My ex wife and I kept our finances separate, and for good reason. She NEVER let me know how much debt she had. She also never even let me know what her credit score was. She wanted to buy a house and get more credit cards. Together. I was like “Hell nah!”, not until you comprehensively lay out your finances to me so I can see what’s happening. She wouldn’t do it so I divorced her after 4 years. She got nothing. I still don’t know how much debt she has but it’s a lot! We’ve been divorced for 12 years and she still hasn’t gotten that house because her credit and money management skills were so terrible. If I had stayed with her and been weak enough to give into her demands, she would have dragged me to hell along with her! I know she has a lot of student loan debt. Even though her parents paid for her tuition in cash, out of their pockets, she still took the student loans and was living it up. I was not going to help her pay back any of that! Not at all!

This situation almost happened to me with a chick that was my fiance. She was also horrible with money & always in debt. I told & showed her how to get out of the debt & she still fumbled her money & credit. She put herself in the hole so deep that when she told me about it, I couldn't & wouldn't help her & I got rid of her immediately after all of the lying. She was mad at me bcuz she said I abandoned her, but I wasn't paying off almost 20K of her debt that had nothing to do with me when she was spending all of this money so frivolously.
