just remember people, doing head/handstands in the wall will make your wall totally dirty, put some non-slipery socks to train it or use the garage or another wall that you don't mind being dirty xD
I got my headstand three years ago and it is fully the Most fun thing to do! I love playing around with my legs and stuff and just feel like a cool kid standing on my head 😎
I started working out because of back and shoulder pain and almost cured it. Then she comes around and introduces a whole new world of pain into my shoulders xD But it's fun, love it!
This video is really well made and takes care of some of the most important aspects of calisthenics : staying safe and having fun. I've been training for 2 years now doing mostly pull ups, push ups and dips, weighted or more advanced forms but I couldn't get myself to start learning the handstand or even do a proper headstand because I was afraid of hurting myself and didn't took the time to properly train it, you show some very simple ways to start from nothing and get better slowly while enjoying it and for that I thank you so much 👍
The chest-to-wall handstand, walking in and getting one's chest to the wall for alignment has been super helpful for me. I'm not upright and free of the wall for any bragable length of time yet, but I'm up, and holding and, dagnabbit, I'm getting there! It was/is a lockdown goal I've been working on since mid-March. Your attitude and your ability are really inspirational, and I'm getting there. Huge thanks. :)
@@TheArcoiris12 you can probably do the tripod headstand or clown pose. I just achieved my first headstand doing this but need to work on strengthening my arms and wrists so I can achieve my first handstand 🤸♀️
You make it look so effortless and easy lucy, but at the same time make me believe I could perform some of these moves, thanks for another great video 🤗🤗🤗
You are my favourite fitness RU-vidr, you provide us with great workouts without promoting restriction or doing things that are uncomfortable, I really love that
Lucy I have two follow up videos ideas for you: 1) warm up before trying new calisthenics poses 2) body weight or weighted exercises to build strength for this calisthenics poses 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
It's really good to find a beginner video that's less serious, I've been put off a little bit by some other videos but I will definitely be trying this one, thank you
Your positivity and radiance really encourages me to get back up even after falling flat on my face. Thanks for being you and the awesome explanations!!
Love this! You are so inspirational! For the first time in a looong time I took my workout outside. The new neighbours have been listening to me going "oh no, no, no, no!" followed by the sound of hard impact for about 20m now 😂
Could you do a video on what your pre weight loss diet was like compared to your weight loss diet.... and how you swapped unhealthy choices with almost identical healthier options for things you just could not give up or live without 💜🙏
Just discovered your channel and calisthenics recently, really enjoyed this video and your attitude of playing and having fun! Inspired me to give the bent arm crow poise a try and to my surprise, my little noddle arms were able to hold me up!!!
I love how this video checks off literally the exact tricks I learned during quarantine. Like. To a tee. But they are pretty fun though indeed. Nice variation ideas too
By Far the best Explainer / Tutorial So Far on the entire RU-vid! All other do tend to become intimidating after a point. Really Really Helpful thank You So much Lucy!
I have a cyst on my wrist which makes push-ups, handstands or anything where my wrist is bent impossible to do. I’ve had it removed but it keeps growing back. BUT I made it my fitness goal for 2021 to be able to do a pistol squat!
I’ve had a cyst like that as well, a ganglion cyst, and what I found out is I had a repetitive movement that was causing it. I was playing piano with a lot of tightness in my wrist, when I started relaxing my wrist and made more gentle circular movements my cyst went away on its own and hasn’t been back in 4 years. Maybe something to look into?
@@apostolicnutrition I have ganglion cysts on both wrists and removed them both. However, on my dominant hand it keeps coming back. I think it’s due to me using it all the time ie: writing. So I’m in the process of trying to become left hand dominant.
@@aileenandrea___ I have a ganglion cyst on my dominant hand too. I did not have surgery to remove the capsule from my wrist. My doctor took out the gel inside of it with a syringe. It was keep growing too. But then it's gone on its own. There were few things I changed in my life. Maybe it worked it out. First, I changed my computer seat and bought some sort of ergonomic gaming chair. Then I changed my mouse to an ergonomic mouse. Also, I start using wristbands during the training.
This is fantastic, exactly what I was looking for!! I dunno how I missed this video of yours months ago despite keeping an eye out. Really love your channel btw, makes calisthenics so accessible! 😊 Could you do a video on tips for how to avoid injuries please, or is it just part of the territory? I’ve no issue in trying the untried, but I got little ppl to look after so could do with avoiding any injuries that could be avoided.
Haha, just discovered this and realized I used to do the Pistol squat (w/o momentum) for fun as a "party" trick of sorts back when I was in my early teens, because it was something unique not everyone could do. Now that I'm interested in calisthenics but unfortunately cannot pursue it, cool to know what I did back then is a part of what I did not know even existed, let alone as a form of strength training. 🤘🏼
Thanks! Just beginning this journey and already having a lot of fun! I always looked at handstand as something impossible but now after just few days of trying I think of next step after I will be able to handstand My journey is not to lose weight but continue to stop smoking and till I continue sport it's OK, like I can do everything ..! Thank you I discover all this thanks to you!
I like how your videos are actually for beginners. I've seens other calisthenics for beginners videos where they start with "before you start you need to know how to do 10 clean pull ups"... I can't even do a push up dude ! I'm a beginner !!!
Great video, sending love from Russia! Can you please make a video about injuries. It seems like everyone who does any kind of sport gets injured sooner or later. And that's why it's scary to start doing sports...
How do you know when your strength level is enough to begin trying these? I’m a complete beginner with zero upper body strength and I really want to be able to eventually do these movements but I’m afraid to start trying them out too soon and fall and hurt myself.
You need to build your upper body strength! For me, I’ve started doing yoga. Yoga barely requires anything outside of a mat. I think it’s a great way to slowly build strength and flexibility using your own body weight without hurting yourself. Try it out!
Absolutely love these exercises! I’ve just managed to hold a crow pose for about 15 seconds but I would love to be able to one day do all of these! Thanks Lucy! Can’t wait to try these out! ❤️
Beautifully done and beatufully explained. I'm more close to an intermiediate calisthenics (so I can do all squats listed and a decent number of upper body exercises you've shown) but I have problems with balancing headstands without the wall and those hands going backwards in the full planche position. I listened to your tips and I'm gonna incorporate them for this harder exercises cause I feel they will help a lot. Beautifully done and explained once more.
Wow thank you on tips regarding pistol squat, that move is still very mysterious for me 😁😁😁 thank you, your videos are my favourite... very simple and authentic
First time I stumbled upon your channel, immediately got hooked by your approach, charisma and overall nature. First time I subscribed to a channel after some minutes of watching. Thank you.
I love the pistol squat variations I am trying to work on these at the moment and will give some of these a go. I keep trying handstands but I'm terrible so far lol. I can only do them walking up the wall but my hands are really far out and I can't see to walk them closer. I will keep practising x
I have been able to do that beginner arm balance for years. Yet I have yet to be able to work up to a handstand. I am going to get back into working on it now with these tips.
Awesome video, can't wait to try it! Two questions: 1) What brand of leggings are those? They look really comfy 2) what's the box you're using that seems to hold up your weight well even though it's soft?
As a beginner, are there any exercises with weight that could help to gain strength in between calisthenics session in order to help for the movements (for example, crow pose)?
Yes! This is a video that I would love for Lucy to do🙏🏻 since I do feel pretty weak in my arms and upper body and it seems that this are the muscle groups mostly needed for most of these poses!
Damn, I cannot if my life depended on it, bring my ellbows close enough together to put them beneath my hips. I have the strength to do some calisthenics, but in this case my body locks. Great video and awesome attitude towards sports. It really should be fun to experience your body and your limits :)
Thanks for the video, very informative, I loved it! As a person with very tight hips, I always get frustrated when trying pistol squats. With your tips I feel more confident I'm going to finally master them soon!
What a fantastic presentation, lots of great information with interesting variations and aspirational goals. This is the first video of yours I've seen and it's made a lasting impression. Thanks so much!
Keeping the core strong and tight is always difficult for me. If I concentrate on that it feels like I have stopped breathing and if I try proper breathing the core gets messed up. Any tips on how to improve that? (Note: The fat is mostly around the belly so it also kind of feels.. I don't know how to put it- awkward, as if I'm not pulling the belly inwards enough)
Yes! It is a really hard thing to learn and a lot of it comes down to consistent practice. Imagine someone was going to punch you in the stomach and you had to brace your core so it didn't hurt. Now try to breathe at the same time. That is what you want to do throughout every exercise. It is really hard to do because you have to consciously think about it but over time it becomes more second nature!
Like the other person commented on here, practicing your breathing while doing planks helps. It is a difficult exercise but you're not moving, so it'll help you concentrate on breathing. What I'll also suggest that I found to be effective and what is mentioned in countless workout articles and videos is breathing in from the nose and exhaling from the mouth. You'll feel your core fill up with oxygen this way and make it less likely for you to mess it up. Also prevents you from getting a headache after a workout, which happens when you're not breathing properly. Good luck! :D
@@samandy24 If you could help me with one thing. When I am doing a plank, my arms and elbows are the parts that hurt and because of them I can't hold the plank any longer. As far as I know it's a difficult exercise for the core and I am supposed to 'feel' my cores firing up. However I don't seem to have any problem with the core rather with my arms. Am I doing something wrong?
Watching just one video made me a subscriber! You inspire me to keep going to improve myself being a cancer survivor in time of pandemic. More videos please to get us started with calisthenics:) Btw where did you buy the stool?
There is an ilness Ankilosys Spondilitis (AS). It really helps some lower/upper back pain relief exercises. Those with AS also have chest pain and back pain when they try to take a full breath because of back vertebrae miss alignment alas some exercises for straighten the back. Anyway, thanks, this helps and the other videos. :)
this is such a good video!!! Pistol squats have been one of my main goals during quarantine and I was at a lost for how to progress them properly. Im too scared to try most of the handstand moves haha, but I think the way you present and talk about it just makes it seem like it wont be so bad even if you have 0 experience doing this. Hoping to get the courage to work on these skills soon haha
I’ve been doing calisthenics for many years. Pistol squats are not easy or for beginners. If you want to exercise one leg at a time, just get in a boxer stance (bladed stance) and squat down etc.

Hey, great inspiring video. Gotta try those arm balances. Only thing I miss is that you don't emphasize warming up/stretching the wrists, since especially arm balances and handstands seem pretty hard on them. Or did I miss that part? Anyway thank you for the great input :)
@@lucylismore 😭 This is the first time any fitness influencer ever replied to me tysm Means a lot I see you and I feel like I wanna be fit like her. You are very inspiring, thank you for helping so many people. ❤️
A headstand is all about Arm strength as well as far as yoga videos on the topic go. So really the weight isn't on the head but the arms. Though I am really not an expert! But I guess I just wanna say make sure you are not putting a strain on your body by entering poses in a way that might be dangerous for your body. If you feel I am overstepping here, I'd totally get that too, and just ignore me I guess 😅
Hi Lucy! Thank you so much for these videos! I just wanted to ask, are these specific exercises great to start with if you are trying to build strength and muscle?
I feel like most any gloves that fit you well would work. I’m kind if in love with my calluses though, they are proof of the hard work and time it took to make them.
