Some feedback for the D episode - it would be nice to color code each player square by position, so we can see the distribution of position groups across the categories. Maybe just color a corner of the box or something? Love these episodes with Josh!

Thank you for standing up Jahns. There’s no way Braxton and Borom are in the same category especially given the fact that Lucas said he has no upside smh. That automatically says circumstances because I would be open to an upgrade by creating competition for this player

I love when they have josh Lucas on. I’m tired of the haters dogging him because of Mitch. Everyone misses and every team that didn’t draft Mahomes in the first 9 picks “missed”. We all miss in life I’m sure his intentions weren’t to set the Bears back. I love his insight into the front offices as a former scout.

I’m struck by how many times while going through the offensive roster the phrases “he’s ok”, “we can live with him for another year” “his ceiling is to be a role player” “this guy can’t do X very well” or “He’s only average” were used. This is the team we put around Justin Fields, and barring a massive change in thinking from the leadership of the organization, it’s who we plan to put around Caleb Williams. One day, the Bears are gonna find out that it’s not just QBs that win games. It’s the players around them that do. We keep trying to win a Super Bowl on a budget and it never gets us anywhere. Oh well.
@spaceghost8995
@spaceghost8995 6 месяцев назад
Every team grades players roughly the same way. Saying that "you can live with a player" does NOT mean you aren't going to keep drafting players to try to replace him. Great QBs lift the players around them also. Fields doesn't do that at all.

I'm confused- what does it say that the Chiefs would covet Mooney as a WR, but he is somehow not good enough for the 2024 Bears, who also have a glaring need at WR? Why didn't somebody bring that up in this conversation? Also, in the Lions podcast, Amon St Brown mentioned Mooney specifically as a dog who they were dumbfounded the Bears didn't use more. And DJ and EQ basically shrugged and said something equivalent to "you gotta ask the OC/coaches". I'm in the camp that Mooney's struggles were Getsy-based,and that his strengths were not a part of the game-planning and scheming as much as DJ. They would design a couple of plays for him then if the throw was off target or off time or something else, they would basically bench him. It was hard to watch.

rarely do qb's do as well as projected especially first 2 years, so even if Williams becomes elite i believe we gain more trading top pick and drafting MHJ or MN with top pick and then try to get Bowers at 9 or best lineman you can. much better team immediately keeping Fields. chances are Williams won't be better than Fields

Based on this exercise, it's definitely encouraging to find more than half of your starters fall into the good to top player category. However, it's a lack of quality and depth that is holding the offense back (from a roster construction perspective). I'm also a fan of these types of episodes b/c it gives us fans a broader view of the team and allows us to quickly see the gaps in the roster. This basically confirmed what I was already thinking about this offseason and what we need to address: C, WR2, TE-U, G and further WR depth (regardless of what happens at the QB position). Knowing that these are our offensive holes, how should we prioritize these? What do we address in the draft vs free agency? How does Waldron influence what Poles+Flus were already thinking and evaluating?
@Str1fe5
@Str1fe5 6 месяцев назад
Loved this episode. I do think the grades should be by position without pre-determining starter vs. back up. The evaluation should be amongst all players at the position, from all-pro to practice squad. That’s what the spots between average and move-on are for.

I do have a couple of questions about this rebuild. I'm some what conservative so I am concerned with the LT position. When Jone's was down with the neck injury the Bears were weaker than I could ever remember. Find a special RB that can turn on a dime and is stronger in the 4th quarter. Yes the other need is a quality Center that is just as good at Guard. Other areas of need is just what all the Mocks are displaying. These are the areas of developing talent, bing in all those speciality coaches is a major, the Bears haven't had. New territory for sure, find that special slot receiver. Insurances in certain positions will help you stay prepared for what is coming or not. Knowing you have the second option if needed. Fill both trenches with talent.

I love tevin. Bc of his durability, i would be super happy if bears could get someone like Cooper Beebe, especially if hes there in round 3. He can play both guard positions, he even played tackle earlier in his college career. He could be the swing guard in case either tevin or nate davis go down. Also if nate davis plays poorly, as his contract is easy to get rid of. To be honest id draft cooper with a plan of moving on from nate after the 2024 season anyways. Hoping the bears can get into the high 2nd round with a Fields trade and would honestly package one of our 2nd round picks in 2025 to get back into the 2nd or 3rd round this year. This years draft is way better than what next years will be. So many talented players in the 2nd, 3rd, even 4th round

A better exercise would actually be to ask how many guys on your team could actually start on the team that went to the Super Bowl, so just compare the Bears to the Niners and ask how many Bears would actually start on the San Francisco 49ers. well on offense our left tackle our quarterback are tight ended our number two wide receiver, and our running back sure as hell wouldn’t be able to start on the San Francisco 49ers that just shows you how behind the Bears are then you look at scheme and what scheme we run especially on defense we run an old outdated cover to, and you begin to realize just how far behind the Bears are to a Super Bowl type team

Can’t believe that Lucas basically said that the new DC opinion doesn’t matter because he’s not going to be the guy calling plays which is utterly ridiculous. I would hope that the Bears organization and coach Flus are not so arrogant that they would not value the opinion of the new DC who is coming from outside of the organization. Not only should opinion of someone who is joining the staff be taken but it should probably be highly regarded because there is no player relationship bias. Especially the players on the defensive line which is Eric Washington’s area of expertise. Hoke and Jahn should have had a follow up question there to help us understand why Lucas felt that way.

I am slowly coming around about Caleb. I’ve watched a lot of tape and the arm strength pops off the page and there’s a little bit of Cuttler in there. Maybe be a better aid overall than Cutler. I can see from all the activity around the last week or so that it has become a parent that the Brass, for the Bears have descended on the salesforce and all selling case Caleb to the fans. I heard you saying he’s generational, that he’s like Mahomes. All I can say to that is that if Justin goes somewhere else and excels, He better be. For your sakes. For your jobs sakes. like the man said, there are a lot of survivors in the NFL and they don’t do anybody any good!

Truth is JF n CW r similar, give n take, CW got quicker release n atheltic but JF is better runner n leader and has gd arm for long balls. But taking a new QB now with a new OC team will take even longer to adjust locker, also Bears still need so many other positions urgently more than a QB to be Superbowl contender, this is a current situational fact.
@fatesgates8393
@fatesgates8393 6 месяцев назад
It’s not as simple as you made it. CW is far better than JF1 especially considering how overpaid Fields will be after this season. JF1 struggles to survey his progressions, throw receivers open, process defenses, and he holds the ball too long.
@lancelotkim8273
@lancelotkim8273 6 месяцев назад
Are you CWs agent? U speak like he is already a Mahomes or something, he is def not a top tier NFL QB, will not do well in NFL least first few yrs espec under Bears QB system. QJF first few yrs had terrible OL n team so cant count against him, if anything he is growin from them. Right now there are 2 many other positions more urgently needed on Bears to be a SB contender more than QB, espec with TJ so injury prone n not reliable. Understand JF can't be paid top dollar yet, but also a waste to spend several haul of poss players 4 CW 1st draft, needed for so mny holes in all positions, that's all.
@fatesgates8393
@fatesgates8393 6 месяцев назад
@@lancelotkim8273 An offensive line and OC don’t make a QB throw interceptions or take unnecessary sacks. A QB makes the o line job easier because no line can block for more than 4 seconds consistently. D ends & tackles are too good. You got unrealistic expectations for a mediocre at best QB. Fields can’t see the field but you want on the job training & for him to have enough time in the pocket to read a book. Not how it works buddy. Baker Mayfield got sacked 40 times this season and still threw for 12 more touchdowns than Fields. Yeah Fields missed four games but his sack-int-TD ratio is far worse than any QB in the league. Mayfield was almost 3 to 1 TD- int ratio. Fields threw 16 TDs & 9 ints in only 370 pass attempts. Mayfield (who sees the field) had 200 more pass attempts than Fields and only one more interception. Fields took 44 sacks in 13 games. I owe Mayfield an apology because I wasn’t a fan of his coming out of college. But Fields play is so atrocious, that I looked at guys like Goff, Stafford, Mayfield, Herbert, Flacco… Most of these guys have made the playoffs with multiple teams, different o lines, coordinators, etc. I’m not saying CW is the guy for the Bears. I’m saying two things: he’s definitely better than Fields, and the Bears can choose one of four other QBs in the draft that will be the right fit (if not CW). Poles have several options. He can take CW #1, Odunze at #9, sign Mike Evans or Chris Jones to increase other needs, and trade Fields for a second rounder or keep information tight until teams get desperate and overpay for Fields.
@lancelotkim8273
@lancelotkim8273 6 месяцев назад
Our centers r old n can't snap the ball, Teven is injury prone and unreliable, OL crumbles n gives the QB only a sec or 2 to throw the ball which no QB can play well.. Darnell is the only gd rook OL who we Drafted.. All fairness Bucs have a much better OL n all around offense. Understand JF hasn't shown enough yet for mass extens, but still think he has potential with more teammates n 1 more yr. right now, we got so many holes both on offense n def, jus saying use it now to get haul in several positions than gettn CW, agree rookie qb is cost effective.

If they draft a QB at #1, do you get a receiver at #9 or a LT? Or best player available? Jones at LT is better than Tyler Scott at WR2. BUT - you can argue that LT is much harder to find. I'm torn

They couldn't hardly replace Leno because Pace kept giving away picks all the time. Bears had no ammo. 😂

The Bears are pretty awful on offense: - They need a QB that can pass - They need a big/tall/fast #2 - They need a slot WR - They need a fast TE - They need a Center and maybe a guard as well - They need a dual threat starting RB. - They need a "Lighting" back who is fast and can catch (tarik cohen type) Caleb should be our passing QB Odunze or frankin or some other rookie should be our big outside WR Xavier Worthy should be our slot maybe draft bowers to be our TE Sign Saquon to be our duel threat starting RB. maybe move velus to Lighting RB since he is not really a wide receiver

Kmet cant get open against man coverage. he is very good but not a top guy. his production is a product of us not having a #2 or slot or a RB that can catch. he's pretty much a #4

We need wide receivers and TEs. I would also draft linemen mid to late picks. This draft must address the offensive side of the ball. Free agency can fill defensive needs such as defensive tackle and safety. There are never great offensive players available in free agency that aren't 30-35 years old. That being said I would also sign Calvin Ridley if he were available. MHJ must be drafted by the Bears!!!!!
