elucidation: At N.D. Williams had yet to abandon his dubious decision to play only from the pocket (even when none existed) and eschew running opportunistically this season - a preseason move made presumably with an eye toward his NFL future. Williams' preemptive moratorium on running was disconcerting - if not disappointing - to observant fans, but didn't seem to hurt SC's offense much in the early going (recall, Williams led the nation in almost every QB passing stat and total for much of this season's first half - and this while playing only two and a half quarters per game, as SC and its top-ranked offense racked up a string of routs scoring 53.2 points per contest). The new No-Run Williams kept rolling right on through the first two quarters at Colorado, when SC held a 20-point lead against its Week-5 foe at intermission. A day at the office, par for the course. Then, in an instant, the Wheels fell off. The Buffaloes were the first ones to crack the code - simply dropping 7 or 8 defenders to flood and choke off the secondary, a tactic which becomes feasible when it's known that a QB won't run. As SC's offense stalled for the first time all season, the Trojans' train-wreck of a defense did its thing as Colorado stormed back, forcing Williams - who a week earlier made his first fourth-quarter appearance since last winter's Cotton Bowl - to play the full game. The clock would eventually save the Trojans - who went scoreless in the final period - as SC scraped by to win 48-41. The Trojans next opponent, Arizona, now had a template - and indeed the Wilcats' "dollar" defense (eight men deep) neutralized SC's air game. It was at this point - six games into the schedule - that Williams finally realized he'd have to become his old self, at least for one game. Though his natural runner's instincts may have atrophied from long disuse, Williams, returning to form, put his team on his back and Found A Way with his legs - his OT rushing touchdown (No. 3 on the day for Williams) capping a comeback win, 43-41, for a still-unbeaten USC. It would stand as the last of Williams' many clutch showings - dating famously back to his prep days - not to be undermined by his team's defense (to be sure, William's' personal record in Crunch Time isn't spotless, but on balance tends markedly towards success). After the AU game, fans at last got confirmation that Superman indeed had voluntarily been shelving half of his superpowers, as Williams confounded the press with this remark, accompanied by an emabarrassed giggle and knowing glance toward Lincoln Riley: "I don't really like to run." (This from the man whose legs, chiefly, had carried him from high school higlight reels to the top of the Heisman podium.) SC's next adversary - and the one who would decisively cause Williams to rue his new mindset (and then more or less scrap it, shrewdly, for the season's remainder) - was waiting in South Bend, champing at the bit. (While SC's embattled O-line, coincidentally, awaited its final collapse.) Whichever team selects Williams (no doubt he's praying it's Not the Bears), it'd behoove them to steer the thoroughbred Talent back toward his natural style - telling him to Take Off when he sees green grass, permitting Superman access to his full complement of powers.
There is question about Fields physical throwing mechanics, Fishman. Still now going into year 4…Does he have a rocket arm? Yes. But his release is very very flawed. It’s long, and very robotic.
what if bears dont think williams is the best qb. what if they trade fields then trade the number 1 pick to washington and stock up on picks and still get a qb at 2
I still have a hard time believing that Fields is this great leader. People keep parroting that line, whether it's reporters or teammates, but his teammates aren't going to bash their QB regardless of whether he's a good leader or not, and reporters are just going to repeat what his teammates say. He's still their teammate, and they're going to give him respect publicly whether he deserves it or not. I'm sorry, but Fields is a really quiet dude and often comes off as awkward in social situations. Not to mention that Mooney had to tell him to amp the team up more during training camp because Fields is too inside his own head and doesn't know how to motivate people. What have we seen from Fields' character that he's this great leader? I don't believe it.
I feel exactly the same. People are so over the top in their praise of his leadership but where is the actual proof of this? It makes me think it’s an assumption that’s made because it’s uncomfortable calling his leadership into question, but I’ve seen more of Fields pouting on the sideline and expressing frustration than I’ve seen of him getting the team to lock in or willing them to wins. In fact, there’s basically no instance of the latter, so where is this narrative coming from? I don’t buy it either, right there with you.
Hard to take this and other Caleb lovestruck takes seriously when they ignore his fumbles or poo pah them away. 31 fumbles in 34 games, a rate that puts him at or near the top of the NFL. Mahomes and Purdy COMBINED had 11 fumbles in 34 games. Ignoring significant facts is not good journalism.
I'm getting pretty sick of the smug certainty of Chicago sports media personalities around Williams. Alleged "generational" college talents bust out or don't live up to expectations every single draft. Williams regressed his senior year, didn't respond to adversity well, not to mention he's undersized. NFL pass rushes will get to him physically and psychologically. He's not the next mahomes. He's the next Kyler Murray at best. Do not draft this guy.
Another comedic, disrespectful fodcast (not pod). Mahomes was a 3-star coming out of HS. He literally didn't get a reputable offer outside of Texas, so he signed with T-Tech. Nobody scouted Mahomes for the draft. The Chiefs GM found him and guess who Mahomes talked to first...Matt Nagy😂 Yeah the coach the Bears fired but kept Flus. Go check out that Mahomes vs Baker game...Oklahoma vs Texas Tech. Baker was a BALLER with a cannon of an arm. Fact is regardless of who they draft, nobody knows. Mahomes would NOT be 3x SB champion on the Bears because they aren't the Chiefs. He sat behind a back-to-back Pro Bowl QB in Alex Smith. Fields was thrown to the wolves because Nagy was forced to play him early. Bears fans are neurotic. And fyi, Burrow has only lost to Mahomes once. Both Fields and Caleb will do well but Mahomes is 1 of 1. Stop being clowns.
Josh Lucas has gone on record saying that if the Browns selected Mitch #1 (which he said was a 50/50 shot until 24 hours until the 2017 draft), then the Bears would have seriously considered drafting Mahomes. You're full of shit lmao
You’re right. The one time that era Browns did the right thing was the Mahomes draft. I know they would have thought about Mahomes and the front office knew they needed a qb, I have a hard time believing they would’ve passed on Miles Garrett if he would’ve dropped to 3. We’ll never know.
Ryan Poles was the director of college scouting for the Chiefs when drafted Mahomes. So if he likes Caleb's game and personality he knows what best of the best looks, sounds, and acts like. Ryan Poles is GM who is in charge of our football operation to make it a viable program for sustainable success and he comes from *drum* a decade with the Chiefs! Also, you claim no one scouted the 10th pick of the first round of the NFL draft? No, made up and completely wrong. You claim Matt Nagy the chiefs then OC was the first to ever talk to Mahomes? No, made up and completely wrong Then you randomly bring up Baker Mayfield's arm strength lol. Go touch grass my guy.
