Hubby is a retired Submarine Sailor who bought a 2020 RT Limited a month ago. Then he went back 2 weeks ago and bought me one-I’m 59 and have never even riden a bicycle, let alone a motorcycle. I took the 2-day class last week and passed! We are going to the 3 Wheeler Rally in Deadwood, SD in July. Nice video! Thanks!

I got my first Spyder RTL last year at age 57. Never rode a motorcycle before. I didn't find the learning curve that hard because I didn't have the motorcycle experience. For me, it was getting used to be in the open, close to the road at high speed that was the most frightening. It took some time to get passed that, but its fine now and I enjoy the ride very much.

I AM that guy who has only driven a car & never a motorcycle or ATV of ANY kind ever until I purchased my Spyder RT limited last December 5th 2020. I road it home 133 miles from Tulsa to Yukon Oklahoma down Rt66. Learning as I went. So yeah, there is a guy (me lol) out there & it is very easy to pick up & learn. Great video again CB.

They are easy to ride, but this also leads to over confidence for new riders. The reasons for the nanny are partly because of this. It won't save you if you get overly aggressive. Also there is road skills that are needed to be learned to survive out there.

CoachBob - thanks so much for this video. I'm a guy who got a motorcycle license years ago - but NEVER rode one outside of a road course. I'm glad I have no muscle memory to unlearn, in that respect. With that being said, I am on my way to purchasing a 2023 Spyder RT Limited! Your son's experience on your Spyder gives me confidence that I can get out there and ride! First thing - I will be taking a two-day riding course for the Spyder next weekend! Once I have my own, it'll be practice, practice, practice! I've already picked some local rides to do that I've done as drives, so no surprises on the roads.

Coach Bob. I have ridden motorcycles for 40 years. I agree, I do miss not having the hand brake on the Spyder. I may have it added, not sure what the cost is. My last two motorcycles were Honda Goldwings, so I do miss the leaning!!! I had no issues when I was riding solo to scrape the pegs in the corners! For comfort the Spyder is the best I have ridden! Stability the Spyder is better! can’t wait for the riding season to start in Central New York! Keep the videos coming!

@ Daniel Niquette, same here never drove a bike before just a car, although I did ride on the back of a bike. My Can Am is my first bike. The hardest thing and scariest thing for me was the turns at higher speeds, needed a lot of practice on that. I am right handed and I found the left turns were the hardest. I Still come up on a mountain curve occasionally that takes me by surprise and is a little scary, but the more I ride the better I get.

I always give the same advice to all new riders. Lock your arm and push to steer, don't lean, relax or ride one handed until you do relax. Ignore any advice about laser alignment or pushing with legs squashing the tank and other unhelpful nonsense. Anyone who rode snowmobiles or ATV will catch on in minutes. Life time MC riders will have the hardest time as they can't understand how it turns without leaning. Once they learn to relax then life is good

But reaching into my 70's soon, and I feel it's a price to pay to keep the rider experience. My Yamaha's front brake lever, also controls the rear brake, because of ABS. I prefer it that way, not like the Goldwing.

I understand this is a very late comment. But I am considering a Can-Am because I have a degenerative spinal condition, and cannot hold a motorcycle up any more. I am hoping it will make it possible to ride one of these to get the feelings I had for the past 20 years touring on a bike. The trouble is that in the UK there is no "Try a Can-Am" scheme like in the USA. Thanks for the quick briefing before the ride, and I need to get out and try one. Thanks for sharing. BTW... I am a UK veteran from the Army.

I just watched this video, and I wanted to say that I am 40 years old, been on the back but have never driven anything besides a car or truck, today was my first time ever driving a CanAm spider and I was petrified, so much so that on a 2 hour ride I didn’t get over 25mph…I found that I was having issues riding the yellow line, going down hill I’m letting off the throttle and hitting the brakes all the way down, felt every dip in the road and slowed down to almost a creep going around curves…after I made it back to the house he jumped on it and was flying to show me that it has great handling and such, my question is how do i make sure I’m not over steering or riding the line…. Your son looked amazing and I don’t know that I will ever get that comfortable on it…any tips?

Enjoyed the video. I haven't riden a Spyder. My husband bought me a Freewheeler last year and I am not comfortable riding it because of the clutch lever and toe lifts for gear. Gives me wrist cramps. Im considering trading it for a spyder. But im not sure if it would be worth it. Im 72 trying to teach an old dog new tricks.

Hey Coach Bob - It’s Cocoa Jake. Well I received my 2021 Spyder F3-S Special Series on April 21st and have been enjoying my ride! In fact, I put 895 miles on it in jus under two weeks. I had to break it in for the first 600 miles per CAN AM’s recomendations but, after that I could open it up a little bit. I am very. Happy with my purchase. I just took it in for it’s first service yesterday. There are a few outstanding issues with the dealership. I am waiting on a couple backordered parts that have not come in yet. I have a question for you. I have an e-Pass transponder with suction cups and I was trying to decide where I could put it. Do you have one? If so, where do you mount it? My Spyder does not have a windshield so I was going to try attaching it to the inside of my front trunk. Do you know if the transponder will work through thick plastic like the trunk material? I don’t have any immediate plans to go on toll roads but, when I do, I don’t want to sit in long lines to pay with cash. I do have a little cowling around the instrument cluster but, there is very little room between the two so, I don’t think I can get the transponder between the two. This was a great video. It reminded me of my first ride. It does take a little practice to become comfortable. Your son looks like he may become a future Spyder owner. I know that look! It is the same one I had! I absolutely love my Spyder. I also love watching your videos. I hope we can meet up sometime for a ride!

I have SunPass and had this discussion with them earlier this week. I traveled without my transponder and was concerned about getting a fine. The representative recommended..if I have the transponder.. it be not behind anything metal....she also told me as long as the vehicle was on my list that it would be billed by plate. My brother in law who is a South Florida guy told me he does not even own a transponder anymore... he just keeps his account updated with his 6 vehicle and 3 trailer registration tags. I am not sure if E-Pass and SunPass are the same.. but that's what SunPass told me. Hope this helps.. Ride safe.

George the difficult thing for me at first was unlearning wanting to counter steer on a Spyder after a lifetime of riding two wheelers. After unlearning counter steering it was fairly easy to ride a Spyder and it is a lot of fun :)

@@CoachBob3 yes it is I bought my F3 Limited a year ago and drove it home with no pre ride. Now I rode 2 wheels before. The ride home was about 60 miles and after about 30 miles or so I had it down.

I took my wife's Spyder to town the other day. My thoughts, the steering is so quick that it makes it a little twitchy in the corners, my right hand got a little numb, leaning on the corners helps it's nothing like a normal trike or motorcycle but it is fun in it's own way. At 55 the rpm's are about 4000, is that normal? Also, the foot position is uncomfortable for me. I can't stretch my legs out. That is probably my biggest complaint and I'm surprised that more people don't point it out.
@CoachBob3
@CoachBob3 3 года назад
The really sensitive is completely normal. You develop “a touch for that”. It takes a little while. The rpm’s are high. On my ROTAX 1330 at 70 mph I am right at 4000 rpms when we are 2 up and fully loaded pulling the trailer. Thanks for watching.

Hey CoachBob, I'm a bloke coming up for my 50th in about a handful of years, and I'm considering getting a Spyder. I've always wanted a "freedom-ride" (eg. motorcycle) but due to risks, family, work et al it's been off the cards. Now my mid-life crisis is coming up and I would like one. I've never ridden a motorcycle (legally) and I was wondering if you think it would be a good fit for somebody like me?

I can truthfully say that’s everyone I’ve spoken with that was nervous about riding and drove my Spyder...went home with a smile. There is always risk ..due to other vehicle and obstacles..but .. I love riding the Spyder. I think you’d love it.
