As a native Texan my working theory about Houston is a giant space cow took a dump from high orbit and it landed in a Texas bayou and that is how Houston came to be. Almost like the NYC of Tx. Yes, Been stuck in Houston traffic jams way too often. One of the most memorable was heading I 10 east, traffic stopped for a bit and two almost naked females walking west on I 10 east right by the truck.

Coach Bob: I ride a Goldwing and I have a fixed cup holder that has these rubber tenticles that would keep the cup in place! Also I bought a large yeti cup knock off at walmart and when I would start out on my ride I would put ice and water in my cup. Plus I would glue insulated aluminum foil to the lid to help deflect some of the heat. I could go gas to gas stop and have ice cold water. Plus vic could have a fixed cup holder with the same cup to have ice cold water! Yes! On your next ride get the water jackets and the yeti cups/. Your wife will love you for it!
@CoachBob3
@CoachBob3 3 года назад
I definitely have to get a better cup holder. I appreciate the advice. Yeah the water jackets would have been a blessing. We really only struggled that day. And to tell the truth..They'd have been worth it for one day!!! It was smoking'. Thanks for watching and being a part of the channel.

We find it cooler to where our jackets and keep the sun off our arms. We also have cooling vests for super hot days. You just dunk them in water (sink) ring out the excess water, zip them on and your next hour or so is much better. They only cost about $40 each. Mine is made by Fly, wife's is a Hyperkewc by Techniche International/Climate control products. You could have them shipped to your kid's place and have them for your return trip if you want. Stay safe. Enjoy your videos.

Your cup holder should come with a foam insert kuzzie to hold bottles. I have the same one for years and it is perfect with the foam kuzzie. We hit those temps 109 for a few years in your same area. Get hyper Kewl wet vest. Will save your life and cool your core. Bring water bottle and a garbage bag. Put your vest in the bag and pour a bottle of water in it and let is soak for a few minutes.

We hit 106 today... 108 last week. Living in the western part of Texas and eastern New Mexico you get used to it but mid day is brutal for anyone. Unfortunately, it doesn't cool down till around midnight. And that is just high 80s. It is rough to go for a ride in this heat. Gotta start early and finish early. Glad you guys made it through the area. But you did notice the beautiful area with the scenic views. Thanks for the videos. Looking to get an RT Limited in a couple of years after all this unrest and financial system stabilizes. I know that day you went through. It was sooooo hot.

@@CoachBob3 My first duty station was Hurlburt Field, not far from you. We lived in a tiny little fishing village called Destin. It looks a little different now, 53 years later. Reagan would've fired me if I'd continued in ATC after the service. A couple thoughts on the Camelback. I don't have a backrest but don't think it would interfere with the bag. You can add ice and it'll stay cold for much of the ride. Working the tube up into the helmet can be a bit of a pain sometimes but it does work. Coach Vic is a trooper and you guys are an inspiration!

I'm a native Houstonian. I moved a bit west, so I could start from the country. I live around the 9 minute mark. When I ride that route, I use the old 90 highway that weaves in and out of I-10. As a rider, it's not the destination, but the ride getting there. I like to see the back country of places I visit.

RAM makes an XL version of their cupholder. I got one for my wife's Spyder, and it works great. One problem I had with it was that the rubber grippers that come with it will come off if you use the super glue that they provide. Wrong kind of glue! Use contact cement correctly, and they stay put. And it works way better with taller water bottles. I use the one you have on my Triumph Trophy, and it works ok holding my iced coffee on the way to work, though. Nice vid! Stay cool as possible!
